Does anyone remember coloured toilet paper? Any other random disappearances?

Just this really.

I have recollections of toilet paper being available in lilac, mint, peach, baby blue. My husband thinks in lying.

its now white. I’m not sure when the colours disappeared.

I'd love some lilac loo roll to brighten up the day. I realise that this is a non-problem but I’m bored and have had a glass of wine (or two).

Has anyone got any other random disappearances that cannot be explained?

I bloody loved those - yesterday I bought a jar of chicken paste 😂 and ate it on hot toast and butter!

Oo, never thought of chicken paste with hot toast. I want some and I want some NOW!

Toast toppers were VILE

Each to their own!

oh god I used to buy pink toilet roll to match my pink tiles. It seemed a good idea at the time! I also had pink soap from M&S.

Wallpaper borders used to be a massive thing. Do they still make them? I had one on my kitchen with a fruit design on it.
Yes it was rather hideous but the height of chic at the time!

Can you still get Matey bubble bath? My granny used to buy it for me and my brother and you had to be certain that the bubbles in your bath came from your bottle. The amount of bickering those bottles caused I'm surprised my mum didn't tell her to stop. I might try and buy a bottle next time I'm in the UK even though I take a bath about once a year.

Yes ! I won some in the school tombola last year 😅

JackiePlace · 28/02/2023 22:26

I have encountered the deep blue stuff quite recently. I think it was in a railway station loo.

Great! How do I convince my husband not to just travel with hand luggage when we come in the summer?

VonHorne · 01/03/2023 00:39

Oh yeah Wallpaper borders! reminded me of Terracotta living rooms and homeware from The Pier

Northernsouloldies · 01/03/2023 01:15

Thick candy stripe wallpaper on the bottom, hideous deep floral border, green marbled paper above, every bloody room in my current flat when first moved in.

hennaoj · 01/03/2023 07:46

Boxes of rainbow tissues. I used to dig through the box to get one of each colour to take with me to school (I needed a lot of tissues).

My granny used to buy those to please me. I loved them.

It’s probably been going back and forth to the school tombola for the last thirty years.

This is my front room. Was like it when I moved in.

I loved those Shaders and Toners for hair - used to buy Cherry. Loved it.

RosesAndHellebores · 01/03/2023 20:00

Oh God, the Laura Ashley border with lemons on above lemon and cream striped paper. I had it in the box room, complete with a lemon knicker blind!

VO5 hot oil. They were little tubes you’d put in warm water to heat them up and then squeeze them on your hair. I wanted them so bad as a kid because the adverts made them seem so glam.

I used to love this!!

I also remember the medicated loo roll my granda had that came in a wee box, it was like tracing paper.

It’s called Izal!! My grandparents had it too!

Lorrymum · 01/03/2023 21:31

I love this thread!
I have just googled and discovered that Vitapointe hair conditioner still exists. My Nana used to put it in her hair about 40 years ago and the smell always takes me back.
Also used to love Aquamanda perfume. It was brought back a few years ago and sadly smelt nothing like the original.

twoshedsjackson · 01/03/2023 21:32

You can still track down Alberto VO5 Hot Oil treatment on Amazon.
Now, if Pentel would reintroduce their 0.8mm italic nib disposable fountain pen....

You can still get it, which I was very excited about a few years ago and was going to buy a bottle because my brother and I always had it when we were little. But it doesn’t smell the same 😩 I have such a strong memory of its scent and it’s nothing like that now - really sweet and nasty. Gutted.

Oh yes those hair colour mousses!

Does anyone remember those ice cream pots with a chewing gum at the bottom? And feet shaped ice cream? And sunny d (which I think turned out to be mostly oil 🤮)

Twoball Screwball was the bubblegum ice cream and Funny Feet.
Loved a Funny Foot

We had pink toilet roll in the 70s/80s. I remember at brownies we used to make flowers out of it - I think you put a few sheets together and twisted them at one end to make the stem then pulled out the layers of the sheets at the other end to make the petals. We made them to decorate the hall for events and to give to our mums on mothers' day. What a treat!

It seems that the bath cubes that a few people have mentioned can still be bought- I received some from MIL last Xmas (although there is a chance that she's been storing them since the 80s).

benten54 · 07/03/2023 01:25

Bath cubes just became bath bombs didn't they? Square to round, drop the lavender, add some pink dye and glitter shite and hey presto.

VonHorne · 08/03/2023 22:02

this thread is like a comforting malty evening drink ☕️- speaking of which, I think you can still get these but they used to be more popular, malted hot drinks!

True. Charge £4 for a ball of bicarbonate of soda and some essential oils.

We had a primrose yellow bathroom suite & so of course my mum bought pale yellow toilet room Grin

Oh & whoever asked about the fruit shaped soaps Body Shop used to make - they had to discontinue them as new rules were brought in saying soap can't resemble food - so no more banana shaped & scented soap Biscuit

You can still buy lemon shaped and scented soaps in France / online and I love them! (I don't eat them though)...
