Does anyone remember coloured toilet paper? Any other random disappearances?

Just this really.

I have recollections of toilet paper being available in lilac, mint, peach, baby blue. My husband thinks in lying.

its now white. I’m not sure when the colours disappeared.

I'd love some lilac loo roll to brighten up the day. I realise that this is a non-problem but I’m bored and have had a glass of wine (or two).

Has anyone got any other random disappearances that cannot be explained?

I worked for a major toilet tissue manufacturer in the 80s. We had 6 colours in the range which were regularly tweaked to suit colour fashion trends. We had a think tank one year to decide what to call the new beige colour. After much deliberation, the sales team side of the meeting pushed for Champagne. The main reason being we could order loads of champagne to give away to store managers as an incentive to stock the new colour (and to have a bit surplus, for the sales team to sample)

This is an awesome story.

TCP in ointment form disappeared and I never found out why.

Like the OP I remember coloured toilet paper.

MeanderingGently · 28/02/2023 07:06

Oh yes, I remember coloured toilet paper, I loved it!!
Until quite recently, I used to buy a very nice cream coloured paper to match my bathroom, it's a shame it's all white now.

And it used to be possible to order monogrammed toilet paper. It was very expensive, you could have your initials in gold tastefully (!!) stamped into the corner of every sheet of paper. By the time I earned the sort of income that could cover such an extravagance, the option no longer existed.

These days I have no idea why anyone would want to wipe their bottom on my initials!!

Isn’t it « no more tears » as no more knots in your hair / broken hair from pulling on a knot, not no more tears in your eyes?

No more tears, Pure & gentle daily care, Our mildest formula, as gentle to eyes as pure water,

Apparently not 😳

I vaguely recall people saying that the dyes in coloured loo paper could give you cystitis/thrush, and it put people off.

LadyHarrietVane · 28/02/2023 10:02

I miss the tubs of frozen pink mousse that they used to sell in the supermarkets. They also had white ones with a kind of orange and pink jelly in the bottom.

JackiePlace · 28/02/2023 10:04

I think we used to have pale pink, and yellow (?) loo roll at home. Can that possibly be right? (Yellow?)

I had a Holly Hobby doll - the little one.😻
I wonder what my mum did with her?

And I had an "It's nearly the same" seconds duvet cover with a flower fairy on it.
It got replaced with Pierrot everything thanks to some craze my mum had.
I never did like clowns.

We had "Christmas" themed hand soaps from Avon at home featuring a woodland/horse drawn sledge scene. Mum put them out every Christmas but we were never allowed to use them! I think my sister still puts them out. So I don't know about the transfer picture, but the soap is starting to shrink after 40 years!

HairyMcHairyFace · 28/02/2023 11:11

Can you still get Matey bubble bath? My granny used to buy it for me and my brother and you had to be certain that the bubbles in your bath came from your bottle. The amount of bickering those bottles caused I'm surprised my mum didn't tell her to stop. I might try and buy a bottle next time I'm in the UK even though I take a bath about once a year.

I remember peach, pink and light green. Not lilac though.

Early 1970s, we always had purple loo roll, I think I even have a couple of photos of our bathroom with it visible!

Remember bath pearls. I used to love squeezing them. Haven't seen them for years.

My girls had those and I hated them! When the bath was emptied they left a line of congealed oil containing all the body dirt and it was a sod to clean!

Sisiwawa · 26/02/2023 00:24

Remember Camay? The fancy soap? Haven't seen that for a few years...

I recall that, maybe 60s, advertised as containing french perfume in a specific quantity that I can't recall!

notbloodylikely · 28/02/2023 11:26

@AndrexPuppy yes, I wasn’t sure what awaited me when I clicked the link but I was very pleasantly surprised!

Not just public toilets - at one time this was the only type there was, unless you counted squares of newspaper threaded on a string. Yes, I’m that old.

Izal in a box rather than a roll, totally unabsorbant, I also remember my Aunt's house with the toilet down the yard, no light or heat other that a small paraffin heater in winter to stop the pipes from freezing, it also had cut up newspaperon a nail which was actually more absorbant that the Izal we had at home! I bet I'm older too!

JudgeJ · 28/02/2023 11:43

Bicnod · 26/02/2023 07:46

My granddad had this as well... Just why??!!

Probably it was all there was available, before that it was cut up newspaper for a lot of people, 'soft' toilet roll started in the late 50s I think but was much dearer and not 'medicated', which was apparently important.

DahliaMacNamara · 28/02/2023 11:55

I wonder whether the Izal/Bronco type stuff was retained because it was less prone to become damp in outside toilets?
Fucking useless, of course. But not damp.

KimberleyClark · 28/02/2023 16:13

Another random disappearance - refill packs for herbs and spices. Whatever happened to them?

Violinist64 · 28/02/2023 16:28

I’ve seen refill packs recently in supermarkets.

PumpkinPie2016 · 28/02/2023 16:44

Now you've said it, I remember coloured loo roll!

Also pot pourrie (sp?) In bathrooms in a bowl 😂

And someone else mentioned those little doll covers for spare loo rolls 😂

Professionallytorn · 28/02/2023 17:05

Going back many years, duo cans - double ended large tins with meatballs in one end and pasta in the other that you boiled in water to heat up !

Professionallytorn · 28/02/2023 17:06

Also where's the orange lid 1% fat milk gone ?

Professionallytorn · 28/02/2023 17:07

Mushroom double swiss burgers in Burger King - heavenly !

Ludo19 · 28/02/2023 17:09

Zest soap and Mr Matey & Miss Matey and you got animal ones too my gran used to buy me one if the guy came round selling cleaning stuff.

Professionallytorn · 28/02/2023 17:09
