childminders on MN when someone is paying them to look after their dc

shinola · 08/02/2008 22:55

am looking for a childminder so has a look athe childminders and staffroom bit of mumsntet

and see loads of messages from childminder, in work hours on line, in time they are be paid to work by us hard working mums, moaning about us hard working mums.

how dare they? I mean, if you are going to moan, do it in your own time

I don't have time to go on mumnset when I'm with ds, how do they find the time? what happens to the kis they look after? and t add insult to injury they are using their paid time to moan about people who are paying them

but not even that, I can't believe any reputable childminder or nanny can be on mumsnet when they are supposed to be looking after kids

money for old rope

put your baby in nursery. they have career structure, promotion prospects, and no internet!

VictorianSqualor · 08/02/2008 23:47

My childminder leaves DD to walk to school with the older kids as she is seven now, whilst I sleep in.
But that's besides the point.

DS(3) hates me being anywhere near him and putting the wrong bits of lego on his tower, or unlining his cars, or laughing at iggle piggles dancing, so I can see why CM's would leave a couple of kids playing together, actually, i have been roudn my CM's before now and we have left DS and one of the younger kids playing whilst we filled out forms.

Get a grip.

FAQ · 08/02/2008 23:47

shinola - let me tell you (as the mother of 3 DS's) that all 18 month olds are different.

DS1 I would have had hanging round my legs while doing ANYTHING.

DS2 was quite happily playing on his own by then.

And I don't like the insinuation that when I'm on MN (I'm not a CM btw) and typing/reading/etc I'm ignoring my children.......I may not be good at very much but I'm capable of holding 2/3/4 conversations at a time (one on the computer, one with DS1 and one with DS2).

Not to mention typing while looking at what they are doing and discussing it

ComeOVeneer · 08/02/2008 23:48

I am neither drunk (have had no alcohol), and have used both nursery, childminder and nanny in the past.

shinola · 08/02/2008 23:48

well, I wouldn't slack about on MN while at work, and this is the standard I expect for a CM - too much to ask? its aleisure pursuit, so do it in your lesure time

VictorianSqualor · 08/02/2008 23:49

Are they allowed to shit?

oh, please, what world are you living in. Of course people use chat rooms from work.

How about emails to friends? That would not take longer than posting on MN. Is that unacceptable too?

shinola · 08/02/2008 23:50

shitting is classified as a neccessity rather than a luxury in my house, don't know about yours...

OP posts:
TalkroundupElf · 08/02/2008 23:50

No VS they most cetainly aren't allowed to shit!

This must not be done during work hours -can be deemed as skivving

FAQ · 08/02/2008 23:50

oh God VS - sh*tting.......if they take as long as some people I know shinola would have kittens

ComeOVeneer · 08/02/2008 23:51

"well, I wouldn't slack about on MN while at work". That phrase alone will get a lot of peoples backs up

VictorianSqualor · 08/02/2008 23:51

I've never taken a shit whilst at work, got a thing about toilets, so maybe the CM should do the same?

shinola · 08/02/2008 23:51

ps love the equation of mn and shite, says it all really

Wotz · 08/02/2008 23:51

shinola I would agree with scottishmummy and use a very good nursery if you have any concerns about cms.

FAQ · 08/02/2008 23:52

well shinola my DS1 may beg to differ re necessity v luxury (he has to be reminded to sh*t and even then we're lucky if it's every other day)

Lauriefairycake · 08/02/2008 23:52

How about considering a nanny too ?

ComeOVeneer · 08/02/2008 23:52

Well if you feel it is "shite", what on earth are you doing here?

scottishmummy · 08/02/2008 23:53

i did not use a nany/CM for the following reasons

Nursery has variety of staff eg checks & balances

No Internet access

Social Interaction with peer group/other wee ones

manager to oversee and supervision

Promotion/career prospects eg baby room manager

4 mums i know joined nursery when they came home early found babty crying, soiled, distressed.....

Nanny on internet

Nanny having sex

Nanny watching TV and sky, smoking (non smoking house)

FAQ · 08/02/2008 23:53

shinola - if you think MN is shite...........then there's a little link near the top of the page called "log out"........

shinola · 08/02/2008 23:53

darling, I'm not the one who made the comparison

I merely pionted it out

OP posts:
VictorianSqualor · 08/02/2008 23:53

Oooh, be careful with the nurseries, I have a friend that worked in a nursery.
They had tea breaks and everything.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 08/02/2008 23:54

Shite ! shite

Oooh I'm gonna get my angry eyes now.

Diss CMs if you must, but not MN

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 08/02/2008 23:54

You seem to know an awful lot about mumsnet, and mumsnetisms to be a first time poster?

FAQ · 08/02/2008 23:54

scottishmummy I know plenty of mums who have gone to nursery and found their child crying, soiled or distressed.......
