Listen to his interview with BBC radio Nottingham. The man is a liar and aggressive when challenged. How on earth was he elected in the first place. He goes on that attack when questioned about uncomfortable facts. Still says that no one on £30000 should need a food bank. Has he heard how much housing costs are, how much food and fuel prices have risen?
Sorry, cant create a link to the interview but its on the BBC news page this morning.

@IClaudine more people didn't vote against him- they just didn't vote. Of the ones that voted he had the majority vote. I feel very sorry for all right headed intelligent people who end up being represented by total fuckwits of whatever party!!

Yes, but of those that did vote, more people didn't vote for him than did. Turnout was 48,980 and his share of the vote was 19,231.

longwayoff · 09/02/2023 12:04

I'm assuming that there's another MP named Anderson and that this twat has been appointed by mistake. Honestly Tories, laughing stock doesn't begin to cover it.

IClaudine · 09/02/2023 12:05

Ooh, there are a few YABU votes. Is that you, Lee?

Xol · 09/02/2023 12:12

I wondered what the hell Sunak was thinking, till I remembered all those promises of batshit rightwing policies he made during the initial leadership campaign to try to win the votes of batshit Conservative party members, only to be out-batshitted by Truss. This can only be a desperate attempt to keep the madder wing of the party onside, but it's pointless because he can never deliver the Brexit and zero immigration that they want.

Thanks4allthefish · 09/02/2023 12:12

In a lot of cases though, the reason food banks are needed is because of decisions being made.

In general, at 30K, if you need a food bank its because you have debt / finance commitments often from when you had a higher wage.

In this case, the first thing you should do is stop making non essential debt payments. Yes your credit rating will be hit but it means you have more money to live on.

When my best friends husband left her, the first thing she did was declare herself bankrupt after securing herself a tenancy. With no debts to pay and UC credit payments, she was actually far better off even with any bankruptcy payments and despite her ex fleeing to the wind and not paying a penny for their kid. Which were only token. A year later, she was discharged and began the process of cleaning up her record.

Crikeyalmighty · 09/02/2023 12:13

@IClaudine oh I'm sorry I went from your comment that 62% turnout of which 39% voted for him- so presumably I reasoned only 23% voted for someone else

Crikeyalmighty · 09/02/2023 12:15

@Thanks4allthefish a wise move, although a pain in the arse if it's a private tenant and needed to move at all- even if discharged

2k net per month should realistically be enough as people on benefits get less? And if children they’d get Child Benefit too. Rent and bills have increased but it’s also increased for people on 15k, 20k etc…

You aren't taking home 2k once you factor in pension and student loans contribution.

But a lot less of a pain in the arse than struggling and using food banks for years

Should be but isn’t. A 2 bed flat where one of my children lives is £1,450-£1,800pcm. They need a 2 bed flat as they work from home, one being at uni still so has to stay local.

Iwantmyoldnameback · 09/02/2023 12:19

He is a vile, rude, stupid, lying bully. And Sunack is a fuckwit.

LizzieSiddal · 09/02/2023 12:20

I was listening to a R4 discussion about him yesterday. One commentator said he’s only there to appeal to the “red wall” voters, which he may well do, however he also added that he’s a liability and will get sacked one day, as he’ll go too far.

Let’s hope it’s sooner rather than later.

forageintheforest · 09/02/2023 12:20

Those on £1500 will almost certainly need food banks. That doesn't mean that people on 3000 do not.

The only theory I've read that comes close to making sense of it as a sensible strategy is that by appointing 30p Lee as the face of the right-wing of the party, it makes the right-wing of the party a much less attractive place to be. But I think that credits Sunak with too control of the situation. More likely it's a condition of the large part of the party he doesn't control.

For anyone thinking that this is appointment is scraping the bottom of the barrel, may I remind you that there's still Jonathan Gullis lurking below.

Crikeyalmighty · 09/02/2023 12:26

@DogInATent Gullis is a total fruitcake. They've got a whole smorsgabord of these total right wing weirdo misfits that Cummings said he wanted more of. ! Oh and by the way, so much for his 'I'm a salt of the earth ex miner' stuff- he was down the pit 6 months -

BigMandysBookClub · 09/02/2023 12:28

I think it was very poor judgement of Sunak.

It is interesting to see that generations going into middle age are not becoming more Conservative as they age like they used to. I think this will be the downfall of the Tories as the population ages. They are literally digging a grave for their party and will be in it for years. I for one will never vote for them again and I have voted for them a couple of times in my 40 odd years and am a floating voter. It's utter stupidity having these chodes represent our country and in positions of power. We are a laughing stock. They are so vile they turn my stomach.

Thanks4allthefish · 09/02/2023 12:30

I think its more a case of those of us who vote conservative are just learning to keep our mouths shut when asked and be non committal

longwayoff · 09/02/2023 12:31

Well at least Mr Sunak now knows one 'working class person'.

Okayyy so defend this awful man then. I am genuinely bemused.

Crikeyalmighty · 09/02/2023 11:50

@forageintheforest I'm originally from that neck of the woods. I'm afraid he is popular because he and his views are an exact replica of 70% of the males of that constituency and most of that area for 15 miles around.I feel sorry for the women in that area , when the choice isa lot of Lee Anderson's. For anyone who says I'm from that area and he doesn't represent me and my partner, be honest with yourself, maybe not you but a vast percentage of people in that area will agree with him. Of course he doesn't think £30k warrants foodbanks- it probably doesn't in that area. My son and his partner bought a lovely 3 bed semi in an ok area for £175k. You can rent a decent house for £800 a month and there are vast amounts of social housing. Try £30k living in the Home Counties because your job is in that area and rents and house prices are at least double, often triple.

Elaborate.

I'd love to know why you think this is the local men's fault specifically..... Pretty sure women have been able to vote as well for a while now.

LakieLady · 09/02/2023 12:34

ThomasWaghornsConeHat · 09/02/2023 11:11

He did sounds very aggressive in that interview. I'm not sure what kind of person votes for people who can't listen, answer or barks over someone asking uncomfortable questions. Yes everyone lies, we all know that. We don't all publicly lie while being in the public eye and set that lie up. Makes me question his intelligence.

You'd have to find his intelligence before you could question it, and that might be a bit of a challenge.

His appointment as deputy party chairman makes me think that they've reached the bottom of the barrel when it comes to MPs to appoint who'll do the ERG's bidding, and are still scraping.

His support for the death penalty is alarming, but I only recently became aware of his comments regarding travellers. Imo they were close to the threshold for incitement to racial hatred, and I'm surprised he got away with that. Imagine if someone had made comparable comments about Jewish people? There'd have been the most massive outcry, and rightly so.

Crikeyalmighty · 09/02/2023 12:37

Lee Anderson isn't a traditional Tory by the way, he's UKIP - and there were quite a few in labour too (think Hoey) he wasn't daft though , he realised the way the wind was blowing in that area , especially because of Brexit. Problem is when there are no immediate positives to peoples wallets in that area, then some voters will 'turn' and realise they were sold a pup.

BigMandysBookClub · 09/02/2023 12:40

Thanks4allthefish · 09/02/2023 12:30

Well that says a lot if nobody will admit to voting for them.

Most of the people I know who have voted Tory have said they won't vote next time, a couple have switched to Labour. One Lib Dem supporter was talking about voting Labour, but who knows? Culture war bullshit doesn't influence my vote, but some people are stupid enough to get dragged into these divisive debates, unaware that it's a distraction technique from the decimation of our living standards and economic future. And our kids as well at this rate too.

Thanks4allthefish · 09/02/2023 12:41

It's not that they won't admit it - we're just sick of the name calling and vitriol aimed at us from the left. So we keep quiet. And the polls reflect that. Until polling day when the left are shocked that so many people vote Tory.

PlinkyPlonk1 · 09/02/2023 12:45

I have just totted up if we were to just spend money on bare essentials:
Overcrowded Housing (2 adults and 2 opposite sex teens in a 2 bed) - £950
Council Tax - £250
Utility bills - £400
Home insurance - £50
Dental plan (cause we cannot get NHS in our area) - £50
2x medications a month - £20
Car insurance - £60
Petrol - £250
Road tax - £20
Mot - £2

Total - £2,052
Take home pay on an income of £32,500 with not paying into a pension - £2,291

Leaves £239 a month to feed a family of 4. No way could we do that.

The car to get to work and back only.

That doesn't include any clothing, school supplies, car maintenance, TV licence, phones, internet, kids school trips, replacement of goods like fridge, TV, hoover, oven etc which I would also consider to be bare minimums.

What planet is that guy on?

I think that they should do a TV show with him living on feeding himself for a £1 or even £2 a day for food for 6 months and see how he gets on. Scumbag!
