to think that 30p Lee is a scumbag

Listen to his interview with BBC radio Nottingham. The man is a liar and aggressive when challenged. How on earth was he elected in the first place. He goes on that attack when questioned about uncomfortable facts. Still says that no one on £30000 should need a food bank. Has he heard how much housing costs are, how much food and fuel prices have risen?
Sorry, cant create a link to the interview but its on the BBC news page this morning.

@Hagpie Cack Conroe is a middle class liar, a fraud, a thief, and every bit as nasty and entitled as Lee.

I think its more a case of those of us who vote conservative are just learning to keep our mouths shut when asked and be non committal

I don't blame you for keeping quiet. If I'd voted for the party that wrecked the UK and added £££ to my friends' mortgage bills I'd keep schtum too.

All MPs are, by definition, popular with their constituents.

They can also be twonks. The two aren’t mutually exclusive.

I would not judge the good people of Ashfield based solely on Crazy Peg who lives behind the bus station and similarly I would not judge them based on this absolute rocket.

Not necessarily. Our MP is spectacularly unpopular with the constituents. It's a safe seat so he got in because of the party he represents, no one likes him personally and not many support his politics (I'm one of the few who do). Even within the local constituency party he's not popular. They want to deselect him.

Not everywhere is like my constituency, I appreciate. But there's plenty of places where people still vote for the party rather than the personality. The MP might be extremely unpopular, but as long as a) they're seen as better than the alternative, b) they're representing the party that 'we' always vote for, or c) the constituency is highly disaffected and thinks all politicians are the same so turnout is very low ... they'll probably still get elected.

Doesn't apply to Lee Anderson personally. I don't know hos constituency well and he might indeed be popular there. But it's not a given that just being an MP means you're popular locally.

I have just totted up if we were to just spend money on bare essentials:
Overcrowded Housing (2 adults and 2 opposite sex teens in a 2 bed) - £950
Council Tax - £250
Utility bills - £400
Home insurance - £50
Dental plan (cause we cannot get NHS in our area) - £50
2x medications a month - £20
Car insurance - £60
Petrol - £250
Road tax - £20
Mot - £2

Total - £2,052
Take home pay on an income of £32,500 with not paying into a pension - £2,291

Leaves £239 a month to feed a family of 4. No way could we do that.

The car to get to work and back only.

That doesn't include any clothing, school supplies, car maintenance, TV licence, phones, internet, kids school trips, replacement of goods like fridge, TV, hoover, oven etc which I would also consider to be bare minimums.

What planet is that guy on?

I think that they should do a TV show with him living on feeding himself for a £1 or even £2 a day for food for 6 months and see how he gets on. Scumbag!

I think in this example, 30p Lee would ask why only one salary is coming into the house.

Yes you are as that’s what I earned at one point. Give or take a few quid. Call it 1.9 if you like but the point remains the same people get by on a fuck ton less.

I'm on 33k and I bring home 1600 after all deductions.

Crikeyalmighty · 09/02/2023 14:53

@EmptyPlaces are you a Mansfield girl originally too? I was born at kings mill, lived there till I was 29, escaped after my divorce!

Thing is I think you would have to have lived there as an adult to understand the mentality of a large percentage of the population. The pits actually gave it a better structure because there were levels and professions even with the mines, electricians , engineers, developers , and lots of peripheral jobs in engineering servicing the mines- those jobs are no longer there. Being out the EU isn't suddenly going to create a plethora of well paid skilled jobs - I'm not quite sure what people were thinking.

@jackstini keep at it!! Idiots like LA are self interested twonks- just with a 'local flavour' that fools a lot of people.

HiccupHorrendousHaddock · 09/02/2023 14:54

He's a hang 'em, flog 'em eejit who blurts out any passing thought,. The BBC local radio interview showed what a vile bully he is. He won't last long.

I earn more than that but no way on earth would I live in an area that costs so much. Rents might cost 3k or 4K in some posh areas but my job excludes me from those areas. Rent is a moot point, a 10, 20% pay rise won’t fix ridiculous rents, why not concentrate on reducing housing costs rather than drop in the ocean pay rises that won’t touch the sides?

No choice, at uni and disabled so need somewhere central and easy to access on public transport. People forget that, it’s expensive being disabled.

orangegato · 09/02/2023 14:55

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 09/02/2023 14:49

I'm on 33k and I bring home 1600 after all deductions.

How TF does 2.7k gross become 1.6 net? That’s not typical. My partner earned that and hit over 2k even paying SL and pension. Either way point remains, people earn less and cope, thrive even.

gogohmm · 09/02/2023 14:56

@Fizbosshoes

Exactly as I would put. You shouldn't need a food bank but people have complicated lives. I'm a debt counsellor and people's past mistakes or dramatic changes of circumstances are the reason most of my clients are in such a difficult situation, many resorting to food banks. But if I were in government the first thing I would do is teach money management and specifically compound interest to kids at 13/14/15 because my clients are generally clueless as so how interest works! If you earn £30k, have a housing association house, no childcare costs etc you should be fine but throw in huge debt repayments and things are very different

Figmentof · 09/02/2023 15:06

No idea who he is, but isn’t it reasonable to say that nobody on £30k should need to visit a foodbank?

Figmentof · 09/02/2023 15:07

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 09/02/2023 14:49

You should check your tax code then.

Thanks4allthefish · 09/02/2023 15:16

No one on low income should be paying huge debt repayments - default and go bankrupt. Far better that than struggle for years and need food banks

Crikeyalmighty · 09/02/2023 15:20

@Thanks4allthefish as I said before, I agree in theory but depends how secure your housing situation is. A lot of peoples housing is precarious if renting privately

Fink · 09/02/2023 15:28

Figmentof · 09/02/2023 15:06

As the discussion above has shown, it may be reasonable to think that nobody on £30k should need to use a foodbank (i.e. because the economy should be such that you can afford to live on £30k), it's not reasonable to think that in the current climate many households on £30k don't actually need to use a foodbank, which is what he is implying. That if you're on £30k and need a foodbank, it's just because you're bad at budgeting or waste your money on luxuries you don't need or are trying to make a political point or are a feckless scrounger who just wants free handhouts. In fact, it's a scandal that households on £30k do need a foodbank, but it's not their fault and it's not because they're bad at managing money.

Thanks4allthefish · 09/02/2023 15:30

"In fact, it's a scandal that households on £30k do need a foodbank, but it's not their fault and it's not because they're bad at managing money."

That would be better if it sad "In fact, it's a scandal that households on £30k do need a foodbank, but it's not ALWAYS their fault and it's not because ALWAYS that they're bad at managing money."

Many people are because of their own fault and because they are crap with money

Im on 26k (NHS band 4) and take home 1600k after pension and unison costs, it seems strange if on 33k you are taking home the same unless you have a large student loan I guess.

CashierNumberSixPlease · 09/02/2023 15:41

All MPs are, by definition, popular with their constituents.

Ours isn't popular with any of his now...not since his time in rehab and his removal of the whip. He's now an "Independent" and steadfastly refuses to resign , the wanker.

As for "30p Lee" he'll be gone within 3 months.

No he’s not making the same point. Jack was a single mum on benefits and actually had to live the life they said and began making their own cheap meals out of necessity. They then starts sharing their ideas, advocating for the poor and released several cookbooks based on what you can often find in a food bank parcel. Food banks and their users have also have been given free copies or blanket permission to photocopy these recipes to get the word out to anyone that needs them.

Work camp/30p Lee can’t and won’t live what he preaches because his grift comes from hating the poor.

Hmm. I suggest you do a bit of research into JM. There is a lot of controversy around her.

Iwantmyoldnameback · 09/02/2023 17:10

If there is a high volume of Social Housing in LAs constituency then housing costs will be much lower than an area where private renting is the only alternative to home ownership.

User135644 · 09/02/2023 17:12

Funny how fickle people are. Everyone was marvelling at the Red Wall sea change a couple of years ago and Lee Anderson was one of the faces of it.

User135644 · 09/02/2023 17:21

IClaudine · 09/02/2023 11:54

His majority is not massive - 5,733. Turnout was 62% and only 39% of those voted for him. So more people voted against him than for him. Mind you, the person who came second is a big Brexiteer too.

Brexit is everything to Ashfielders.

Crikeyalmighty · 09/02/2023 17:21

@Iwantmyoldnameback There were/are vast amounts of it - but and it's big but I couldn't tell you how much has been sold off.

JusteanBiscuits · 09/02/2023 17:22

30p Lee used a worker in his office as an example.

A single female spending £124 a month on travel, which means she lives in central London.
She pays £600 "for a room". £600 for a shared room in zones 1 & 2 is cheap. Turns out she rents it from her millionaire father.

No kids. No childcare. No bills because. Well, millionaire father. She's certainly not watching roaches climb the walls...

Take a single mother nurse in London. Say she takes home £2000 a month. Rent, in even the suburbs, for a 2 bed flat is going to be at least £1500. Once bills are paid, child care, travel etc etc how much would be left for food?
