Where are all the tomatoes?

I'll admit it, I eat a lot of tomatoes.

Daily probably.

But where are they?

AIBU to ask you if there are tomatoes where you live?

I read somewhere that some kind of virus or something had wiped out most of the spanish crop.

No tomatoes here, nor lettuce, of any variety.

Maybe there is some new new video and we are behind the times.... :-)

But I am sure it is weather related.

We had a shortage because of bad hail and storms which affected the crops. But we have an excess now, I suppose due to more planting of crops.

What is going on with onions through.....good grief they are ridiculously priced.

Having checked all the supermarkets locally, I'm off to the next town to try my luck.

Tomatoes are like flipping gold dust at the moment. Our local one day a week market sold out by 8am apparently.

None in my bit of sussex. Went to three supermarkets at the weekend, no tomatoes and no red peppers either.

I'm in the south of Italy and at this time of year, all our tomatoes are greenhouse grown and cost a fortune (if it's any consolation) Little sprig of vine tomatoes with about 10 on are £3 give or take. Bigger "salad" tomatoes are a bit cheaper but watery and tasteless.

I know this sounds quite ridiculous, but we could not get cherry tomatoes at quite a lot of shops last year or so. It turns out that they were just sold out because of that tomato and pasta tiktok video that went viral....

You do need a shit load of tomatoes for that meal, but to create a shortage is quite bonkers.

I still make this meal all the time. Delicious! Can't do it this week though...

I’ve just done a tesco order and there was not a single cherry tomato to be found. Even the expensive yellow and red ones/on the vine. My son eats them like grapes. The order confirmation just came through and they also didn’t have brocolli and satsumas.

Also tesco has no peppers to order online, the packs I mean. So I ordered two single yellow ones abs they’ve also been cancelled from the order as unavailable when it came to pack.

I did not know that. We are a Hayfever family so that is useful info.
