Please read this news story

And, if you think it's an issue, please keep reading / refreshing the story / sharing it

The longer this is kept in the public eye, the more politicians will know that it's a concern

Which of YOUR needs, rights or even “spaces” have been impacted by the current laws protecting trans people? Don’t start about prisons, we’ve done that to the death and I’m assuming you’re not in prison. YOUR needs/rights/spaces? What’s the impact been?

Holy fuck!

I have had a female family member recently released from prison.

Is that fucking close enough for you? Do you give me permission to be fucking concerned?

And you know what, you are on a FUCKING THREAD ABOUT FUCKING PRISONS!

Helleofabore · 02/02/2023 20:15

Clarabell77 · 02/02/2023 17:59

It’s called the equality act. It’s there to make sure everyone regardless of gender, race, religion and a whole range of protected characteristics aren’t subjected to discrimination.

It’s needed because unfortunately minority groups tend to be misrepresented and discriminated against in many aspects of life.

They don't, that’s just something that has been stoked up the in UK. I’ve asked a few people on here what specific rights of theirs have been affected (not prisons, none of you are in prison) - I’m still waiting.

Are you fucking serious?

Do you even read what you fucking write? So, because it is NOT us in prison, just our family members, we have NO right to fight for their needs?

Your still waiting????

I think readers can read what you have been writing. I don't think you have quite achieved what you obviously think you have.

Remember wims!!!

NONE OF US ARE ALLOWED TO FIGHT FOR THE RIGHTS OF OUR LOVED ONES AND OTHER WOMEN..... JUST ONLY IF PRISONS DIRECTLY IMPACTS US - ONLY US!

Well hospitals, toilets and changing rooms affect many of us.

I could be wrong, of course, but I actually don't think it's a troll. Too much butthurt and anger when made a fool of. And if it is, it's so exactly what the real people are like that it can serve the same purpose.

Just popped in to see if we've heard yet what the difference is between Myra Hindley and Isla Bryson which means that, while they were/are both violent, dangerous and evil criminals, Hindley belonged in a women's prison and Bryson doesn't. We're never going to find out, are we?

'Entitled to use 'your' spaces' -

debatable, under very confused law, and after 19 pages of women stating it apparently they haven't yet been clear enough: women here are done with it. Completely. No more men in women's spaces. And the politicians are picking up on the public's horror about the reality of this. Hence the current political situation.

If you're bored with women's rights (on a women's rights board) try the knitting board. Or the gardening board. It's not the job of women here to keep you entertained.

NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision · 02/02/2023 21:47

I just want to break this down for people who might not have realised exactly how manipulative, Clara is being. *Clara said "I know none of you are in prison" or something like that. Clara knows that because we currently have online access. Smartphones and laptops aren't handed out like sweets there.

So Clara is saying we are only allowed to advocate for female prisoners' needs at exactly the point we wouldn't be able to. And the moment any woman is released from her sentence and able to use mumsnet at will, she will be disqualified from speaking about her experience because she isn't on prison right then.

It's a literal Catch 22.

nilsmousehammer · 02/02/2023 21:49

I'm not quite sure who designated that poster the arbiter of all women's speech anyway.

But I continue to be disgusted by those who feel entitled to subject vulnerable women to things they themselves will never have to deal with, in order to serve an increasingly bizarre need to pander to male sex offenders. While identifying as not being out of their bloody tree.

ComfortablyDazed · 02/02/2023 22:30

Yes ^^

The rank misogyny inherent in trans rights is becoming more and more front and centre for all to see.

YouSetTheTone · 02/02/2023 22:42

Well dude, my needs/ rights/ spaces are being impacted by being used by the men who go to prison - before they go to prison.
Do you compute at all that the occasions where women require single sex spaces for reasons of privacy, dignity and safety are absolutely threatened by the ability of any man to enter them by virtue of saying they are a woman?
It’s not that hard to grasp. Go on. Try.

NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision · 02/02/2023 22:43

Next question. I am apparently not allowed to show concern for women in prison if I haven't been in prison. You're only allowed to show interest in issues that affect you directly.

Right. So, why are so many people so gripped with urgency to get trans-identifying men out of men's prisons? Does it affect you?

How many of you can be men with a trans identifying male cellmate that you're desperate to see the back of?

girlfriend44 · 02/02/2023 22:43

On question time now being discussed.

Helleofabore · 02/02/2023 22:50

”my needs/ rights/ spaces are being impacted by being used by the men who go to prison - before they go to prison.”

And after they get out!

I mean Dolatowalski is now out! Before returning to prison, that individual was in a women’s shelter !! Under a false name so no one knew Dolatowalski was there!!

Where is Dolatowalski now?

Or. Because I am not in a women’s shelter tonight, I am not allowed to be concerned about that either????

YouSetTheTone · 02/02/2023 22:56

If I ever need a women’s shelter there’s only one I’ll go to and that’s JKR’s. If I need to walk from England that’s what I’ll do, and pray there’ll be space given that every other woman who wants protection from men will be there too.

NotBadConsidering · 02/02/2023 22:56

Yes, it only takes a modicum of human decency to be concerned that Dolatowski, a man who has sexually assaulted children and used his trans identity to both gain access to women’s and girls spaces and to cover up his real identity to access a women’s refuge, is currently in the community with whereabouts unknown.

I will bet my house he will do it again.

jtaeapa · 02/02/2023 22:59

I believe that trans people belong in prisions that are specifically for them. We surely must be able to dedicate one facility in the UK to trans people - any prisoner from around the country who was trans could go there. There are several trans prisoners so I do think that this needs doing now.

NowDoYouBelieveMe · 02/02/2023 22:59

RumandSpinach · 29/01/2023 19:30

I know on MN many won't agree, but I do think there are times when a women's prison would be more appropriate.

If a transwoman has been living as a woman for years, had no prior criminal history and is going to do time for fraud I can see why they would go to a women's prison.

The two high profile recent decisions however are batshit and demonstrate a complete lack of risk assessment.

Agreed. I actually can't imagine how the trans women I know would survive a male prison... Makes me shudder to think what they would go through.

ArabellaScott · 02/02/2023 23:02

Male prisons are vast. They cater for all types of prisoner, including many very vulnerable groups. They are well equipped to handle transwomen, and there are even some specialist wings.

A wing was built and it was rejected I believe. At Downview.
