Listen to his interview with BBC radio Nottingham. The man is a liar and aggressive when challenged. How on earth was he elected in the first place. He goes on that attack when questioned about uncomfortable facts. Still says that no one on £30000 should need a food bank. Has he heard how much housing costs are, how much food and fuel prices have risen?
Sorry, cant create a link to the interview but its on the BBC news page this morning.

He's awful. Base, bit very intelligent, aggressive and boorish. I just don't get who votes these people in. But clearly there are lots of them, because these people keep getting voted in. I despair.

LlynTegid · 09/02/2023 17:31

Agree with the 'because Corbyn' comment that was the first reply. Nasty man who was elected when the choice of Prime Minister was between someone who appeased anti-semitism and one who should face charges of treason and manslaughter.

longwayoff · 09/02/2023 18:39

He's on Planet Brexit, a mouthpiece for his skulking mates who joined Tory Party when the Farage Ferrago fell apart. Apparently, pp above, they dont like being called to account by lefties for the utter fucking mess they've caused. Well we dont like living with it. Thanks a lot.

@JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon - did ukip stand? They pulled candidates out of many Tory marginals.

Brexit party stood they came 4th.

Lee Anderson's main rival was charged with historic child sex offences in 2015 (dropped before the 2019 election). He still managed to come second.

Says an awful lot!

ConcordeOoter · 09/02/2023 19:09

ilovesooty · 09/02/2023 11:41

Sadly that doesn't surprise me.

I bet his heavily Brexit voting constituents think all the immigrants should go home, support the death penalty and think asylum seekers should be sent to Rwanda too.

It says a lot about them really.

Ewww aren't the lower orders gross?!

Probably don't even shop at waitrose.

That's a bit of a leap. I don't think I said or implied anything like that.

@ConcordeOoter working class folk can make disastrous decisions y'know ? They are not all salt of the earth types....

Remind me not to visit Ashfield.

I hope he is booted out at the next election.

Hes popular in ashfield as hes a local and seems to do alot more for the area than previous labours mps.

User135644 · 09/02/2023 17:21

Brexit is everything to Ashfielders.

Brexit voters are desirable to both parties these days

Clavinova · 09/02/2023 20:11

I have just totted up if we were to just spend money on bare essentials:
Overcrowded Housing (2 adults and 2 opposite sex teens in a 2 bed) - £950*

Utility bills - £400
Dental plan (cause we cannot get NHS in our area) - £50

£4800 per year utility bills for a 2 bed (after the government's help + not including phone bills)?
£600 per year dental plan?

JusteanBiscuits
30p Lee used a worker in his office as an example.
A single female spending £124 a month on travel, which means she lives in central London.
She pays £600 "for a room". £600 for a shared room in zones 1 & 2 is cheap.

It is cheap - it was reported that she pays £775 per month for a single room.

Mummyofdoggies · 09/02/2023 20:53

He is either hated or adored by people in Ashfield with nothing in between. Is rude in his communication with constituents....assuming he bothers to reply. There isn't a high turnout of voters, lots of historical issues in the area, and so actually not that many people actively chose him. There was some very convenient issues with other parties at the time of his election....all of which mean it's not a case of everyone in Ashfield being in favour of him....and many thinking he is a scumbag as suggested by the OP

Second place now runs the council and has been arrested since with lots of his councillor friends 😔

TooBigForMyBoots · 09/02/2023 21:08

The people of Ashfield will have 2 more years of the Tories and 30p Lee before the next GE. I have no doubt they will cop on in that time.

Just double checked it, as I was walking when I typed so just rounded up/down.

Annual salary
£32,215.32

Gross pcm 2684.61

Deductions
Tax 248.60
Ni (a) 201.89
Pension 442.96
Student Loan 92

Your pension is not a compulsory reduction. This is something you choose to sown your money on and nothing wrong with that, but to say you earn £1600 after deductions from your £33k salary is absurd.

Anti-semitism wasn't the big issue on the doorstep there, it was Brexit and Labour deemed to betray them over it by demanding another referendum (a position led by Keir Starmer funnily enough, Corbyn weak enough to go along with it).

Red wall towns just wanted Brexit above all else. That blokey snakeoil charm of Boris and Farage also works like a charm in these places (and why chancers like Anderson appeal).

Don't worry if you visit once you will remember not to go back!

It is a black hole of despair and depravation. Last time we accidentally passed through at about half eight in the morning there was a line of about eight mobility scooters outside a packed wetherspoons. That sums up what life is like there.

StillWantingADog · 09/02/2023 22:28

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 09/02/2023 11:10

Yes, he is a twat and has been for a long time.

The interesting thing about this story to me is that Sunak has shown such poor judgment in promoting him. You'd think he might have learned some lessons by now about surrounding himself with liabilities, but apparently not.

This. I am no Rishi fan but I didn’t think he was that dim.

newnamethanks · 09/02/2023 22:45

Sunak is in hock to the Frothing Right of the Nasty Party who give him Chinese burns round the back of the Speakers Chair if he doesn't show them some favour by appointing them to favourable positions. At least, I hope that's the explanation for Swella, 30pee, Gullis et al. Ohhhhh it's so bloody depressing. Hopefully 30pee will embarass himself within a month and have to resign? As if. Have to be prised out with a tyre iron like Zahawi and Boz.

Eyesopenwideawake · 09/02/2023 22:53

Listened to the clip on LBC. Loved the way the interviewer played all 11min 14seconds of the interview. Class.

Blossomtoes · 09/02/2023 23:01

George Freeman (Tory MP) on Questiontime is saying he’s fundamentally wrong.

So much depends on where you live, because housing costs vary so much.

In my part of the SE, an "affordable" 3-bed HA house would cost almost £1,200 a month. In Ashfield, it would be £475 a month. The disparity in rents is even greater in the private sector: average for 3-beds is £2,400 v £741. But nurses, teachers, firefighters etc get the same salary in Ashfield as they do where I live.

Universal credit would even things up to some extent, but the gap between the max UC will pay and average rents is also greater.

newnamethanks · 09/02/2023 23:06

Just heard on news that MPs will receive a pay award of 3% this year. Well excellent, can't have them going short. No food banks for them thank heavens. Perhaps 30pee will give his office assistant a pay rise. I bet she's earned it.

toomanypillows · 09/02/2023 23:29

I'm just here to provide some balance. I've lived in Ashfield, in a couple of different areas for over 30 years and I also work in Ashfield.
It has areas of deprivation (mainly some of the towns) but it also has areas of affluence and a decent amount of areas who are doing just fine!
There is a huge group of people who band together under the name "Lee Anderson MP Does Not Speak for Me" and it has enormous traction. We share resources, plan events, support one another and we work hard to ensure that our voices are heard.
I don't know ANYONE locally who plans to vote for him next time.
His supporters shout the loudest of course, but most of the people who follow him and suck up to him on social media aren't from our constituency.

He blocks anyone who disagrees with him, so lives in a complete echo chamber.

Ashfield does need some love in parts, but there are also areas of outstanding beauty, lots of opportunities locally and investment. A good chunk of my family and many of my friends live in Ashfield and I assure you, there is way more to it than 30p Lee.

He's an abhorrent, unhinged scumbag and that opinion is pretty widespread around here.

The "red wall" loaned him their votes and it was almost exclusively on Brexit and anti - Corbyn.

6-bob Knob as he is largely known, was formerly a Labour Councillor and well known locally for "speaking his mind" which a lot of people put store in when they elected him. Not many of them realised how divisive and despicable he truly was. Now people have seen him, those votes will be taken back.

I'd be surprised if the tories are even the third party next election in Ashfield.

Crikeyalmighty · 09/02/2023 23:42

@toomanypillows that's good to hear- I may not be that fond of my birth place and where I lived till I was 29 but seeing this tosser and Ben Bradley too representing the area really gets my back up - you are correct as well in that it's a mixed picture in that area, when people talk about deprivation , it's not quite like that- it has quite comfortably off areas too.

IneedanewTV · 10/02/2023 00:00

Those of you calling him names just have a look at his face book profile. I don’t agree with most of what he says but he is very active and visible. He visits his constituents and businesses. He supports local issues and his very critical of the local council which does sound corrupt.
100% more visible than my MP Helen Waterley who really just spends her time in the nice villages and up in London. She certainly doesn’t represent me.
