DP thinks my bag is 'childish and showy'

I'm originally from Sweden and back home people of all ages carry these bags. Last week, I decided to purchase a new Kånken to replace the one I've had for 10 years. Picked this colour (www.fjallraven.com/uk/en-gb/bags-gear/kanken/kanken-bags/kanken-rainbow-mini?v=F23621%3a%3a7323450792466) this time around to replace the black one I had, and DH absolutely hates it. I use it primarily for dog walks and trips to the local cafe/shops and he thinks it's too showy/childish and feels 'embarrassed' when I take it with me when we go out for coffee together. Confused

AIBU to think that it's just a bag? It's not that bad, is it?

I like Kånken bags, but tbh I much prefer the more muted colours with no rainbows.

Dibbydoos · 25/02/2023 00:13

I love it, bright, happy bag and useful size/shape!

Your DPs a stick in the mud, his prob not yours x

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 25/02/2023 00:21

The bag is lovely but I wonder why he feels he can decide what kind of bag you should have - even if was awful, it's your bag. Is he odd about other decisions you make ? How would he react if you said his shirt or shoes were embarrassing ?

Having an opinion on something isn't 'deciding' anything. And OP has already said that she hates his toe shoes so they are at a mutual impasse.

Not sure why this commenter is seemingly trying to make this some big thing.

TwoShades1 · 25/02/2023 00:30

It’s a perfectly normal bag. Personally I don’t like bright colours for my own things but I acknowledge that lots of people do like bright colours and look great with them. The bag looks like it would suit both children and adults.

Rewis · 25/02/2023 00:35

"Everyone" has a kånken. I use mine daily. I have the bigger laptop version. Perfect size for ryanair. Very good for food shopping. Perfect for cycling to work with the laptop. Best backpack I've had.

Ceilingplaits · 25/02/2023 00:40

Ha ha. That's so smart and sensible. My bag is a multicoloured heart-shaped affair; my neighbour's is a smiling avocado. We're late 40s and early fifties.

BitOutOfPractice · 25/02/2023 00:43

He’s a sensitive little mite isn’t he?

BitOutOfPractice · 25/02/2023 00:45

And I’ve just read he has toe shoes therefore is in no position to call anyone embarrassing at all.

This must be a great marketing ploy for the bags.

I doubt a company that has made these bags for 45 years and sold millions of them necessarily need mumsnet for marketing.

That what they want you to think.

Harmonypus · 25/02/2023 02:57

Not a style of bag for me personally, but as everyone else has already said, you should be able to use whatever bag you choose.

JubileeQueen123 · 25/02/2023 03:04

ha ha …. Lovely bay. The description says it all:
Nature has no prejudices – the rainbow has become a symbol for diversity, acceptance and equality and we think it perfectly captures the spirit of outdoor life. With Kånken Rainbow, Fjällräven celebrates every individual’s right to express themselves. Part of the sales from each backpack goes towards environmental projects within the Arctic Fox initiative. A special edition pack with all that great Kånken love, and a bit more.

Kjpt140v · 25/02/2023 03:14

Not unreasonable but far too expensive.

Barnowl25 · 25/02/2023 04:04

I actually laughed aloud when I read he doesn't like your yellow bag but he walks around in his five toed shoes - cheered me up in the middle of the night while waiting for one of my sheep to lamb

Desertbarncat · 25/02/2023 04:17

That’s a great bag. Very pretty, perfectly fine for an adult to carry.

Doone21 · 25/02/2023 06:30

I get what he means, it just looks like something a child at kindergarten would have, not the colours but something about the shape and style BUT wtf? It's a bag, you're not making him wear it, is he a controlling kind of person? Is he obsessed with the look if things? My spouse is a bit like that too but I ignore him.

Hollywolly1 · 25/02/2023 07:07

It's a lovely bag and the colour is fab

FreddieMercurysCat · 25/02/2023 07:31

I’m nearly 50. I have one of these bags. My DH has never even commented on it. Your DH is being a total dick.

Tekkentime · 25/02/2023 07:56

Does anyone else think it's really ugly, or is it just me and OP's DH? 😂

Not as ugly as OP's DH's shoes!

Fernticket · 25/02/2023 08:03

I love this bag. It's colourful and fun.

stargazer2012 · 25/02/2023 08:04

I have the bright yellow kanken! Loads of mums I know have them too. He's being ridiculous 😂

HikingforScenery · 25/02/2023 08:19

not a fan of the rainbow striped but apart from that, it’s all good!

SLS500 · 25/02/2023 08:21

not my style and can’t stand anything with rainbows, but if you like it so what.

the bigger question is if your dh always judges your style or is this a one off. As a one off ok, but otherwise you have a bigger issue.

SLS500 · 25/02/2023 08:27

Omg just seen he has the foot glove shoes - whatever they’re called.
my dear you can go out naked with your body painted neon green with glitter and feathers NOTHING is comparable to those foot glove things. That would be an irreversible ick for me 😁
