Sanitary pad ads on tv

mamabear715 · 28/02/2023 15:57

Firstly - if it's been posted before, I apologise, as there's always one snippy person who will point it out to me.. (rolls eyes)
I just think they are horrible.. bad enough in the past, but now, we have to have splashes of blood on them? REALLY? Is it just me?

Actually, the NHS ads too.. why are they (presumably) spending millions advertising? (The latest one is the guy going to do his poo test.) These tests are sent out to - I think - over 60's in England anyway. Younger in Scotland, as I recall. Surely anyone younger knows by now, blood in poo, (try and) make a GP appointment?

Maybe it's just me being grumpy.. ? Every time I see either advert, I get the rage!

OP posts:
Botw1 · 28/02/2023 15:58

Why would they annoy you?!

vodkaredbullgirl · 28/02/2023 15:59

It's you being grumpy.

Wonderfulbutwornout · 28/02/2023 15:59

To raise awareness and make people feel less embarrassed.

Ourshoddyhouse · 28/02/2023 15:59

Don't watch live TV and skip all the ads🤣

SgtBilko · 28/02/2023 16:01

The tests they send out test for occult blood i.e. blood that you can't see. I think public health campaigns are good and save lives.

TeenDivided · 28/02/2023 16:01

It's you being grumpy.

I have found it hard at times to work out which pads are for periods and which for bladder leakage. They often don't make it properly clear on packaging.

PinkFrogss · 28/02/2023 16:02

I doubt it’s real blood OP, and makes more sense than it being blue like it was before.

I imagine the NHS have calculated the expense of advertising, which will prompt people to go to the doctor and get help earlier, is cheaper than having less people go and then having to have more expensive treatment at a later stage.

BollocksToThem · 28/02/2023 16:03

The 'period ' drama one annoys me and the one for incontinence pants , not sure why

GPFavo · 28/02/2023 16:04

The bowel cancer test they send out is:
a) for over 50s, not over 60s
b) for blood that isn’t visible
Clearly you need to watch the advert a few more times.

Personally, I think every single person should do a FIT for bowel cancer. They cost £10 privately and could save your life. It’s absolutely untrue that only older people get bowel cancer. Dame Deborah James was stage 4 by 33 and I was stage 2 by 24.

FuckeNell · 28/02/2023 16:05

It's better than blue!

Vegalam · 28/02/2023 16:07

I think it's worse when they used blue liquid on sanitary pad adverts. It's not particualty grafic and anything to normalise periods is a good thing!

Also feel the same about poop advert...you're not seeing the fella scoop his poop and although the kits do get delivered I guess they're easy to ignore, no harm in an additional reminder, and preventative health measures saves the NHS money in the long run

Lkydfju · 28/02/2023 16:09

To show it’s normal…..and not something that needs to be hidden away and found embarrassing. And of course they need to advertise because there’s lots of products and they want you to choose theirs.

Witsend101 · 28/02/2023 16:10

I don't like the sanitary ads either. Completely unnecessary. The bowel ads are different as they are trying to raise awareness

Randomhead · 28/02/2023 16:11

Loads of people don’t do the poo tests because they are embarrassed. Normalising them in this way helps to break that barrier and saves lives.

I couldn’t give a fuck if it makes you grumpy if the result is people don’t die.

jannier · 28/02/2023 16:12

If everybody knew they wouldn't waste money on adds.....it's not real blood...do you object to films showing injuries and blood or is it just blood on pads that gets you?

Rellywobble · 28/02/2023 16:12

I think they are unnecessary, if a female doesn’t know STs exist then they are hardly going to have a TV …also the incontinence pads for women!

Botw1 · 28/02/2023 16:13

People know food exists

Should we ban food advertising?

Ooh I didn’t know that was the term - I know it’s inappropriate but it made me giggle as I instantly started imagining quite a Shakespearean scenario!

InsertMoniker · 28/02/2023 16:17

You can't always see blood in poo. Sometimes it's not red, it's brown. Depends where it comes from.

Imafirework · 28/02/2023 16:19

I hate the viagra and love honey ads. Not what you want to be watching when your teenage kids are in the room!!!

WrongSideOfLife · 28/02/2023 16:20

blood in poo, (try and) make a GP appointment

Blood isn’t always visible, it’s to encourage people to do the FIT test.
I’m with you on the sanitary towels ads, I had always thought the blue was ridiculous but the red actually makes me feel a bit ick.

PinkFrogss · 28/02/2023 16:24

It’s not to educate people on the existence of SPs, it’s to advertise their particular brand

TaunterOfWomenInGeneralSaysSayonarastu · 28/02/2023 16:26

I just think they are horrible.. bad enough in the past, but now, we have to have splashes of blood on them? REALLY? Is it just me?
I'd like to hope so, but unfortunately not. Loads of people believe there is something nasty or shameful about menstruation, & women should pretend it doesn't exist.

Actually, the NHS ads too.. why are they (presumably) spending millions advertising? (The latest one is the guy going to do his poo test.) The poo tests are preventative.
Waiting until you have blood in your stool is daft if you can do a simple at-home test to get the all-clear.
The probability of bowel cancer increases with age, hence the over 60's getting the tests posted to their homes. I'm not entirely sure what you are taking issue with here, & hope when you are 60 you are grateful for this free & simple test.

Maybe it's just me being grumpy.. ? Every time I see either advert, I get the rage!
You're a bit weird about ordinary human functions.
Why does people having access to sanitary care & bowel testing annoy you FFS?

SolitudeNotLoneliness · 28/02/2023 16:26

Anything that raises awareness and saves lives is fine with me.

I'm chuffed sanitary adverts show red blood rather than wierd blue liquid.. If in tjis day and age people can't get their head round what sanitary products are for then that's a concern in itself.

Normalise periods instead of shying away from them.

stripedsox · 28/02/2023 16:26

I've done the bowel test and received a clear for now, glad I've done it. I also have mammograms and cervical smears. Don't want to die because I was shy to do these things. At least it can give an early warning.
If it's offered go for it!
