DP thinks my bag is 'childish and showy'

I'm originally from Sweden and back home people of all ages carry these bags. Last week, I decided to purchase a new KÃ¥nken to replace the one I've had for 10 years. Picked this colour (www.fjallraven.com/uk/en-gb/bags-gear/kanken/kanken-bags/kanken-rainbow-mini?v=F23621%3a%3a7323450792466) this time around to replace the black one I had, and DH absolutely hates it. I use it primarily for dog walks and trips to the local cafe/shops and he thinks it's too showy/childish and feels 'embarrassed' when I take it with me when we go out for coffee together. Confused

AIBU to think that it's just a bag? It's not that bad, is it?

I thought it looked a bit boring but bright yellow is better. Why not have a colourful bag and if you walk your dog on roads then it's good to be visible!

Riri24 · 24/02/2023 22:17

Love these bags! I have a burgundy one. They are a bit like school bags but who cares. He's being silly.

Bythehairywartsonmywitchychin · 24/02/2023 22:20

My 12 year old has the same one. She loves it, but in my opinion It’s a teenagers bag and very overpriced for what it is.

DragonflyLady · 24/02/2023 22:24

Nothing wrong with it at all, just a normal bag!

userno777 · 24/02/2023 22:26

I can't stand anything with rainbows on them as they have bad connotations for me but your bag is practical and your boyfriend is pretentious.

Jacketandbeans · 24/02/2023 22:26

I would struggle to be with someone who was so insecure that he was embarrassed by a bag that he's not even wearing.

stacyvaron · 24/02/2023 22:32

I can't imagine why he feels anyone notices the bag his wife is carrying. Is he someone of such importance that paparazzi will plaster photos of your bag in the tabloids?

stacyvaron · 24/02/2023 22:34

When you’re 20 you care what everyone thinks, when you’re 40 you stop caring what everyone thinks, when you’re 60 you realize no one was ever thinking about you in the first place. ;)

Vinotinto78 · 24/02/2023 22:36

Ooh, I have one of these as my work bag. Love it; cool, practical and super hard-wearing. An excellent choice. Ignore your DH, he knows nothing 😂

SomePeopleAreJustBloodyStupid · 24/02/2023 22:37

It's like a child's school bag.

SomePeopleAreJustBloodyStupid · 24/02/2023 22:37

It's like a child's school bag.

Because that's exactly what it is.

Hmm1234 · 24/02/2023 22:38

Balancxiaga are cancelled after the child scandal. Wouldn’t exactly call those ‘socks’ fashion

EmbracingTheEyeBags · 24/02/2023 22:45

He wears shoes where all of his toes fit separator into their own little toe spaces.
And yet he insults your bag?!
I feel sick at the shoes. Your bag is fine OP. It is out there, but it's fine

That's a very narrow little world you're living in, then.

That sounds like a problem you need to work on.

iklboo · 24/02/2023 22:57

@Emotionalsupportviper - got you. I mostly agree. But referring to the rainbow flag being appropriated by the term that poster used is offensive to me. Because it's been the flag of the LGB community for around 45 years and it's nothing to do with the slur that person used.

iklboo · 24/02/2023 23:01

It's like a child's bag and if I saw a grown up wearing it I would assume they had special needs. Maybe that's why he's embarrassed.

Ableism now. Wow. This thread is the gift that just needs giving isn't it? Having a cute little bag as an adult = special needs. I can't even.

herdingcatss · 24/02/2023 23:10

haven't read the whole thread past page 1 but do u think it is due to the rainbow, as in it has lgbt overtones maybe?

simiisme · 24/02/2023 23:14

My ex husband used to think that the things I liked, my sense of humour, my dress sense etc were childish. Hence ex. (And the affair he had was a factor)
Current husband, of 22 years, is never embarrassed by me & is tolerant of my eccentricities.

isaterror · 24/02/2023 23:24

does he make these sorts of comments about other things you buy or is it isolated?Just trying to work out if this is usual for him or not…. Yes it’s bright, but it’s also lovely and what you wear is your own choice. Is he going to say this sort of thing to your children too? Tell him he needs to keep some opinions to himself …

IDontWantToBeAPie · 24/02/2023 23:39

Tell him nobody else cares what bag you use. It's a backpack, it's colourful and fun yes but that doesn't make it childish.

Adults don't have to stick to plain, classy colours

IDontWantToBeAPie · 24/02/2023 23:40

Although the yellow one does look a bit like a kids school bag/American yellow school bus colour.

Still it's just a bad

80sMum · 24/02/2023 23:48

Well, it does look a bit like a child's life-jacket, but who cares? If you like it, just wear it.

It's a great colour for wearing on walks if you're likely to be walking along the edges of country lanes where there are no pavements, as drivers could see you from a distance. I would wear it in those circumstances.

BabyOnBoard90 · 24/02/2023 23:50

This must be a great marketing ploy for the bags.

ireallycantthinkofaname · 25/02/2023 00:00

I LOVE it
