Manager said no to holiday request

I'm probably going to get my arse handed to me on a plate here but fck it.
I asked for two days off on Monday just passed
I asked 10 days in advance.
Just been told today that it's been refused.
I asked why, was told 'I don't know'

I am very hot headed and I have such strong temptation to walk put right now. (I have another thread about my contract if anybody cares)
I've been spoken to like shit by this manager, talked down to on a daily basis, I've been micromanaged.
I dread coming to work, I cry most days. Management allowed another employee to verbally abuse me and no consequences were ever brought to the other person.

Would I be totally unreasonable to walk out? The thought of never having to work in this place again gives me great relief. Or am I just being stupid and should suck it up

You really aren’t understanding how tax works. Tax free allowance is based on earnings across the year. It’s cumulative.

It doesn't matter anyway, I know what I'm meaning

No, working two weeks in hand means no pay for four weeks if she’s fortnightly paid. The first two weeks is paid back when you leave. She will have been paid up to the day she left plus the two weeks in hand from when she started.

@DotAndCarryOne2 she said the NEXT two weeks pay.

Yes, the next fortnight includes last week's hours

You might think you know what you mean but if you think overall you’ve paid more tax you would be wrong. You’re also unreasonable to think that they wouldn’t send you a final pay check when you quote with no notice.

Buddythecat1 · 22/02/2023 17:15

Just had it confirmed I have no outstanding holidays as they haven't paid me any
I get more and more confused

OP posts:
lieselotte · 22/02/2023 17:38

Email them and set out your holiday entitlement and when you've actually taken any.

For example, I am due x days.

I took holiday on y days

I requested holiday on z days but was turned down, so am owed that holiday.

Therefore I am owed £m and request payment with this fortnight's payroll.

And yes, go to ACAS as they can help with more "aggressive" wording if needed.

Contact ACAS and explain, they’ll contact the employer and sort it out for you.

Couple of things you might want to check.

what does your contract say about sick pay? The kind of contract you’re talking about doesn’t normally pay full pay.

parental leave should be unpaid.

do you have a record of what you worked on average per week? If yes you can work out holiday pay owed. But also include how much you have taken off.

It actually doesn't say anything about sick pay, just says for any period covering more than 7 days illness you will be required to show a Dr's note

The parental leave that they put me down for was unpaid

I worked 43.5 hours since the 17th of August 2022. I had 2 days holiday in October

Normally she gets paid for two weeks work every two weeks. This time she's been paid for four weeks work this time, and in a fortnight won't be paid anything. Therefore the whole second fortnight will be taxed at 32% rather than having the first £480 tax-free. Obviously she'll get it back at the end of the tax year but until that happens she will be £150 short.

www.gov.uk/calculate-your-holiday-entitlement
This should tell you what you are entitled to, unless your contract is more generous. Remember that your annual leave is based upon what you actually worked, rather than just the minimum you are contracted for.

DdraigGoch · 22/02/2023 21:51

I'd guess that you are entitled to at least 120 hours, minus the two days you have taken.

How on earth did you work that out?

You’ve worked 43.5 hours since august or 43.5 hours a week?

Re sick pay. That means you’re only legally entitled to SSP. Were you paid in full?

if parental leave was unpaid then that is correct.

sounds like you might have had holiday pay as sick pay.

Then ask for a break down re holiday.

With you next job I would buck up. That’s a lot of time off when you’ve only been there 6 months.

DdraigGoch · 22/02/2023 23:34

It's a bit late for this employment but make sure that you join a union for the new one. It provides you with legal advice in the event that you are mistreated.

I do agree but it wasn't intentional
The days for parental leave were already agreed at my interview and my time off sick was in December when the whole country came down with the same flu type symptoms, it didn't help that it turned into an ear infection
It wasn't like I was purposely taking time off for the heck of it

Do you get ill intentionally? If you’re not well enough to work then why on earth would you go in?

Stewball01 · 23/02/2023 15:04

I'd like to tell you to say fuck you but you need a job waiting for you. Is there nobody you can complain to. Go over this.bitches head?
