Sam Smith's New Music Video

There's been criticism in the press over the sexualisation/borderline pornography on the video. I've just watched it. It just seems pretty misogynistic to me. He appears to smash a wine glass onto a woman's head and then it looks as though the women are being urinated upon (although it's not clear ...maybe it was meant to be champagne). What are other people's interpretation/views on it. I may well be mistaken.

When I originally saw this thread I sort of shrugged and thought "whatever" cos I hadn't seen the video....

Well this morning, by the power of YouTube advertising this video was the first thing I saw.

And I say that as a theatrical type. And a vintage Goth with a toe in the kink scene and a very open mind.

Fuck me, what a waste of sequins. Whoever was supposed to be responsible for the "artistic vision" had too much ket on their cornflakes.....

I suppose as far as young people go, it could be used as an object lesson in poor taste all round.

And honestly who is this Sam person anyway?

Note to "them" precious self - Tim Curry did it first and better. In fact probably the best. Back to cool school for you, pouty pants. Try harder (but preferably don't - just stop).

Not how I envisaged the first five minutes of Friday morning going....

Need more tea and eye bleach.

I don't think there were any women in the video. They were all men dressed as women. I agree with the OP...the content was pornographic. It's very concerning that children will watch this video. I started a government petition entitled, 'Introduce statutory age ratings for music videos' because of this video. Please sign it because music videos will only get worse if something isn't done to curtail this rampant free-for-all.

Forget about the video. Just been inadvertently exposed to some other SS images on Twitter. This is total Emperor's New Clothes territory. The people around him are not being honest with him. It's not edgy. It's awful. Some absolutely hilarious takes on Twitter though.

I won't watch as I don't want to give that sort of thing attention, so I don't know if it is genuinely that grim. Perhaps Madonna, Myley Cyrus, Sam Smith and Rhianna could do a video together? I expect Madonna will be trying to trump Sam smiths efforts soon.

We've just got to not watch it and teach our kids that this sort if thing is desperate and attention seeking and makes you look a bit if a twat.

There will be a parody out soon and I will probably watch that instead.

OK, I caved and watched it. Though it would be worse going on what was said here.

The thing that bothered me the most was the glassing of someone at the beginning.

The pissing bit is similar to Frankie Goes to Hollywood.

Not bothered about the clothing or lack of, but dislike young people being sexualised like in the Robin Thicke video. Didn't really get that from this.

I think people have forgotten Take That's first music video. Lots of leather thongs and smearing food on each other and a woman mopping jelly off their bare arses! That was Gary Barlow for fucksake.

Agree that it isn't a strong song, so maybe the video needed shock factor.
