Salad with Carbonara

Tonight we had Carbonara from Gousto and they send ingredients for a side salad. Who the fuck has salad with carbonara? My DH wasn't as outraged as I am 😂

YABU - salad with Carbonara is normal
YANBU - it's weird!!

Well every day is a school day. I love hot and cold together and would have it on the same plate. Didn't realise I was breaking rules.

Ragwort · 27/02/2023 22:38

How else do you get a balanced meal?

Shock ... I quite frequently eat an unbalanced meal Grin ... maybe have a few chocolates afterwards

IHaveaSetOfVeryParticularSkills · 27/02/2023 22:59

But was it a masive salad? 😁

Not for me. At all. Even the thought run cold through my spine. And I love salads.

Starter, yes, with little break, then the pasta.

GlitteryUnicornSparkles · 27/02/2023 23:00

YANBU

spuddel · 27/02/2023 23:01

I always have a salad with pasta, in a separate bowl.

Nellodee · 27/02/2023 23:04

Mil serves salad with her roast dinners. Now that’s weird.

FabFitFifties · 27/02/2023 23:05

I like salad with all pasta meals. Same plate but not mixed obviously. Some salad and some pasta on the fork.

🤣

On a level with people who eat a Sunday roast outside a pub in July.

RampantIvy · 27/02/2023 23:07

The only thing with carbonara is garlic bread. Anything else is an insult to taste buds

I would find that too stodgy.

I like a spinach/rocket/maybe parsley salad with the pasta-based-meal served in top. So you get the salad in various stages of 'wilted'.

Salad with - not before or after - roast chicken is traditional French country fsre, and delicious. Elizabeth David has written eloquently about this.

Brrrrrrrrrrrr · 27/02/2023 23:12

This is very rough so don’t judge but I do enjoy lasagne, French fries and coleslaw. Absolutely glorious.

Presumably not with Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes, gravy, and stuffing though?

Hot meat with salad is always lovely. Iceberg lettuce with a full English roast dinner is a bit odd though.

poetryandwine · 27/02/2023 23:23

True, @BrigitteBond . Iceberg lettuce is not the French idea of salad and I daresay it wasn’t Elizabeth David’s either. ED also preferred the French method of serving a couple of simple, lighter side dishes with a roast rather than the British method of ‘all the trimmings’.

Gymnopedie · 27/02/2023 23:58

I love salad, even if it's only yer basic lettuce, cucumber and tomato. I'll eat it (on the same plate) with anything up to and including beef casserole. The only things I draw the line at are a roast dinner, and fish and chips if the fish is battered.
Salad and carbonara? Bring it on.

Thepossibility · 28/02/2023 00:19

I love a crunchy tangy salad with any pasta. It's all a bit samey without it. I'm usually too lazy to make it though.

Rosio · 28/02/2023 00:35

I never had salad, I hate tomatoes, peppers and cucumber and most lettuce so I just think what's the point

skips22 · 28/02/2023 01:41

Oooh quite a mixed bag (of salad ha!)

Garlic bread is definitely a good side in my opinion, however carbs could be the reason I can't shift this baby weight so maybe I should be having just the salad 😂

Although I wouldn't have it, salad with lasagne seems normal but there is just something about having it with carbonara that feels all sorts of wrong!

By the way, I did actually eat it as I know how lucky I am to be the proud owner of tomatoes in this mad world 😂 I just didn't like it...

Before everything became so massively expensive (I am in Australia but I think the UK has had a huge rise in the cost of living too) I used to like having a portion of carbonara with steak and steamed vegetables. Yum.

I like salad so I would like that too but probably in the warmer months.

MrsClatterbuck · 28/02/2023 03:17

I love salad and coleslaw with lasagne but wouldn't dream of it with any other pasta dish including Carbonara

doadeer · 28/02/2023 03:31

I love a side salad with carbonara, it's so rich you need it. But definately on a side plate

poppetposieandfun · 28/02/2023 04:17

We always have salad with pasta!

RebeccaCloud9 · 28/02/2023 05:14

I love a side salad with a carbonara.

sashh · 28/02/2023 06:05

It's a side salad, you don't put it on the same plate.

MiddleParking · 28/02/2023 06:14

We have spinach straight out of the bag with my carbonara. On the same plate at the same time! I have it with pizza too. I love uncooked spinach.
