I’ve started a new job in November and one of my colleagues asked to be dropped off as a favour one day. Little did I know she would be waiting for me by the only exit on a daily basis. I’ve on numerous occasions made excuses and said I’m rushing to an appointment or my neighbour is locked out and I’ve got her spare indoors but to no avail. I’m what MN calls a pushover/ doormat. Im really upset as she doesn’t offer anything financially or even thank you. The worst thing is, I’ve given her the first lift home because she suffered a miscarriage and was taken ill at work. But because of that first kind act, she expected it everyday. I’m writing her a text message now as it’s getting too much now and I need to put my foot down. I don’t want to pussyfoot around her anymore.

Personally, I would give her a lift. Having a generous mind is a good thing. You aren’t being a pushover. You are being kind. Be proud of yourself. The world needs more people like you

OP I think your message was perfect to get through to someone who thinks nothing of getting in your taxi when you've already said you couldn't take her. She's the rude one!

Wow that is an unnecessarily rude message!

In no way whatsoever was it rude. It was direct, agreed; but the kind of person who will go and sit in somebody else's taxi without being invited probably couldn't manage subtle and tactful.

You would pay for a virtual stranger’s taxi ride home from work every day? If so, why not send the OP a weekly deposit!

I have tried subtle and hinting but she still waited by the exit. I think that message was a bit direct and I don’t think I’ve could’ve said it to her in her face. But I think it was the only way that would get through to her, sadly.

Hooray! Well done on standing up for yourself. Now await the excuses so that you have to pay for her just this once...

Zooeyzo · 23/02/2023 19:55

Will be interesting to see if she offers you some money now or give you a gift to thank you.

Oh, I was expecting a kickback but not bad at all

Of course she 'understands'

She knew exactly what she was doing!
