Dog people who use the B word

DonnaBanana · 11/02/2023 11:21

I’m not into dogs myself but I often come across people who are and especially amongst the more breeder-y/training/“Dog life” people they seem to take pride in using the B word (that rhymes with pitch) as much as possible and it turns my stomach.

I know that female dogs are technically called that but they seem to endlessly use the word even in contexts where it’s not relevant to mention the sex of the dog. For example “oh yes I was training my B the other day and my B made a mistake so I didn’t give my B a treat” And I’m like please just stop, call it a dog or by its name. You are just trying to be offensive.

It’s such a shame such a horrible word is used for two reasons but AIBU.

OP posts:

YABU. You call a female horse a mare, a female donkey a Jenny, a female cat a queen. It’s just the correct terminology. It’s a mile apart to use it as an insult.

DonutsAreNotLunch · 11/02/2023 13:57

I have two bitches but I would normally just call them buy their names unless I was specifically talking about the sex. If I’m taking about them I will say something like “these furry cunts were barking at cats all night so I’ve not had much sleep”. The dogs don’t seem to mind being referred to in this manner.

Topsyturvy78 · 11/02/2023 13:58

It was used to describe female dog's long before the offensive word.

My older sister called me the b word behind my back and my nephew overhead. (Not his mum) Told her don't you call my auntie Jane a b a bitch is a girl dog 😂😂😂

DotAndCarryOne2 · 11/02/2023 13:58

A dog is a male canine. A female canine is a bitch. Just because the word has been misappropriated as an insulting term, doesn’t make it incorrect in this context. A male chicken is a cock - also slang for a male member. A male horse is a stallion - also used as slang. Birds are tits, shags, etc. Are you going to go all faint every time these words are mentioned, even though the terminology is correct ? Yet another example of a ridiculous assault on free speech.

DotAndCarryOne2 · 11/02/2023 14:01

Cheesecakeandwineinasuitcase · 11/02/2023 13:29

It’s an offensive and derogatory term used against women, mostly by men. So when I hear being used it makes my stomach turn. I have also noticed certain people seem to enjoy using the term and make a point of doing so. Why not just say dog or refer to the dogs name?

But when used to refer to a female canine, the terminology is correct, why do you find it offensive ? If it makes your stomach churn, I think that’s on you, not the person using the term.

BogRollBOGOF · 11/02/2023 14:02

There's no swear filters on MN so you don't have to be twee about typing bitch. Especially when bitch is being used in its correct context rather than as a mysogenistic insult.

DotAndCarryOne2 · 11/02/2023 14:07

lordStrange · 11/02/2023 12:02

Yanbu at all, I think bitch is a horrible word and I'm a right potty mouth. You're op reminds me of the neighbour in Ghosts ( thinking about that since there's that thread going on) who is always screaming for his bitches.
Don't listen to arseholes on here op Smile

Arseholes ? For suggesting that using the correct terminology for a female canine is not offensive ? Now I’ve heard it all. Off to blow my brains out - sorry if that’s triggering !!

BigSkies2022 · 11/02/2023 14:10

Well, OP, I know someone who used to take pleasure in calling his dog, 'Stupid black bitch'. She was indeed black, and a bitch, but he used the phrase deliberately to goad, because of course no-one could really object to him using those words. He is a bit of a prick, obviously.

CPL593H · 11/02/2023 14:10

My 19th century born grandmother considered "damn/ed" bad swearing, but would happily describe a female dog as a bitch. Because she is.

I’d prefer if you referred to it as the A word that rhymes with “farceholes”, thank you very much.

WeWereInParis · 11/02/2023 14:14

DopeGirl · 11/02/2023 11:40

I agree OP.

Your average dog owner says ‘my dog was barking all night’ or if you know them well ‘Cassie was barking all night’

These dog type people ‘my bitch was barking all night. She’s a fussy bitch, not like her brother who is calm. I’ve had this bitch 3 years blah blah blah bitch blah bitch bitch bitch’

There is a weird sort of glee to it too. Like you can’t say anything because it is factual terminology. But realistically it’s not normal terminology you hear on everyday conversation and the word is more used in a derogatory fashion than in a factually correct way. They know when you hear it you’re more likely to associate it in the derogatory context of the word. They are always a certain type of dog obsessed person too.

Obviously others on mumsnet don’t get where you’re coming from and that’s fine. But I get what you mean. I’ve met them.

I know what you mean. It doesn't offend me, but one person I know who does this comes across as a teenager who has just discovered that bitch can be used in that context and is thrilled about it.

I don't know if it's a specific type of person though. Maybe it is.

HufflepuffRavenclaw · 11/02/2023 14:14

"And I’m like please just stop, call it a dog or by its name. You are just trying to be offensive."

But a dog is a male dog. Dogs and Bitches = dogs. Dogs and vixens = foxes.

Elphame · 11/02/2023 14:16

Ridiculous.

My older dog (as in male) can be unpredictable with other dogs (he really hates the brachycephalic ones) but is fine with bitches. If I see an unfamiliar dog walker approaching then I will ask if his dog is a bitch as if it's another male I will take the precaution of keeping mine on a very close lead just in case.

kimchifix · 11/02/2023 14:22

"A b word that rhymes with pitch"! I am going to assume this is a joke thread..

JimHensonWasAGenius · 11/02/2023 14:24

YANBU OP, if you don't like it you don't like it.

FWIW I AM a doggy person and have always had female dogs.

I've never used the word either.

Ketchupwee · 11/02/2023 14:25

Oh good god, talk about people finding reasons to be offended

kimchifix · 11/02/2023 14:26

This reminds me of the time I cut myself in the playground and my friend went to tell the teacher because I said I had a bloody finger. (We were 5) 😆

Heartsandbirds · 11/02/2023 13:57

Mare, yes, but I’ve never heard of ‘Jenny’ or ‘queen’ to refer to female donkeys or cats. Hardly terms in regular use!

And come to think of it I’ve also never heard a dog owner refer to their female dog as a bitch in casual conversation. I only see that regularly in books written at least 70 years ago (and usually by characters who are either farmers or posh hunting and shooting types!)

I’d expect people to talk about bitches if they are dog breeders or vets, but otherwise, language evolves, and this is one that’s on the way out.

For what it’s worth I think OP is right that people who repeatedly refer to their bitches are doing it to make a point. But I think the point is ‘I’m not like those people who don’t use the proper old terms, I’m a dog expert!’

🤣🤣🤣. Don’t think it’s so much that they’re worried about swear filters - more that they’re scared of the keyboard spontaneously combusting !!

Ketchupwee · 11/02/2023 14:25

Oh good god, talk about people finding reasons to be offended

Surely we must be running out of them by now !!

PriamFarrl · 11/02/2023 14:32

Don’t be a soft cunt, op.

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 11/02/2023 14:34

A woke dog or owner ?
Don't chose this hill to die on

pigsDOfly · 11/02/2023 14:37

I only clicked on this thread to see what the B word could be. I actually thought OP might be referring to something like 'fur baby', which I find irritating; then I read it's the B word that rhymes with 'pitch'.

Seriously, this has to be a wind up.

My dog is a bitch because she's a female canine. How in God's name is that offensive?

It's no more offensive than me referring to myself as a woman because I'm an adult female human being.

Do you get hot under the collar when you hear people talk about a cow or a doe or any of the other words to describe female animals?

Shade17 · 11/02/2023 14:37

I read this in my head as There's no swear filters on MN so you don't have to be twee about typing, bitch.

……takes gun barrel from up left nostril to reply……. What is a ‘farcehole’ please ? The French term for stuffing is ‘farce’ so I’m assuming it’s something to do with a chickens’ bum !! Or possibly a cock’s bum ? OP, are you getting how ridiculous this is by now ?
