Are socks a rubbish present?

I love nice / new socks and so do my partner & kids!

I have bought my sons girlfriend earrings, a hair thing and some socks. Just thinking if others don’t share the love of socks this might be a dull present!

Are socks a rubbish present?

On the Christmas board, someone was asking for stocking fillers suggestions for teenagers. I suggested (among other things) socks and someone posted that they felt sorry for my kids on Christmas morning. My kids love fluffy socks, Christmas socks or slipper socks in their stocking.

Give her the socks along with the earrings and hair things. Sound like a good present.

Haha I get the message - these are boring socks. They are Merino and beautifully soft but maybe not fancy enough. They are getting ditched!

I'll have them OP Grin

My kids always buy me fancy socks and I love it. Everyday I start the day with a drawer full of happy memories. I'm pretty good at remembering who bought which socks and when.

IHaveaSetOfVeryParticularSkills · 03/03/2023 11:43

Good socks are always welcome here!

I love socks, and I love Celtic and Co, so I would adore those socks. They are a great make and worth the money (do you get their vouchers? They often send £15-£20 vouchers out with no minimum spend, which would make these a snip) But then I am 44.

My 17 year old likes fluffy cheapo ones and may not appreciate £28 merino ones, though!

GoodChat · 03/03/2023 11:09

Did you Google them to come to that price?

OP probably got them from TK Maxx Grin

Maybe she did. In which case, that’s a better use of the present budget.

I’ve never seen Celtic Co. stuff in TkMaxx.

Baldieheid · 03/03/2023 12:28

Socks are a great present, for me. I got a pack of Norwegian socks 2 Christmases ago and haven't had a single chilblains this winter cos they're toasty. Best present ever and I'd be delighted to be given more.

Theoldwoman · 03/03/2023 12:31

They wouldn’t be any use to me because I never wear socks but my young adult DC would love sucks, especially brand name ones.

zurala · 03/03/2023 13:14

I think socks are a crap gift unless you know the person would appreciate them. I wouldn't as I almost never wear socks. My friend who walks a lot loved the special pair I bought her. It's a case of knowing your audience.

Magenta82 · 03/03/2023 13:21

My DB would be delighted, he says if he won the lottery he would have a new pair of socks every day.
I quite like socks, but see them as more useful than exciting.

drpet49 · 03/03/2023 13:32

Yes they are a crap gift

crosstalk · 03/03/2023 13:38

Another socklover here as are DH and DC. My favourites come in boxes of three which helps me to keep them together. Love OP's grey socks.

nonevernotever · 03/03/2023 13:45

I love OPs socks too.

FourFour · 03/03/2023 13:45

Yes they are utterly crappy presents. I see them as basics so I don't think of them as gifts.

catfunk · 03/03/2023 13:59

Natural fabric in neutral colours I would love.
Pink polyester ones from primark for example would go straight in charity shop pile.

cravingtoblerone · 03/03/2023 14:42

Novelty socks are the worst present ever...

Decent quality, thoughtful socks can be appreciated. I got some Community Clothing socks as a gift recently and I was thrilled.

RGinaPhalange · 03/03/2023 14:49

I honestly love getting socks as a gift. Especially nice ones I wouldn’t buy myself.

I’d be very pleased with these.

blor · 03/03/2023 14:50

Love getting expensive socks

Murdoch1949 · 03/03/2023 16:12

Get my 20 yr old grandson a 5 pack of black socks and a 5 pack of black pants every birthday. He's probably got 50 of each now! I get him other things too, but that's a staple gift!

cassiatwenty · 03/03/2023 16:18

OptimusPrime31 · 03/03/2023 07:16

I like socks as presents. I only buy cheap white/ black ones for myself but other people will get me fancier ones as a present.

At least you know they'll be used rather than a random gift set that may never be opened

I will get you some fancy ones for your birthday if it makes you happy 😊

PicardsVictorianChild · 03/03/2023 16:25

Love, love, love to get a pair of posh socks as a gift.

ApolloandDaphne · 03/03/2023 16:29

My DDs would adore those socks. They are 25 and 30.

Starryskiesinthesky · 03/03/2023 17:02

They are from Celtic & Co online but using a £15 or £20 discount voucher.

Thanks for all the comments - seems there are sock lovers and sock haters!
