She has a Gucci belt, but lives with her parents

New mum in the mums group, seems a bit up her own bum about designer labels and clothes etc. She’s often a bit sneery and definitely does that withering looking you up and down type of thing.
Her, m her Dh and kids, live with her parents in a big house, she dives their spare Land-rover car and they pay her dc’s school fees.
Aibu to think she’s got a bit of a nerve to act high and mighty when none of it is her money and the rest of us earn money to pay our own mortgages, bills and cars and therefore maybe don’t own a Gucci belt 🙈😅

This person was me a few years ago. I moved back to my parents with my DC, drove their land rover at times and probably was wearing Gucci belts and similar. I was probably accused of looking people up and down the wrong way at the time and I may have came across as bitchy.

The truth was I was going through an extremely hard break up, and the years of emotional abuse had left me guarded and a shell of the person i once was.

You don't know the reason for her living situation and maybe if you gave her a chance without judging her, you may really like her.

Thatboymum · 25/01/2023 00:45

Thank you for reminding me why I don’t and never will go to these mum groups and not because of a fellow designer clothes wearer who is by no means a snob or would judge you for the label on your clothes , but because of you and your judgey bitter attitude.

Zola1 · 25/01/2023 00:56

Why is this anything to do with you?

Its weird on here sometimes.. like I say to my 13yo, just worry about yourself.

Thedogscollar · 25/01/2023 01:12

This surely cannot be genuine. It's like the twilight zone on here sometimes.
Whining about a designer belt and how she looks at you up and down.
Your post is as shallow as your username.

MargotMoon · 24/01/2023 23:17

Be the bigger person

But then she might not get a Gucci belt to fit.

pollyglot · 25/01/2023 04:30

Comfort yourself that she might have a Gucci belt, but demonstrates a lack of class by her manners.

Ericaequites · 25/01/2023 04:33

At many private schools, the worse dressed parents often have the most money. They just don’t care about labels and conspicuous consumption.

Bigweekend · 24/01/2023 22:01

How do you known the parents aren't living in her house or they didn't pool resources to buy jointly?

Why does any of it matter to you?

This. She sounds like a dick, but then so do you. You're both quite judgy so interesting you don't get along better - or maybe that's why you do! 🤭

MyMumSaysALot · 25/01/2023 05:04

I have two Gucci belts. They were birthday gifts back in the ‘80s - are you going to look down your nose at me, too @Shallowshallowness?
Perfect username, btw.

MiddleParking · 25/01/2023 05:09

A few years ago you could hardly move for Gucci belts, it felt like everyone I knew posted them on Instagram - I’m talking mostly people my age so then in their early twenties. Some real saved up for or bought by parents for Christmas etc, some fake. Either way there’s a lot of them gathering dust in wardrobes now so good for her on the sustainability front (for the belt if not for the Land Rover).

yorkshireteapots · 25/01/2023 05:10

I would judge her for having a tacky Gucci branded one- they're too ubiquitous. Far better to have something more understated like Hermes or Cartier Grin

sjxoxo · 25/01/2023 05:22

Eeek op this has backfired! I don’t think you can call someone else snobby when you’re judging them on a Gucci belt, private school fees and a landrover…!!! Bitchy much. X

Shallowshallowness · 24/01/2023 22:46

Ok, don’t think my post came off as intended at all 🙈
Some nasty replies, bowing out now, I’m obviously to blame 🤷🏻‍♀️😫

Perhaps it's time to belt up!

ShandaLear · 25/01/2023 05:51

You’re giving this far too much brain space. She’s not doing anything wrong. Just leave her alone if you don’t like her, and stop bitching about her on here.

vodkaredbullgirl · 24/01/2023 22:10

The belt could be a knock off.

This! My daughter went on a trip to China and returned with “Gucci” belts for four of her friends.

Kitkatcatflap · 25/01/2023 05:55

'Dirty Looks'. The huge 60's/70's perceived insult. Nothing actually said but you make a judgement on an expression. Even as a child that one made me laugh

yousmellnice · 25/01/2023 06:20

If she's looking at you up and down maybe she's into fashion and trying to see the whole outfit. This sort of thing doesn't help my social anxiety tbh as I struggle to look people in the eye sometimes so now I have another thing to worry about.

Swiftswatch · 25/01/2023 06:23

The thing is, you can’t actually say one thing she has specifically said or some that is judgmental or ‘made people feel like shire’ other than owning a Gucci belt apparently??
Which is just her own choice and not a slight on anyone who doesn’t have one.
Honestly this just all seems in your head!

Why is it so bad for her to live with her parents? How do you know she’s actually spending their money? Does her husband work? Perhaps her parents will need her to be a carer soon and it just makes sense.

Iwantabloodypizza · 25/01/2023 06:28

Fuck me, if my dad had a spare land rover going, a house big enough for all of us and enough cash to pay for my children to go to private school, I would bite his hand off.

Good luck to her and her Gucci belt! She’s got her head screwed on and from the sound of it, great parents to do all that.

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 25/01/2023 06:28

You sound worse than her OP.

TerfOnATrain · 25/01/2023 06:33

My daughter wore a Gucci belt when she lived at home. It was a fake that a friend brought her back from Dubai.

all that glitters is not gold.

wibblewobbleball · 25/01/2023 06:34

Stop counting other peoples money and concentrate on your own life instead.

FlibbertyGibbitt · 25/01/2023 06:44

Embarrassing Op. Green eyed monster ?

Tiffan · 25/01/2023 06:53

New mum hoping to make friends
Puts on her best clothes even though she's feeling a bit shit and tired
Looks around when she comes in and tries to work out who is going to be friendly to her
Tells other mums about her life in the hope that being open she might make some friends because.. well.. she's tired and feeling a bit shit and lonely and sometimes over does it with new people in order to feel less tired and lonely

Gets judged as sneery and withering.

Right.

astarsheis · 25/01/2023 06:58

Well to make you feel better...Gucci belts are a bit naff now...mine's up for sale if you want one a bit cheap.
