I’ve been here 15 years and just find it all so nasty and toxic a lot of the time. The witty responses have gradually been replaced by snidey bitchiness much of the time, honestly it’s so depressing. People get jumped on all the time for asking for support.

Some people can ignore things easily and others are not so fortunate. Just because it doesn't bother you doesn't make it so for everyone.

I've seen great things happen here and I've also seen vulnerable women taken down so cruelly that I'm sure the experience still plays on their minds to this day.

Yes, obviously it’s best to try and keep a balanced perspective on sm, and I find if I am irked by someone’s comment on a thread, it’s a sign that it’s time to step away for a few days and do something more pleasant instead!

However, I do think it’s disingenuous when people say “oh it’s just strangers commenting on the Internet” as you only need to look at AIBU on any day of the week to see how upset people can become about a thread and invested in their pov too. So it’s not all harmless stuff and we need to remember there are real people posting.

I agree with the OP that the tone has changed here but more so recently because of what happened with the sex topic. Most forums are a bit 'here be dragons'. It would help if the daily fail didn't have an entire mumsnet section.
