Yes I can taste the difference. No it’s not the same great taste.

Put out a lower sugar or salt free version if you want but leave my shit alone!!

People with diabetes were advised to drink lucozade when having a hypo - it could literally save their life. Then lucozade removed the sugar and replaced it with sweeteners without telling anyone, making it useless to diabetics to counter a hypo. Is that reason why it's a dumb move good enough for you or does it dent your pious and superior attitude?

www.iow.nhs.uk/news/Important-advice-for-people-with-Diabetes.htm#:~:text=Lucozade%20is%20commonly%20used%20as,energy%20for%20the%20body's%20activities.

A while ago a diabetic here was talking about some sweet they used to buy when nearing hypo and they were now with sweeteners.
My dad used to carry fructose sweets. I hope these will not be hit. They were powdery dissolved quickly and were great help when he was changing insulin brands so had sugar all over

Not sure if it’s already been mentioned as I haven’t read all the posts, but the HFSS (High Fat Salt and Sugar) regulations are coming in, and for producers, this means they can’t promote ‘on end’ which is a massive volume shifter. So they are all making the move to get in line with those regulations so they can continue to run those price promos
in this very lucrative location within major retailers and multiples (I work in food marketing)

Smarties! Are nothing sacred. I feel he same way about this as when they moved Songs of Praise out of the Sunday tea time slot. I don't even like Songs of Praise but something's just shouldn't be messed with.

Ritz crackers, they are harder and not as salty

Yes! They used to melt in your mouth. Now they're awful. 1st world problems but still 😂

@PonyPatter44

The day Tayto change the recipe of their cheese & onion crisps, though, is the day i book a one-way ticket to Dignitas.

bridgetreilly · 24/02/2023 21:59

@RumNotRun You can’t. Even the ‘classic’ version has sweeteners in it now. The only way you can get the original is to import it yourself from Europe. Or go on holiday to Italy and drink it there.

Galaxy chocolate tastes weird these days, plasticky. Most chocolate these days in fact!

The Moser Roth stuff from Aldi is still pretty good.

fdgdfgdfgdfg · 24/02/2023 17:46

Discos are the only salt and vinegar crisps that still live up to the glory days. A grab bag of them and the lining of my mouth is gone for a good week!

I can also recommend Aldi S n V Pop Outs - massive Sn V hit 😀

AlmostThereMaybe · 24/02/2023 22:35

I react badly to a type of artificial sweetener so have to be really careful these days after some recipes were changed due to the sugar tax (I really wouldn’t often have soft drinks but there is one in particular I’m sad about not being able to have now).

BashfulClam · 24/02/2023 22:36

my DH is still bitter about Special K being ‘new and improved’. Not improved just ruined.

cakewitch · 24/02/2023 23:04

Pretzels.. cannot find a packet of them that are even vaguely salty enough these days!

Jux · 24/02/2023 23:09

Orangina was always vile over here! Ionly ever drank it when I was in France having made the mistake about 20 years ago of being excited to see it in one of our local supermarkets and buying it. Lots of extra sugar/sweetener and much kess fizzy. Just turned into a shit drink- just for us Brits because it's what we like apparently.

GellerYeller · 24/02/2023 23:19

@cakewitch have you tried the ones in the Polish section of most supermarkets? They’re in a yellow pack. Sometimes they only have the stick shape(paluszki-apologies if the spelling is wrong), not the knot shaped. DH gets through loads of those. We have accidentally bought salt free ones once so you might need to check the pack.

Elphame · 24/02/2023 23:29

I’m finding I buy less and less processed food now. The sugar tax has made it all but impossible to go into a shop and buy a treat can of fizzy drink. Other than coke, which I’ve never liked, they all have sweeteners in. I have to stock up with Cawston Press from Waitrose every so often.

Ritz are dreadful, most of the canned soups aren’t nice anymore. I bought some ready salted crisps the other day and had to add more salt.

Yes, there is a straight version! And other shapes.
Sometimes they are from other countries.
Paluszki, tycinky.
Conetu?

Costco has great pretzels.

Heinz Tomato Soup is a mere shadow of its former self. It's got a really horrible sweet taste, I'm assuming it's sweeteners instead of sugar. I miss the original, it was peak childhood soup. Sad days.

stayathomer · 24/02/2023 20:04

I’ve found my people! Do you have rolos in the uk?( apologies if you invented them!) When they messed with them they broke my heart. Same with monster munch. And Coke Zero is not the same as coke!

Yes, rolos! I bought some the other day. They were tiny and horrible. So disappointing.

Yes! bought a tin the other day for my daughter who was off school, it was somehow both bland and sickly. It was the comfort soup of choice in my childhood - and for my children too, but no longer.

BobSacamono · 25/02/2023 05:29

Have been picking some up for DD. The four finger ones are in the chocolate bar aisle. The two finger packs are in the biscuit aisle, near the Penguins. Make it make sense!

@fdgdfgdfgdfg golden wonder salt and vinegar still strip the lining of your mouth....absolutely love them!

Firstruleofsoupover · 24/02/2023 18:25

How do people feel about Primula cheese spread with prawns? Until quite recently food of the gods. Now with a big price increase and tastes less good.

That’s a shame I used to love it won’t bother now.

liveforsummer · 26/02/2023 12:59

Yes - walkers cheese and onion '50% less salt, same great taste' stop lying, how can it remotely taste the same with half the salt, it doesn't! Yes to new versions but leave the old ones alone for the salt and sugar lovers among us

moksorineouimoksori · 26/02/2023 13:02

Does anyone else remember when Jammie Dodgers changed their recipe years back? theyve never tasted the same - and the texture is like sand now!
