DH refusing to consider me getting a boarder in (short term)

Hoping to get some perspective on this as at the moment I feel annoyed that I am being told 'No' to something which doesn't outright affect him (in my opinion)

Short summary,
Husband works away, is home every 2nd weekend.
I'm a SAHM and enjoying it but not enjoying the lack of financial freedom.

I've seen an advert for short term accommodation needed in our area for seasonal workers and as we have plenty of space I thought it would be a great way for me to get a little spending / saving money.

Husband has said an outright no.
His reasoning is that he wouldn't feel safe having someone else in our house but I would only consider a female boarder in any case.

Ironically we live rurally so 90% of the time I here on my own with 2 children so if anything I would feel more safe having someone else live here!

PS, awesome husband, dad and provider in all other ways, I'm just annoyed about this!

Oh just saw your update - no way I’d do that for luxuries, I thought you meant you were struggling.

It's actually not. In 2020 the statistics were 27% women and that remained for 5 years. It's on the gov website.

How does it not affect him its his home and presumably the boarder wont be kicked out on the days he is home.

Adeleskirts · 06/02/2023 08:36

If you’re financially comfortable I don’t understand why you’d remotely consider this, having a stranger in your home with children there. I’m totally with your husband. If you want more money they you need to work. There is no easy way to get your hands on some cash.

OrderOfTheKookaburra · 06/02/2023 08:37

Do you have a good, lockable garage? You could rent out that space for someone to store a car etc? Friend of mine had an old Ferrari that he loved working on and would store it in someone's garage as he didn't have one in his house.

Although that would require them to come to your property to drop off and pick up... but better than living in the house?

27% of paedophile murderers are women?
Righty-oh

Slitherin · 06/02/2023 08:39

You could get a proper lodger, someone who stays long-term. Then you could interview/vet them properly and they would become a familiar figure to the kids.

wizzywig · 06/02/2023 08:40

I wouldn't feel 100% comfy if my husband lived with another adult female more than me. But that's my problem

lordloveadog · 06/02/2023 08:42

Get female lodger and stipulate no bringing male friends home.

Icecreamandapplepie · 06/02/2023 08:42

😂 to 27% of any type of murders being carried out by women

I said pedos / sex offenders. 😂 to you who can't read.

So you want to move the goalposts. Not interested sorry.

Oh grow up, go look at actual statistics.

Link? And this is from 2020, when men’s crimes could now be recorded as women’s?

Naunet · 06/02/2023 08:51

amberjoleaf · 06/02/2023 08:43

@tenbob here you are. 'Righty-oh'

Where does this refer to murders and child abusers?! This seems to be about general crime.

tenbob · 06/02/2023 08:56

amberjoleaf · 06/02/2023 08:43

@tenbob here you are. 'Righty-oh'

Errr, that says ‘total number of criminals’

Now show us where it says that more than 1 in 4 child raping murderers are women

Because surely you can’t assume that violent sexual criminals are as likely to be women as shoplifters?

Alexandernevermind · 06/02/2023 08:57

Myra Hindley for example. ahh yes, once in the 60 there was a female murderous csa (working with a man), there have been a couple of other since (working with men), but I'm pretty sure the other well know woman cso have been men in dresses calling themselves something like Susan.
I think a female lodger is a good idea op.

M340 · 06/02/2023 09:05

On the official MOJ website it says

125 of these are recorded as female and another 76 are known to be males who identify as womenn_. For sexual offences.

The statistic may be off in regards to 27% on sexual offences. But it still states 27% of convictions are women, who still commit crimes. Included in that will be sexual offences.

Women are so desperate to make men the awful horrible opposite sex and women can't do no wrong. It's pathetic really. The 27% may be wrong, but it's not 'vanishingly rare' as posters have said above. A quick look on MOJ website and the gov website shows that.

Why are people constantly derailing threads with this argumentative nonsense!?

Liorae · 06/02/2023 09:17

JamMakingWannaBe · 06/02/2023 06:20

I think you should look into it OP. I have had lodgers for a number of years and it's a great way to boost the household income. Mine are predominantly male medical students on rotation at the local hospital.

If they are seasonal farm workers it's likely they are going to have long working hours. They might just need your house to shower and sleep. If you have an ensuite you can offer, all the better.
Find out how long the season is as at least you know they'll be leaving at the end of it.

This thread has surprised me as the responses are the polar opposite of all the people who opened up their homes to the refugees from Ukraine - at very short notice.

I'm not saying you have to do it but you can at least find out a little more information about what's expected from a host.

There is no virtue to be signaled from a lodger.

But they can be criminals....and they can support their partners in accessing children. I'd want a DBS

emptythelitterbox · 06/02/2023 09:21

How did you end up being on a farm in a remote area but your DH doesn't even work the farm?

Is there an option to move to where your DH works?

So, you were wrong, and only 27% of ALL crimes are committed by women and you have no stats at all about the percentage of child sexual abuse and murders carried out by women??
Well when men get their crime rates down to that of women, THEN we can start shifting the focus, but for now, you look like the desperate one here.
