Where are all the tomatoes?

I'll admit it, I eat a lot of tomatoes.

Daily probably.

But where are they?

AIBU to ask you if there are tomatoes where you live?

I haven't had those delicious little cherry vine tomatoes for weeks now. I've been haunting Waitrose and M&S due to advice on here but to no avail.

We had tinned tomatoes on our breakfast this morning. The children were not impressed.

Lidl, or maybe Aldi, were limiting customers to 3 cucumbers! Who buys 3 cucumbers, unless they're catering for masses?

oviraptor21 · 05/03/2023 19:32

I often do.
If you eat them every day then you can easily get through three in a week.

Brexit innit

DeeCeeCherry · 05/03/2023 19:39

In Portugal, presumably. Well, that's where I am now and there's no shortage of fruit and veg at all. DCs are in Spain, no shortage either. But I guess 'creative' reasons for shortage will abound here. 2 weeks ago I was in Sainsburys & Aldi in London - no eggs...

They had everything at lidl yesterday, but then the only day they had significant shortages was the evening after the bbc report on the shortages! The check out assistant i always chat to said people came in and stripped the fruit and veg aisle bare like locusts, one man bought 5 cucumbers, who needs 5 cucumbers???

verdantverdure · 05/03/2023 20:23

There was that woman on the news who tried to buy 100 cucumbers wasn't there?

That must be for a business, surely?

We got tomatoes in our OddBox this week so that was very welcome.

No cucumbers or tomatoes in Aldi today
Weirdly also no pickled red cabbage for a good few weeks too

That's how we know Brexit is involved. (Along with government policy) These shortages are too local. They only seem to be happening to us in the UK.

I know it must be really frustrating and god knows I'd hate to be without tomatoes, but the idea of a fruit and veg whatsapp is really tickling me Grin

It's just photos of local supermarket veg sections followed by comments about what is it isn't available there right now, or triumphant photos of red peppers. Grin

It is simultaneously the most boring WhatsApp in the world but also the only one I jump to open as soon as I see there is a new message Grin
