People stare at me … why ?

I noticed in the past but more so recently… when I’m out and about I’ll catch men looking directly at me and then they look away when we make eye contact.

on the train/ walking to or from work/ in the office

does this happen to others? I feel so uncomfortable:(

Do you look a bit like someone famous? And they're trying to figure out if you are them?

If you constantly look around at people you are going to attract their attention. You are looking at all these men so they are looking at you then looking away when you catch each other's eyes as it's awkward.

I'm either invisible, or they stare because I have a head like a robber's dog.

There are multiple reasons.

For me:

I'm a pretty 27-year-old with a baby face. Men like to look at that.

I have severe eczema so when I have a flare up I'm a diseased, rasht, dry 27-year-old. Men and women slaying try and stare at that.

I have a loud northern accent. People stare in annoyance at that.

I stare at people sometimes vacantly. They generally stare back to that.

I certainly don't harp on about it, but this is the topic of the thread. It's not great having men following you home, or harassing you on public transport, or trying to grab you, or start begging you to go out with them. And I've had all those things many times. It's actually really scary.

The way some other women treat you is just horrible too and you have to deal with that as well as being harassed by men.

Being good looking isn't all it's cracked up to be.

You're clearly looking at them yourself to notice, so what does that say about you?

I catch people staring at me too, especially men, even though I'm in my mid 50s. I think it's because I have my own style, so maybe sometimes they're thinking WTF!

Sometimes I catch envious looks from women but not about me exactly, more like if I have a nice hat or bag. I probably notice quirky style in people too. Yesterday I caught myself gawking at a man not because I fancied him but his shoes were lovely!

I hate eye contact with the same shop workers in supermarkets. I wanna be incognito all the time.

I suffer from low self esteem and anxiety- have done for years.

so when people look I automatically think it’s because something is wrong.

yes I’m ok to look at but I don’t think I’m anything so special that people would stare or take second glances. And this happens to me often.
