WWYD - influencer suddenly stopped posting

Dotty1111 · 06/03/2023 14:38

Not really an AIBU but concerned an influencer with 50k followers on insta, an ebook etc hasn't posted since January. Aware there could be lots of reasons but clearly this was a business for them and its just stopped abruptly.

I've sent a message that hasn't been responded to. They do have an email address which looks like a personal address listed but don't want to hound them. Regularly think about them and wonder if they are OK!!!

WWYD?

There are loads of other similar influencers you could follow instead. The algorithm is probably throwing them up at you. Take your pick.

LIZS · 06/03/2023 15:02

Did they really exist? Seems way ott to message a random person.

Suzi888 · 06/03/2023 15:02

Have you watched FALL on Netflix?

SlashBeef · 06/03/2023 15:04

People stop posting for all sorts of reasons. There's a woman on tiktok who suddenly stopped posting and she's been arrested so that's why she's quiet.
Grace Victory obviously stopped posting when she was in a coma!
Some people stop to take a mental health break. Some people just get bored of doing it.
Could be anything but I'm sure their friends and family are supporting them with whatever it is. I would leave them alone.

Dixiechickonhols · 06/03/2023 15:07

50,000 is hobby level not a job. I’d assume they cba, got a new job or family stuff going on.
You’ve messaged them I wouldn’t do more.

Thelnebriati · 06/03/2023 15:08

Maybe her phone died and she forgot her login.

BusySittingDown · 06/03/2023 15:08

Don't worry, they'll be back in a few months with the "Where I've Been" tag.

Loads of influencers take breaks from SM.

Dixiechickonhols · 06/03/2023 15:16

It could be something as simple as weight gain so not posting as clothes don’t fit.

catfunk · 06/03/2023 15:21

Sorry op but this is a bit worrying, they've sucked you right in so you feel like a 'friend' but the reality is you're just one of thousands of followers who who all think they 'know' them. They wouldn't give you a second thought or even notice if you stopped following them, nor should they. Please don't message them, it's weird.

Maybe you should think about stepping away from social media.

SummerInSun · 06/03/2023 15:22

I'm with PP who think she's managed to get a real job and given it up.

ShakespearesBlister · 06/03/2023 15:26

I have to say that out of all the calamitous dilemmas I have experienced personally and seen on MN, one of them has never been that my favourite influencer has stopped posting. Can people really not put a frock and cardi on these days without the help of a style guru?

carriedout · 06/03/2023 15:31

Thelnebriati · 06/03/2023 15:08

Maybe her phone died and she forgot her login.

This would happen to me

GloomyDarkness · 06/03/2023 15:31

Online some people blur the line between friendships and business.

They often seem to be encourage by the platforms to do that as it raises the follower numbers as people feel they know them and get attached.

It doesn't sound like a job level of followers so maybe they've just moved on.

There was a indie author who I was reading her two series stopped writing just before both series would conclude - I did after a while and slipping release dates look round best I could see was her child had got ill and life busy and she'd given writing a shot had moderate low level success then moved on before ending the book series.

Dinosaurpoopy · 06/03/2023 15:34

My friend is an influencer who hasn't posted since new year, because she had a traumatic miscarriage and can only just function right now. So at most all I would do is drop a IM and say hope all is okay xx and leave it at that

Seen you've already messaged, so leave them alone

Christ alive.

Justalittlebitduckling · 06/03/2023 15:42

The thing with para-social relationships is
you feel like you know them, but they have 50,000 followers so it’s entirely one way. It’s sweet that you care, but home just leave it In sure you’ll find out at some point.

I don't have insta and I don't follow any influencers online so maybe I have this totally wrong.

I think what harm would a little message do? Maybe she is struggling with something and doesn't have people around her in real life, or people that notice anyway.

"Hi Instalady, I know you don't know me and I'm not trying to be intrusive, I noticed you haven't posted in a while. I just wanted to see if everything is ok?"

You never know, you might be the only one that asks.

If she doesn't respond leave it. Just my thoughts.

CrotchetyCrocheting · 06/03/2023 15:46

I had/have an instagram account with 45k followers and had a business attached. One day I just stopped posting, that was 2 years ago. I had just had enough of the demands that random followers put on me, the pressures of trying to keep up with the algorithm, it started off as a hobby and I used to love it but it just wasn't making me happy anymore so I walked away.

Cocobutt · 06/03/2023 15:47

The people who know her in RL will have raised concerns if they thought there were any.

A lot of people take a break from SM.

I can imagine being an influencer has a big impact on your MH.

Just to add I was never an 'influencer' and my account was about a hobby not me.

Zhougzhoug · 06/03/2023 15:51

Not going to be the 90000th person to tell you yikes back off but it's also worth mentioning that the current instagram algorithm is just a joyless pig to work with at the moment and loads of people are giving up. I do social media stuff for work and you have to be posting stories, reels and lives if you want your grid posts to get attention these days. It's a totally different platform to 5 years ago. Brands are also less generous with freebies. She's probably finding the time invested does not justify the returns (presumably, occasionally free clothes) anymore.

TheySeeMeRowling · 06/03/2023 15:51

It’s a job and they have decided to take a break or move on to a different career. What would you do if your travel agent wasn’t in the shop the last time you walked past, or the local Avon lady stopped knocking on your door to sell you a new lipstick?

MamOfFive · 06/03/2023 15:52

Real stalker vibes off this one.
