Sam Smith's New Music Video

There's been criticism in the press over the sexualisation/borderline pornography on the video. I've just watched it. It just seems pretty misogynistic to me. He appears to smash a wine glass onto a woman's head and then it looks as though the women are being urinated upon (although it's not clear ...maybe it was meant to be champagne). What are other people's interpretation/views on it. I may well be mistaken.

Saw it. It did nothing for me personally but nor is it any more shocking than other videos trying to shock.
I was more shocked by how crap the song is and how much weight Sam has put on in seven years. Which is sizeist, I know. I am sure he would say the same about me. I just hadn't seen him in a while and wondered, whether like me, he comfort ate in lockdown. Turns out he has a yo-yo relationship with food same as I do, poor bugger. So, if being a diva/in drag/wearing a Porter type dress makes him feel better about himself, I'm not that mithered tbh.

I didn’t like the bit where they throw the bottle at someone’s head because it was violent. It doesn’t matter what sex the person was.

Nothing else about the video bothered me to be honest. I applaud their confidence.

Kids watching the water spraying will not automatically think of golden showers FFS.

There are much worse music videos. Much worse digital content in general.

If your kids see this and think "oh my god, they're being sprayed with piss" then I would worry, seriously, about your kids have seen before this video!!!

I don't have kids but if I did I would not want them to watch this music video. The sexual imagery is explicit and unsuitable for children. If you can't see the problem then I would worry that you are too naïve to protect your children from exposure to unsuitable material. See how this works? Now stop being ridiculous.

I quite like his music but this video is covering up a pretty terrible song.

I hate all these hyper-sexualised videos - I don't care who's made them.

And I hate that they're so easily accessible to children.

There have been an lot of graphic pop videos over the years, I can't really get too het up about that aspect. I will not be watching it thought as i have zero interest in SS's music.

I think SS is a bit of a twat really, and a self-obsessed one at that.

I saw some posts on twitter saying that people don't like the fact that he's embracing his feminine side and wearing feminine clothes. I can't see anything feminine in his look or dress.

Oh, I am far far far from naive.

But there really is nothing to suggest to kids that that is piss being sprayed about. You can see the machine (? Possibly wrong word) it is being sprayed from. It's not coming from a human.

I don't like the video. It's just the usual boring trying to shock that pop stars have done for many many years. But I find Call Me Type videos that are basically only designed as wank material to be more offensive than this

Don't like the smashing a bottle on someone's head. Or the massive pink dress.

But still, whatever. I'll just not watch it.
