Why do people keep voting the tortes in again and again

Not wanting an argument, just wondering. Another Tory has been dismissed for dishonesty and day after day we hear of stories about people having to choose between heating and eating. Surely people realise we need a change of government? The NHS and other support services such as teachers are on strike. What next?

Because Labour are hideous
All Starmer does is rant about minority groups rights
He has no interest in white people who get of their arse and work to make a lot of money
Personally I cannot vote for any party who wants rubbish like shamima begum back in the uk to be paid for by me
I just do not get it at all
When Labour get in they will have members who are equally bad
Corbyn supports Hamas and Hezbollah both terror groups
Dianne Abbot said the only thing wrong with the UK is the white people in it
I cannot vote for a party like t hat

Lol at anyone thinking Corbin or the far left have anything remotely to do with the current Labour.
it’s always been rather simple - Tories cut funding to services, prioritise wealthy chums, etc.
Labour less so, but still shit.
News at 10.

i can’t imagine believing tories would ever trickle down their privileges to the proles. Yet people fall for this every time.

the electorate design the reality we live in. I blame the electorate.
also, people just can’t keep away front he scum papers, every second web link is a rag.

OtterDisgrace · 31/01/2023 13:44

Also, people love to cut off their nose to spite their face.
They would prefer to pay for an ambulance so long as some layabout on a council estate doesn’t get it for ‘free’.
oddly they didn’t mind taking from the social money pot post ww2, but now they’re older and own a pile of bricks, they dont want to contribute anymore.

EffortlessDesmond · 31/01/2023 14:02

There is actually a spectrum of opinion within all political parties, so these diatribes against all Tories or all Socialists miss the point spectacularly. Most people fit somewhere along the middle ground. I'm well to the left of the current Tory party, and could happily vote for Tony Blair (I did, twice) and I shall probably vote for Keir Starmer, but Jeremy Corbyn was an ideologue, and a fool. But my opinion of the ERG is equal revulsion.

Abhannmor · 31/01/2023 14:20

All the selfish old fools who voted Tory and Brexit are worried Labour might get in . So they want to go abroad. But where ? Where ? All this red tape and new rules in the EU. It's an outrage.

I'm sure that ghastly Corbyn chap is behind it all.

user1498572889 · 31/01/2023 14:22

Because there is nothing better to vote for. Except Torte i would vote for Torte.

BigMandysBookClub · 31/01/2023 14:25

I would say they might have issues at the next election....

But I would like a more radical forward thinking approach from the next party, instead of trying to appeal to people with knuckle dragging, over simplistic ideologies who only understand sound bites.

This issue is all parties think these people are the only people who would vote, when there are lots of people who would vote for a much fairer system. They are worried about reform UK splitting the red/blue vote, so they both try and please those voters at the expense of common sense.

I think it's all rigged personally. Nothing ever changes.

Why Starmer if you view Labour with fear and they’d make you move?

Tbh it is bad news if loads of top tax payers go. As much as Labour do the we’ll ‘get the rich line’ and people love it, trying to fund everything from this magical Nom Dom billion - they’re not captive and other countries will welcome them

People will feel good for a minute as the nasty rich go but then there’s that tax burden…

For people saying things like "it doesn't matter which party gets in, all politicians are the same"

Your chart has been rebased to January 2009 - the headlines for January 2009 and January 2023 look remarkably similar to me:

28 Jan 2009
Britain's economy will be the hardest hit in the developed world in what is expected to be the "deepest recession since the second world war," the International Monetary Fund said today.

www.theguardian.com/business/2009/jan/28/ilo-global-unemployment-to-soar

31 Jan 2023
The UK economy will shrink and perform worse than other advanced economies the International Monetary Fund has said.

Some people have blamed Brexit for today's IMF forecast - I therefore conclude that Labour 'messed up' all by themselves in 2009.

Of course it is Corbyn. He also trashed the economy like we said he would! 😂

Thank god hardly anyone liked him and we didn’t find out

I havent read the whole thread. But it didn't take long to deflect to labour 🤣🤣
Its like being back at school.
Becauae you can't align yourself with Labour doesn't mean you automatically vote tory, you only vote tory if you can align yourself with them, or you are a little bit silly.

At least the money would have been spent on the people of this country, instead of a handful of very wealthy people though.

You forgot about the mini budget and the billions wasted there already then....

tiggergoesbounce · 31/01/2023 14:39

Our staunch tory voting relatives are disgusted with how the Tories have conducted themselves.
They would not vote Tory again any time soon,. While i disagree with alot of my families views at least they have they can look at it now and acknowledge their mistake and be honest about it.
Not all this but..but..but corbyn wasnt nice !!!

With Corbyn? Did you vote for him?

Because there has been no viable alternative in recent elections.

This, though I would never vote Tory. Unfortunately I fear Labour are even worse. There is not one party worth voting for. The whole political system is crap. Starmer and Rishi are both unelectable. We are so screwed.

Surprising result -

12 Jan 2023 -
The Bank of England has trousered £3.8bn in profits from ditching bonds it hoovered up to stem financial chaos caused by Liz Truss’s calamitous mini-budget, the central bank told City A.M.

The Bank announced today it has ditched all the £19.3bn of gilts purchased last autumn to stabilise the UK debt market.

Governor Andrew Bailey and co will not pocket the profits themselves. Instead, the earnings will flow to the treasury.

radrado · 31/01/2023 14:59

Labour seem to hate women. Awful bullying and Starmer is weak and won’t stand up to it. I am fearful of the shitshow that will happen if they get in. I’m in Scotland and SNP are a nightmare, like a cult and thus will not listen to voters.

so conservative it was for me.

shinynewapple22 · 31/01/2023 15:02

Crimeismymiddlename · 29/01/2023 19:07

This is a short sighted question, what you should be asking is why Labour-or any other option is not giving a viable, better alternative.
Labour have been a disgrace and fundamentally do not understand that the voting public just want to live well, to feel safe, for services to be decent and my personal pet peeve for there not to rubbish absolutely everywhere.
I would vote for a party that was honest about what they can, and can’t realistically provide, was pragmatic about what was being cut and actually wanted the country to be a great place to live. Labour are not that party.

I think this is a good point .

What I see is not people who are voting Tory but people who are so disillusioned that they do not vote at all .

And I know very few people to whom trans-issues or private schooling even register.

But what’s the alternative? It’s basically Conservative or Labour. I am actually left of centre but will not vote in the shit show of Labour women haters. I voted Labour previously

Trans issues is a huge thing in Scotland at the moment what with the putting trans sex offenders in women’s jails. Everyone is talking about it and I don’t move in particularly political crowds!

Pinky1011 · 31/01/2023 15:13

Because labour aren't any better. Maybe the green party if they ever had a chance of winning. But what is the alternative? Tories are shit, but labour is super shit.

radrado · 31/01/2023 15:17

Green? Are you joking?’

Fair enough @radrado . We all move in different circles - and I have appreciated these things are big on MN - just not amongst my acquaintances. I don't live in Scotland though .
