Boris Johnson wants a 2nd bash at being PM. We wouldn't. Would we?

Today BJ is stirring up the DUP to oppose Sunak's N Ireland proposals, whatever they may be. Surely there can't be a second chance for the idiot responsible for our current mess? There aren't enough stupid people in our country to let him in again I hope. Will he unseat Sunak?

Anyone who thinks that Johnson lies no more than the average politician is either dense or deluded

Whatever Johnson says is picked through with a fine-tooth comb going back years - no other high-profile politician receives that level of scrutiny.

Someone earlier on this thread was posting about Tony Blair and then we also had links to Alastiar Darling. Quite what they were doing on a thread about Johnson I don't know, but I think that rather disproves the point you were failing to make.

And why is that you think?

thiswasmethen · 20/02/2023 23:21

Oooh, oooh.
I do have men by multiple partners - sorry everyone, I've nearly landed the full house on my good-for-nothing-blagger's bingo card.

@Clavinova in addition to making the assumption that I must be revoltingly immoral, you have assumed that I am stupid and, by extension, ill educated too.

You are wrong on all of these counts.

Of course I know the Labour Party policies on single parenthood, I was one then.
However, when in 1999, they made the swap from Family Credit to Working Family Tax Credit, the Labour government massively increased the amount single parents, like me, received.

The thread does not ask which party I would vote for if there was a GE tomorrow, though you have also assumed that I'm a raging lefty.

It asks whether I want BoJo back, no I don't, thanks.

DuncinToffee · 20/02/2023 23:20

And why is that you think?

Everyone has to be mean to my hero.

LexMitior · 20/02/2023 23:21

@Clavinova - Johnson is quite a world beater in many areas. Some of these firsts he has are rather unstatesmanlike to put it mildly. They make an incomparable list.

In that sense, he is truly world beating. But not, I think, to his terminal regret, a Churchillian sense.

The problem is he is fundamentally trivial in outlook

Clavinova · 20/02/2023 23:29

LexMitior
it is totally obvious that you do not know the book to which I refer

Peter Oborne?

And in fairness I think Johnson did one thing that meets this test. That was the development of a vaccine under his watch and getting some very good people to organise it, defend it and maintain for the UK.

I would add his early response to the Ukraine War and unblocking the Brexit stalemate in parliament.

I have to agree with you on Ukraine @Clavinova for someone who had obtained their permission as a result of Putin's meddling he did do a remarkable job of supporting Putin's oppenent.

thiswasmethen · 20/02/2023 23:33

I'm sorry for your loss too @Alexandra2001.

Our DC was under one when DH1 was killed, aside from the politics and other bs, it is utter hell, isn't it?

Aside from your work, you don't say how long ago your DH passed away.
Even now, with a great DH2, other adult DCs and living a naice life, the world can still be incredibly cruel. I wish you all the love and peace.

DuncinToffee · 20/02/2023 23:37

unblocking the Brexit stalemate in parliament.

Never mind about N. Ireland then, oven ready deal.

LexMitior · 20/02/2023 23:38

No, it's not Peter Oborne. Though he's not exactly any kind of fan of Johnson.

Johnson will never be a great PM. Partly because he is trivial, and he can't help himself on that. But the other thing is that great PMs, the best, leave a foreign policy and home legacy that is remembered well. He does not have those things. I'm sure he knows that. He draws a lot of comparisons to Churchill (he draws them, no one else), but he does not have the same character.

He should know, or does know, that what happens in NI is of international importance. But he really did treat it like a game. That is not a great PM. It is a chancer.

If Sunak gets a deal and it sticks then Johnson will have lost. It will be interesting to watch what happens.

in addition to making the assumption that I must be revoltingly immoral

Did you actually read the thread?

I quite clearly posted - "I'm not the morality police" - other posters found it immoral.

I do have men by multiple partners

Although out of interest, how many partners? More than three?

I thought that we were meant to ignore who voted against the very same deal that Boris proclaimed as amazing, causing the blockage in the first place. Let me see if I can remember, I think perhaps it was the MP for Uxbridge...

Reminds me of another Keir Starmer fact-check;

Shaky evidence for Starmer’s attack on Johnson Brexit promise

www.channel4.com/news/factcheck/factcheck-shaky-evidence-for-starmers-attack-on-johnson-brexit-promise

DuncinToffee · 20/02/2023 23:44

Starmer didn't plan, negotiate or sign the oven ready deal, he is not the government.

But keep going with your whataboutery

LexMitior · 20/02/2023 23:46

Even the most cursory dig would have made clear that the oven ready deal was not ready.

However, you can't govern international trade with soundbites and hence Johnson's triviality is revealed.

Clavinova · 20/02/2023 23:52

The oven-ready deal was the Withdrawal Agreement – which set the terms of our immediate departure on 31 January [2020] - the Channel 4 Fact Check link seems to take that view as well.

LexMitior · 20/02/2023 23:53

I mean try reading it. Has anyone actually read it?

LexMitior · 21/02/2023 00:00

Anyway I must go to bed.

If anyone wants to tell me what exactly made the Withdrawal Agreement oven ready and indeed, what oven ready means in the context of international relations I will be glad to read it.

Really, it could have been microwave ready. The triviality of phrase tells the character of the man.

DuncinToffee · 21/02/2023 00:02

Indeed it was, and just look at the situation N. Ireland now. That is a Johnson government mess.

Teaandtoast3 · 21/02/2023 01:00

Had anyone tried asking Starmer what a man is? I just wonder… because if he can answer that, then he ought to be able to answer the same question in regard to what a woman is.

Fuck Boris. Fuck Starmer. In fact fuck the vast majority of them 🤷‍♀️

HerbWord · 21/02/2023 01:02

Simonjt · 19/02/2023 10:49

I wouldn’t be surprised if the UK voted for an actual pile of shit.

Oh wait, they already did :P

LuluBlakey1 · 21/02/2023 01:04

No. He is a liar, a cheat and an idle git. He is destroying his own party for his benefit.

Emotionalstorm · 21/02/2023 01:07

This is an unpopular opinion but I hope the Tories win the next election. I hope they bring Boris back because he's their only chance of a victory. They need some of the magic juju he has considering the recent polls

Exactly. She can't defend the loathsome liar that is Johnson without bringing other people into it though. Pathetic.
