People stare at me … why ?

I noticed in the past but more so recently… when I’m out and about I’ll catch men looking directly at me and then they look away when we make eye contact.

on the train/ walking to or from work/ in the office

does this happen to others? I feel so uncomfortable:(

I used to feel this way when I was younger, then at about age 40 it stopped (not suddenly- it became less frequent before that). It's because I used to be pretty, and I'm not anymore (at least, not conventionally). I don't really mind either way. But it's probably because you're good looking. I understand- it used to freak me out a bit also because I didn't have good self esteem and didn't actually consider myself pretty - It's only now looking back I realise.

threeplusmum · 01/03/2023 22:41

As long as you've got a face, people will look.

Justanotherlurker · 01/03/2023 22:47

You are obviously not aware of the women who also do this, lockdown has hyper played a part about now being out in public, it could be a huge range of issues foremost is vacant stare, but admiring/horrified what you are wearing, the narcissist approach is automatically thinking they where looking directly at you and somehow judging you whilst you where also obviously people watching...

davegrohll · 01/03/2023 22:29

Same 😆

Me too, but I’m pig ugly 🤣

AngelinaFibres · 01/03/2023 22:50

I am the world's only 5'4" International supermodel ( early retirement division) so it happens to me aaaallll the time.

Frenulumetta · 01/03/2023 22:50

How do you know they are staring at you unless you are staring at them?

Tourmalines · 01/03/2023 22:55

That’s a pretty naive and silly question. You are either so ugly to the extent they havnt seen , or pretty , that they are admiring. Surely anyone would beable to figure that out . Are you fishing for compliments ?

Blinky21 · 01/03/2023 22:57

I have days where this happens too, I think everyone is looking at me, I get home and ask if there is something on my face or in my hair

reddwarfgeek · 01/03/2023 22:58

Some people are just the naturally stare-y type. It can be unnerving 🤣 Have you ever noticed sometimes people stare into space and it feels they are looking at you for an awkwardly long time?

Either that or they fancy you.

Bauhausstolemyhair · 01/03/2023 23:04

I am a goth living in a small town. You get used to it. I don't believe that anyone is ugly. We're all ever so slightly different, it would be awful if we all looked the same. I'm sure they don't stare.

knittingaddict · 01/03/2023 23:31

Very, very disappointed that op hasn't been back. 😂

WetBandits · 01/03/2023 23:33

Samantha Brick, is that you?

Tessisme · 01/03/2023 23:54

😁

EllieM27 · 02/03/2023 00:18

Have you got pincers under your jaw like a crab perhaps?

TortolaParadise · 02/03/2023 00:39

Yes this happens to me a lot, usually at work. Can only assume they like what they see.

LadyVictoriaSponge · 02/03/2023 00:46

Gosh, men staring at you, I can’t possibly think of a reason, it’s a real head scratcher OP.

AffIt · 02/03/2023 00:48

Happens to me all the time.

But then I am a dragon and live in Glasgow.

Should never have left Cardiff.

MichelleScarn · 02/03/2023 00:50

Do you have a married male boss at work too who just can't take his eyes off of you?....

MissingMoominMamma · 02/03/2023 00:56

Actually, I’ve noticed this recently too. I’m in my late 50s and pretty unremarkable, so it’s freaked me out a bit!

Goodread1 · 02/03/2023 01:05

It's either you are drop dead gorgeous, acctractive that some men can't help noticing it,

Or
You are the opposite

Which do you think it is Op?

And more importantly why do you place so much value on what they think about you Op then ?

Does it matter and why does it matter so much?

Offleyhoo · 02/03/2023 01:06

I know someone who is convinced men stare at her / follow her so deliberately wears huge baggy ensembles to deter them. I'm pretty sure there's nothing even slightly unusual about her either way.

JFDIYOLO · 02/03/2023 01:08

Horns.

Ilovehamandtoast · 02/03/2023 01:10

Wave enthusiastically and if they don't look away, say hiyaaaaaaaaa.

Hate people staring.

The irony is you probably do it too without realising - I know I do!

Whatacouk · 02/03/2023 01:18

Maybe you look unique or are wearing unique clothes?

I'm mixed, very pale and have an afro and people sometimes stare out of curiosity, just because they're not used to that.
