There’s quite a good frame by frame breakdown of the CCTV starting at about 3 mins of this YouTube video by a barrister.

They don't have any right to be there! Just because they choose to act illegally doesn't mean they acquire a right to act illegally.

And if the only path that I can use to get to the supermarket is full of these vehicles how do you suggest I do my shopping while avoiding being surprised and threatened by the illegal actions of others?

It. Doesn't. Matter.

Grey was not acting in fear or self defence or alarm or surprise. She acted in total aggression and it caused a woman to die.

Will you be barrelling at one of these people while swatting at them so they might fall into the road? If not, why not? Because that's even more illegal? Because you actually are scared? Because you're aware you might kill someone if you do?

I can see now why you're so adamant that Grey is innocent - you relate to her because you too don't like your local cyclists. It's irrelevant. It doesn't matter.

pointythings · 07/03/2023 19:38

@BrigitteBond given the width of the path at that point, the sensible thing would have been to stand back. Name calling optional. AG chose the path of aggression. Her choice, her consequences.

I've never claimed she's innocent. I'm not so sure now though, given that the judge think a pavement is a shared path and the most credible witness seems to think that a very-obviously moving bicycle was stationary.

She said she "may have unintentionally put" out her hand to protect herself. Ms Grey believed she had made light contact with Mrs Ward.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cambridgeshire-64747184

Ms Gray is the one that walked up to Mrs Ward.
She was in the middle of the pavement roaring.
It also seems she has form for this and was spoken to by the police.

This was not her first time being aggressive to cyclists.

Just try and avoid doing things that might kill someone is really all I can say

@BrigitteBond given the width of the path at that point, the sensible thing would have been to stand back. Name calling optional. AG chose the path of aggression. Her choice, her consequences.

The sensible thing would have been for the cyclist, who had no right to be there, to stop or dismount. Instead she tried to push past a woman with mobility problems.

pointythings · 07/03/2023 19:45

It's clear from the video that there was plenty of room for AG to move aside - she chose to be in the middle. All very deliberate.

MichelleScarn · 07/03/2023 19:46

@BrigitteBond if someone genuinely lacks capacity or understanding of their actions they will not be prosecuted even if they assault someone, I'm speaking as someone who has been assaulted at work by patients both in MH and care of elderly settings. Am sure other NHS and those in some education settings will have had this happen too. So stop trying to make out that any lack of capacity or LD would never have been taken into account. Its getting ridiculous, and frustrating especially when you know there are posters on this thread who knew Celia.

Well, you’re wrong. So good job you’re just shouting into the void of Mumsnet.

No. She didn't.

Why are you so anxious to libel the dead?

I'm wrong? You don't think that the sensible thing for the cyclist to have done would be to follow the Highway Code then? If she had then she'd still be alive.

She had every right to be there. Just stop with the victim blaming.

How would you feel if it was your family member who had been hit and killed by the car? Would you think it was unreasonable to send the person responsible to prison?

I’m not getting into it with you, but thankfully the jury came to the right conclusion. It’s very sad, mainly for the poor woman now dead. Actions have consequences.

And nor was Grey obliged to go at her, invading her space and assaulting her to the point where she fell into the road and died. That's why she's gone down for manslaughter.

Your victim blaming and libelling of the dead is becoming ridiculous. I am sorry you don't like the cyclists where you live but this horrible case isn't about them or you.

MolesEdgeworth · 07/03/2023 19:57

Something not to be overlooked from the sentencing comments.

It was the prosecution’s case, supported by CCTV and witness testimony, that AG struck or attempted to strike CR.

AG did not contest that, giving zero evidence to the contrary.

MissTrip82 · 07/03/2023 19:58

Surely you read the judgment? Did it explain why the court findings were different from your own?

You weren’t there, you weren’t in court, you haven’t seen the full cctv.

I really hope the victim’s family don’t happen upon this thread and your shameful posts.

You're vehemence is bordering on glee that a near-80 year old woman is dead, purely because she rode her bicycle on a pavement, that is now very clearly a shared-use path.

I was just about to say that had probably gone off on a random tangent with my last post as getting so frustrated but after that last victim blaming post? Bloody hell. You're absolutely on the wind up, and need to stop being sucked into your vitriol.

It makes no difference whether she had a right to be there or not.

Following the Highway Code doesn’t protect you from the aggressive actions of others. She would still be alive if AG hadn’t acted territorial over the pavement.

One only has to read your posts to see how territorial some people can feel over the pavement.
