She has a Gucci belt, but lives with her parents

New mum in the mums group, seems a bit up her own bum about designer labels and clothes etc. She’s often a bit sneery and definitely does that withering looking you up and down type of thing.
Her, m her Dh and kids, live with her parents in a big house, she dives their spare Land-rover car and they pay her dc’s school fees.
Aibu to think she’s got a bit of a nerve to act high and mighty when none of it is her money and the rest of us earn money to pay our own mortgages, bills and cars and therefore maybe don’t own a Gucci belt 🙈😅

So what did you intend?

For everyone to jump in and bully a woman that they’ve never met just because OP says they “seem” a certain way and keep looking at her….meanwhile OP is openly being a judgmental bitch.

RobbynZ · 25/01/2023 07:06

Next time she looks you up and down ask her why she is doing it. Something like “oh, is there something on my dress, I’ve noticed you looked me up and down”.

HiccumsDictum · 25/01/2023 07:09

I judge people by their shoes. If they are a bit naff,, or they are too round at the front, I don't want to be friends with you.

LaLuz7 · 25/01/2023 07:12

She's pathetic. But don't tell her that.

Nothing more amusing than people who try to flash their caviar budget when they can barely afford beer and they they are fooling anyone. Pathetic and sad.

Mygirlruby · 25/01/2023 07:14

Iamthewombat · 24/01/2023 21:56

Why do you even care?

It sounds like you're a teeny bit jealous and outraged at her lifestyle, but really, just let her be. Who knows what's going on in her life behind closed doors. The best thing, although it's hard to do, is to be nice, kind, friendly towards her as you'd be to anyone else in the group.

Militarywife7 · 25/01/2023 07:15

I think the take home point here is, she’s telling you she lives with her parents, uses their car etc if she was high and mighty I would presume she wouldn’t disclose all this, and perhaps she’s trying to make friends? Some women can appear to look bitchy, but when you get to know them they’re not. It sounds like you’re the one doing all the judging on her lifestyle.

What’s pathetic and sad if you judging someone based on a tiny bit of second hand information. You know nothing about her life or her finances and let you leap to the insults.
Actually says more about you love ✌️

Aprilx · 25/01/2023 07:20

You sound a bit high and mighty yourself OP.

I'm taking what OP said at face value and going by that.

People who try to project a fake image of prosperity by prioritising labels over essentials (the buy the gucvi belt then eat instant noodles for a month type) are immature and sad. They just are. I stand by what I said.

Cosycover · 25/01/2023 07:25

I assume all gucci belts are fakes. Tacky AF

HappinessDragon · 25/01/2023 07:25

Would you think differently if you found out the reason she lives with her parents is because she has a life threatening illness and she needs the help with her children?
You really don’t know much about her apart from the things you’ve decided you don’t like about her.
If you don’t like the way she looks at you, spend less time looking at her and then you won’t notice.

She eats instant noodles to pay for her belt? How do you know that?

You aren’t taking anything at face value though, you’re making assumptions.
The woman lives with her parents and sometimes drives their car … that doesn’t mean she’s projecting anything.
They might have jointly bought the house, the woman may have funded it more, maybe the parents can’t maintain their bigger house and their daughter pays the bios and maintains it so they don’t have to sell. You actually have no idea.

Where on earth are you getting that she prioritised a Gucci belt over essentials like food?

She lives in a massive house, has access to an expensive car, probably has easy childcare from her parents, has kids in private school and wears expensive clothes. Sounds like she isn’t likely to be scrimping on essentials at all, probably has quite a nice life and therefore people feel the need to infer all sorts of things in a desperate attempt to feel better than her.

What a bizarre assumption to make. They’re £300 not £30,000. It’s hardly inconceivable that people buy them.

@Hoppinggreen Not judging for flashing the cash, have no issue with that, know plenty of people who have lovely things. I just don’t like the awful up and down looks given to people and clear judging if you don’t have said Gucci belt/designer bag/special shoes…

That's your problem though. You are allowing yourself to feel judged. That's what you need to work on, there is no need for that. I personally wouldn't think that Gucci is lovely thing, it's not to my taste, clearly you are a bit jealous of her though. You need to care less about randoms.

BellePeppa · 25/01/2023 07:49

Not sure what impact this has on you or any of the other mums. Why do you care? It seems like a shrug of the shoulders kind of situation to me. Not worth thinking about really.

Choconut · 25/01/2023 07:51

Gotta love MN, OP thinks she being judged by someone, everyone jumps on OP saying how judgey she is herself, whilst completely ignoring the fact that they are being just as judgey (of the OP) themselves.

You should have seen that coming a mile off OP, it's typical MN!

That’s exactly what I was thinking, but I couldn’t decide if it was a sort of country honky-tonk vibe, or a Tim Minchin satire on consumerism.

Hmm. Both could work. I'm just trying alternative versions out in my head 😄

@Butwhytho Def not jealous..! Just don’t like the snobbery, when it’s not her money even. It’s not nice to look people up and down and place value on the belts they do or don’t have

@Shallowshallowness You are literally judging her on her possessions! Which may or may not be gifts. And are zero business of yours.

You sound very jealous and not even sure why you felt the need to comment on this woman. Unpleasant.
