To just leave this training now and die of shame?

I'm on a work training event. It's casual dress so I'm wearing black leggings. Anyway... just gone to the loo on lunch break and discovered that I've been walking around this morning and in the canteen area with a hole in the bum of my leggings! Not a tiny hole either - it's sort of medium ish. Very obvious. I feel utterly ashamed and to think of how many people this morning have caught a glimpse of my arse and not told me!? I've turned my leggings around in the loos as I can sort of cover the hole at the front but oh my god. I want to die of shame. Do I style this out or just walk out and go home now? 🫣

Oh OP that is funny. In future wear a top long enough to cover your bum! 😂

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 15/02/2023 15:06

I think your only two options are:

  1. Move to Columbia, change your name and start a new life.
  1. Make more holes all over the leggings and claim it's a deliberate fashion.

Good luck, I hear Bogota is lovely.

BlueHeelers · 15/02/2023 15:09

YABU to wear leggings to work. Leggings are not “casual dress” they are for home or gym only.

Jellybean23 · 15/02/2023 15:10

The leggings with bum on display weren't leaving much to the imagination anyway so a hole isn't going to make much difference.

Trinidading3 · 15/02/2023 15:18

Honestly don't worry, it's happened to loads of people, if not this other embarrassing mishaps, do the rest of the training, your will laugh your head off in a few weeks time.....I remember going to the shops without checking my face and people kept staring strangely but not saying anything....low and behold I had my morning breakfast stuck to my face....lol....I remember a senior leadership person had walked across the high reception area in front of tons of people with her skirt tucked into her tights not knowing her backside via her tights was on full display..... honestly it happens to everyone....motto of this story....always check face and clothes in mirror before leaving the house.....I'm surprised nobody told you....perhaps nothing seen....don't worry....laugh it off.....

If it helps, I used to teach abroad - adults in the evening and little kids during the day. Formal culture so we had to wear suits even teaching the lively kids' classes, and I tore a hole right up the back of the trousers. I had 3 adult classes to teach with no more than 5 minutes between each one to change classrooms, get textbooks etc, so I couldn't do anything about it. Had to stand rigidly facing students for the next 3.5 hours and pray to God that nobody in this very formal culture noticed my knickers were on total show.

Absolutely mortifying. Don't worry, OP, we've all been embarrassed in this sort of way and you won't be the first or last.

Tamrastarr · 15/02/2023 15:26

I bet most people didn't even notice! I had a lady stop me in our shared kitchen area at work to tell me I had loo roll hanging out the back of my leggings!! I was mortified but so thankful that she told me!! I obsessed over it for days!! LOL

Hankunamatata · 15/02/2023 15:27

I changed to jeggings, much less risk of butt holes.

Tamrastarr · 15/02/2023 15:31

@Dammitthisisshit That's hilarious! I hope he got the work!

I think wearing leggings without covering your arse is grim enough in the first place, no one wants to see your camel toe or arsecheeks.
The amount of times I've seen through and saw knickers. 🤢

This. And so many other posters have said the same.

there is a difference between weekend casual and work casual. Leggings are not appropriate.

one of my old neighbours only ever wears leggings and short T-shirts when not at work. I can accurately describe all her knickers.

SaySomethingMan · 15/02/2023 15:33

Westing a top that doesn’t cover your bum in leggings means you’d have been showing off more than anyone wanted to see in a work environment, even in casual dress, so this isn’t a step that far off…

BeverlyHa · 15/02/2023 15:39

it means i give monkeys about people's opinions LOL

Surreality22 · 15/02/2023 15:51

That happened to me years ago in my male dominated workplace. I was walking around with a huge hole on the arsecheek of my linen trousers. God knows how many people saw it. Eventually one guy shouted me over and told me and I was able to hide it a bit with my handbag. Cringe. I also got some comments from the office perv. Luckily it was nearly hometime at that point.

BellePeppa · 15/02/2023 15:53

Never wear tops that don’t cover your bum when wearing leggings. Lesson learnt 😁 poor you but I remember my kids laughing at me once in John Lewis, when I asked why it was because I’d been walking round with my skirt in my knickers (after going to the loo). At least I never had to see the other customers again 🥴I feel for you.

ironhelp · 15/02/2023 13:33

🤣🤣 I walked round with a pair of knickers stuck to the back of my jeans before (must of got attached in the tumble drier) and no one told me for a whole day!

😂😂

One of many reasons why thin leggings are entirely unsuitable work wear as a stand-alone garment.

no one wants to see your arse cheeks, camel toe or the fabric of your knickers ever time you bend over and they stretch out

Just wear trousers or a dress/skirt over them

Yes this! Leggings are not work wear , no matter how casual the dress code! And why not at least wear a top that covers your arse? Unless you work in a gym then crack on 🤷‍♀️

Cherryblossoms85 · 15/02/2023 16:01

I can offer moments of shame so much worse than this. The time my period leaked all over a blue cloth seat in a meeting room. The time I wet myself in an oyster coloured ballgown. Straps breaking on tiny dresses. Bikinis falling off. A hole is a bagatelle.

spiderlight · 15/02/2023 16:21

My friend had a huge falling-out with her mother and went no-contact with her for several years - then she saw her in Tesco walking round with her skirt tucked into her knickers and her arse on full show. She agonised for a few seconds before running after her to tell her, and that was what eventually led to a reconciliation, but can you imagine how mortifying it must have been?!

Worth it then!

Pricklyheath · 15/02/2023 16:25

As a small dc in the 60’s I remember the elastic breaking in my aunt’s knickers as she exited the bus.
She was mortified when they landed round her ankles.
I was mystified as my dm wore modern knickers although this was the same aunt that used San Izal toilet paper! Horrible stuff.

To just leave this training now and die of shame?

@FurAndFeathers I totally agree! Leggings are for the gym only.

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 15/02/2023 16:47

Years ago I wore a bright yellow short-sleeve pullover blouse to work; late afternoon someone said "So it's the fashion now to have your pocket on your back?" I'd worn it all day the wrong way round.

Have to say -- maybe I'm old-fashioned but in any work setting, no matter how casual, I think leggings should only be worn with tops that cover the entire rump. Or under dresses, or that sort of thing.

Most of us would be rather taken aback if a man showed up in thin tights and a short T-shirt; why would it be acceptable for a woman to do so?

AllAboutMargot · 15/02/2023 16:48

Meh, we've all had embarrassing fashion fails in public.

I was half way through a training day when I noticed I had odd shoes on! Got dressed in the dark, obvs.
