Why do people keep voting the tortes in again and again

Not wanting an argument, just wondering. Another Tory has been dismissed for dishonesty and day after day we hear of stories about people having to choose between heating and eating. Surely people realise we need a change of government? The NHS and other support services such as teachers are on strike. What next?

Typical of the do what I say not what I do Labour mentality.

Floofyduffypuddy · 02/02/2023 23:21

@Florenz

Indeed... actions speak louder than word's.

The irony is that there have been many in depth threads on the issue within the party and what they neednto do. Free feedback they should be thanking God for. ....

But unfortunately the same usual suspect posters shout intelligent erudite posters down ..with inane and childish comment's.
I think this is. Reflection of what goes on in the party. It must do because they don't bloody listen!!

Well, at least the Tories have policies, I’m never actually sure Labour do. I can remember Lammey being asked on WT what Labour would do and he said his job was to oppose the government- this told me everything I needed to know.

Starmer is absent every time he thinks he needs to keep his nose clean ( no where to be seen during much of covid) always wheels out Rayner at these times like a sacrificial lamb.

i dislike unionism (see current trend).

I find the Tory party’s view on women’s rights much more in line with mine

i dislike the anti semitism

on a personal front I feel that Starmer is one of the most untrustworthy politicians followed by raynor. Yes Bo jo was grim but the grimness wasn’t really hidden.

yes life was so much better under Labour - I distinctly remember thinking that about calling an illegal war, actually it wasn’t any better under labour,

both parties are shit shows just one is more palatable than the other

What policies are you talking about? Any growth policies, because I don't know of any that the Conservatives have had since they were elected in 2010.

As for women's rights? The Tories developed the policy of removing medical assessments for transgender folk. First mooted by Maria Miller in 2015 and announced as Conservative policy by Theresa May in 2017. Since then we have seen male rapists in women's prisons, women told they weren't raped in hospital when they were, violent male offenders in women's single sex spaces, ambiguous language written into our law and education/health policies. The conviction rates for rape and sexual assault have plummeted and women no longer have any faith in the policing and justice system.

I take it you're not a fan of these policies, so what Tory view of women's rights align with yours @OMG12?

Dick brain Lammy said men can grow a cervix!!!

I ask you????

Bluekerfuffle · 03/02/2023 00:10

Lammy is one of those people you can always rely on to say something foolish or controversial.

smileladiesplease · 03/02/2023 00:14

He really is a prat

Because there has been no viable alternative in recent elections.

This. People vote for whichever they think is the least bad of the alternatives.

At this point it really is Labour's to lose.

verdantverdure · 03/02/2023 18:25

*Why do people keep voting the Tories in again and again?"

The short answer is that they believe things that are not objectively true.

dew141 · 03/02/2023 19:05

I believe we should reduce the national government to bare bones and devolve everything to individual county/city/town councils who can run things according to the requirements of the local people. "One size fits all" doesn't work in 2023, it just builds resentment towards Westminster and London.

While this sounds good in principle, it would be a disaster in our locality as the council is hopeless.

Downright dishonest about opposing housing targets. Promised they would honour the result of a local referendum on making most of our town a 20 mph zone (despite no fatalities ever having been recorded on the roads). The majority voted against it and they seem to be trying to wriggle out of their promise.

All propaganda and no substance or action. I'd take Westminster every day.

That's the ideal; in reality you've got councils that are unable to account for millions of pounds that are missing.

verdantverdure · 03/02/2023 21:51

So if you live in one of the Tory councils that are going bankrupt all your services just..end when they run out of money?

Ours isn't a Tory council, it's majority Lib Dem. Actually the local Tory candidates are decent enough.

Florenz · 03/02/2023 22:22

People would be a lot more attentive to what their local council was doing if they were doing everything and setting their own tax rates. There'd be competition between councils to offer lower tax rates and more efficient, streamlined services to attract people to live there and not somewhere else.

I agree and it's baffling.Confused

NowDoYouBelieveMe · 03/02/2023 22:53

They are either Tories and don't give a shit about others, or masochists I guess.

jamimmi · 03/02/2023 22:54

Definitely a central ground voter but after the last 10 yrs could never vote tory. Worked in NHS for years.last 10 yrs of under investment privatisation have been appalling and reduced services. The tories don't care and won't even sit down to the negotiation table in England. Tellingly both devolved nations have stopped the NHS strikes and will now pay their staff more. I striking for.the first time ever this week and am looking to move back to my home nation after 30 years.in England.

England is unfortunately full of people who have no social conscious and an I'm alright Jack mentality when it comes to voting. I'm hoping that changes next time.

Mydogatemypurse · 04/02/2023 00:03

Because they dont give a shit about others. Happy to see vulnerable people die as long as their tax and inheritance tax isnt affected. Selfish and vile to the core. Way of the world nowadays.

Thelnebriati · 04/02/2023 01:33

You tell yourself that instead of bothering to read the thread.
If Labour had a conscience, they would have made themselves electable by now. They should have walked the last 2 elections; instead there are many ex Labour voters dreading the next one.

Emotionalstorm · 04/02/2023 02:33

Because as bad as they are they are still thousands of times better than labour.

Thanks for putting one of my recurrent rants into concise, printable form.

Why do they feel no social duty to attract voters!?! Recent elections have been Labour's to lose, and they just throw the elections away.

It's like Labour politicians think it will imperil their immortal souls and doom them to an eternity in hell, if the wrong kind of voter makes a cross in a Labour box come election day.

Wandsworth council due to local Tories I think has or had low council tax rates www.mylondon.news/news/south-london-news/reason-you-pay-ridiculously-small-17767794

My local London council moved to the Tories recently (unusually for 2022!) in part I think because of conservative hindu voters - good for them.

Voting for a Labour in local elections is voting for your council to go bankrupt. Thankfully I don't live in a red council.
