Why do people keep voting the tortes in again and again

Not wanting an argument, just wondering. Another Tory has been dismissed for dishonesty and day after day we hear of stories about people having to choose between heating and eating. Surely people realise we need a change of government? The NHS and other support services such as teachers are on strike. What next?

Voting for a Labour in local elections is voting for your council to go bankrupt. Thankfully I don't live in a red council.

Currently Kent and Hampshire county councils are heading for bankruptcy. Northampton Borough Council went bust a few years ago. All Tory. 🤷‍♀️

TooBigForMyBoots · 04/02/2023 21:19

Forget local councils, the Tories almost bankrupted the UK.🤦‍♀️

Spambod · 04/02/2023 21:44

I cannot vote for a party that hates women, girls and Jewish people. The tories are far from perfect but way better than Labour.

TooBigForMyBoots · 05/02/2023 00:17

Women's rights have been destroyed by multiple tory policies, including trans Self ID. The Conservatives under PM Johnson made it easier for Jewish Britons to be stripped of their British citizenship.

How is any party worse?

Emotionalstorm · 05/02/2023 03:02

I'll vote Tory if Boris Johnson comes back.

TooBigForMyBoots · 05/02/2023 03:08

Why?

wombat1a · 05/02/2023 06:37

Because as many have said there isn't a better alternative, the only feasible alternative is Labour which currently is worse than Tory. On the other hand Blair New Labour was a viable alternative but the LP ditched this.

In my constituency we have a conservative MP but formerly it was Lib Dem for about thirty years. Our local authority is headed up by Lib Dem's who have just squandered over £20million on new pavements and a
Fountain in our depressing and dying town. Labour have never fielded a good candidate in the constituency as I assume they think what's the point as historically we are Tory or Lib Dem.

Having always been a Tory voter for the first time ever I don't feel that I will be able to vote. This goes completely against my principals as I feel we should all vote. Don't vote can't complain is what I have always quoted to other non voters.

I am very aware though that seats in parliament are often won through people not voting as
Much as they are from those who vote.

Xenia · 05/02/2023 10:28

Do vote. I always encourage my children to vote and they always do (even if it is sometimes in their case a Green vote which is a bit of a waste but at least they are taking part in the democratic process).

I will vote Tory as Labour is worse and there are really only those 2 choices. However the high spending hig taxation Tories who are in charge are not my preference by any means.

SueVineer · 05/02/2023 11:39

To be honest a lovely chocolate torte would get quite a lot of votes from me

Florenz · 05/02/2023 12:36

I do think Boris would stand a better chance of winning a General Election for the Tories than Rishi Sunak.

That’s not saying much. Neither of them has any chance at all as far as I can see.

I thought you had an excellent Labour candidate in the last election, but instead opted for the either detached from objective reality or prepared to tell constituents lies for career progression Tory instead.

MaybeSmaller · 05/02/2023 13:40

Because they think Labour would be worse.

When I read posts like this I think some people must wilfully ignore anything the Labour Party say.

From Private Eye

Can't stand how smug Private Eye is. I would almost vote Tory just to piss off people who write this kind of stuff.

verdantverdure · 05/02/2023 13:45

MaybeSmaller · 05/02/2023 13:40

Because they think Labour would be worse.

I've only had a Labour government for a few years of my life, but on almost every possible metric you could measure it by, it was better than this >gestures at current chaos, debt, spending, public services, tax burden, inflation, strikes, potholes, child mental health, excess deaths, chance of getting an ambulance or police officer when needed<

verdantverdure · 05/02/2023 13:47

I can't quite believe we have to rely on Private Eye, Carole Vorderman and Rod Stewart to point out reality.

verdantverdure · 05/02/2023 13:51

More apt for the thread Private Eye

Why do people keep voting the tortes in again and again

If this reflects the level of intellect of the majority of voters we’re fucked for ever.

verdantverdure · 05/02/2023 17:42

I vote for the party who has the policies I think will be best for my country and our people.

Other people have different motivations. 🤷‍♀️

Florenz · 05/02/2023 18:23

Many Tory voters think the Tories are best of the country and the people. It's not a good vs evil situation as much as many Labour supporters (and some, but not all, Labour MPs) try to make it seem that way.

Xenia · 05/02/2023 19:57

The Tories are better for the country than Labour.

However there is a good chance given Labour haven ot won since 2005 that Labour might get in this time.
