to walk around bald?

Booblessbeauty · 02/03/2023 08:22

Is this socially acceptable for a woman?

I prefer when I am exercising to have my head bald, so for parkrun, etc I am already doing it

How about going to the shops, or getting on a bus, or going into a cafe with friends?

Is it OK to walk around totally bald do you think?

How would you view it? Would you do it?

Of course it bloomin is

but no way would I run in this weather bald headed without a hat on!!

Vegrocks · 02/03/2023 08:24

How would I “view” it?

I wouldn’t have any “view” on it tbh

Booblessbeauty · 02/03/2023 08:28

great! Off to the shops bald!

well, that's the thing really, I normally do have a turban.

But my skull is very tender at the moment, and hats and things, even pillows, are quite uncomfortable.

I would be more comfortable getting a bit cold

I am just a bit self conscious about doing this! Walking around in my local community bald for the first time - I am going to do it though

Why exactly wouldn't it? Honestly baffled

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 02/03/2023 08:39

I am bald at the moment (chemo) and if it were'nt so cold (-2) I'd walk around bald outside, too.
It is nobodies business.

Do it if you like but be prepared for the “poor cow” looks you will get as people will assume it’s cancer related (from someone who unfortunately knows “those looks”).

Xrays · 02/03/2023 08:51

I think it’s become a lot more socially acceptable for women to have shaved / bald heads now. (Not that that should matter anyway)! Go for it.

IwasToldThereWouldBeCake · 02/03/2023 08:55

Go for it...... Liberation!!!

NowAAT · 02/03/2023 08:59

OP, off course you can!

Davros · 02/03/2023 09:03

Look at Andi Oliver, she's beautiful

lovemelongtime · 02/03/2023 09:06

Just about to start chemo and am having the internal debate about this. My true self says fuck it and if people are shocked/upset/offended then that's their problem; but the insecure part of me doesn't want the attention. Guess I'll just see what I look like. You do you x

RudsyFarmer · 02/03/2023 09:09

I would assume cancer treatment too so I might have a slightly ‘sad for you’ look on my face if I walked past.

well, it is cancer related, but that is blatantly obvious with ot without the turban, as I have no eyebrows

Horses for courses but I always think Andi Oliver looks fantastic. I think the key is confidence.

Mermaidparades · 02/03/2023 09:11

I will be thinking of you this morning and sending you good vibes & self confidence! 💗

Booblessbeauty · 02/03/2023 09:12

I did it after chemo, tried a wig but it felt strange. Got the occasional odd look but then to be honest I sometimes used to have a second look at some of the hairstyles. Being bald isn't as odd of some of the hairstyles you see. Just wear a hat or scarf if it's cold.

OH still thought I was sexy bald (of at least he said he did).

Thank you - I feel great that I have done it once.

Next time I have to go out will be this afternoon, after schools finish, and that will be the real test, I get sneering and mockery from groups of school girls anyway, cos I walk strangely now, and wear the turban. Also, have limits in what clothes I can physically get on, and end up in strange combinations, sometimes.

Well done. Lesson in life, don't worry about what others think most have their own issues going on. People who hassle you over the way you look aren't worth the time.

glad to see someone else might be doing it too, when it's warmer - you are right, it's up to us

I am a bit worried I might get more attention too, but actually the head covering is always quite obviously covering up chemo, because you lose your eyebrows too, so you get attention anyway.

Unless you went the full wig and false eyebrow route, I suppose

@Booblessbeauty it’s appalling that after everything you’ve been through physically (never mind mentally and emotionally too)you have to endure negative reactions from others due to your appearance. You’ve got this 💗
