Offered one off lift to colleague, turned into daily thing without pay!!

I’ve started a new job in November and one of my colleagues asked to be dropped off as a favour one day. Little did I know she would be waiting for me by the only exit on a daily basis. I’ve on numerous occasions made excuses and said I’m rushing to an appointment or my neighbour is locked out and I’ve got her spare indoors but to no avail. I’m what MN calls a pushover/ doormat. Im really upset as she doesn’t offer anything financially or even thank you. The worst thing is, I’ve given her the first lift home because she suffered a miscarriage and was taken ill at work. But because of that first kind act, she expected it everyday. I’m writing her a text message now as it’s getting too much now and I need to put my foot down. I don’t want to pussyfoot around her anymore.

This cannot be serious. You’re paying for her taxi home every day?! In these circumstances there’s no room for politeness. Just get in, pull the fucking door shut and tell the driver to put his foot down.

At work say to her, 'We need to talk about the taxi. The thing is I don't actually live in that direction. I only took you in the taxi the first time because of the emergency situation. It is silly of me not to have mentioned it before, but I won't be able to do it again, it is costing me extra money and time. Sorry.'

So you get a taxi home from work every day and CF work colleague just gets in and doesn't pay her fair share? So you are paying for a taxi every day for you both?!! WTF? I was going to say just refuse to give her a lift as I was assuming you were driving your own car but I'm even more shocked that it's a taxi!!!!

I suggest you do this - work out how much you have spent on taxis since you started letting her share your taxi. Then send her an email saying;

Dear CF work colleague
Since X date, you have been getting into the taxi that I pay for to get home and it has cost me £X for all those visits. I am very annoyed that you feel it is appropriate for me to fund taxi transport for you on your way home from work. I will not be paying for your taxi transport any longer so do not get into my taxi ever again. You also owe me half the amount of £X to pay for your share.

Not really, the principle is the same, car or taxi. No one is owed a free ride.

Wow she's got a shiny brass neck! If you're still not telling her to get out (and fuck off) at the start of the journey then obviously you give directions the driver to take you very directly home without passing her destination first, then alight saying to driver "my friend will pay you at her house". This should take exactly once for her to stop taking the piss. And BTW if this stops her speaking to you at work then you've got a win-win.
But seriously tell her in front of witnesses in the break room you're not letting her get in a cab with you from now on ever. You never offered to cover her commute and you can't believe she's never offered to paid her share.
Bonus points if you present an invoice for her share of cabs up to date. (She probably won't pay it but you never know)

If she asks why, simply because I don't want to pay your cab fare everyday you cheeky cow 😂

We need to know more- why do you get a taxi every day? How much does it cost, and how far out of the way do you go to drop her off? And why, why, why haven’t you said anything to her, especially the day you’d specifically told her you weren’t taking her?

When speaking to her or anyone about this, don’t call it a lift. You aren’t giving her a lift. She’s hijacking your taxi. Stop it with immediate effect.
