She has a Gucci belt, but lives with her parents

New mum in the mums group, seems a bit up her own bum about designer labels and clothes etc. She’s often a bit sneery and definitely does that withering looking you up and down type of thing.
Her, m her Dh and kids, live with her parents in a big house, she dives their spare Land-rover car and they pay her dc’s school fees.
Aibu to think she’s got a bit of a nerve to act high and mighty when none of it is her money and the rest of us earn money to pay our own mortgages, bills and cars and therefore maybe don’t own a Gucci belt 🙈😅

I love it how whenever MN discusses an adult man who lives with his parents, they're assumed to be lazy immature losers. Yet when it's a woman, MN jumps to assume the most flattering scenario. "Oh she must be caring for them/being sensible with finances/maybe it's her own home" etc.

It's funny how skewed perspectives are.

Well aside from the disproportionate amount of women compared with men who actually are carers, which would to an extent account for that thinking, its not the case on this thread is it, given her husband also Iives with her parents? I haven't seen a word of criticism directed at the man in this scenario. Nice try though!

Fair point

Good shout actually.

Surrey being snobby is the issue, even if it was money she had made herself still doesn't make it acceptable or nice to be around.

Frlrlrubert · 25/01/2023 12:16

I'm imagining the new mum turning up to the 'posh school' in her Gucci belt and looking around and realising she is out of date/overdressed trying to scope of everyone else outfits to figure out the 'dress code'.

I think I'll stick with my state school mums who don't give a fig if you're on your way to work, or a dog walk, or even coming off a night shift and in you tracksuit!

Also images of the day my six year old was overtired and got upset because the dog was 'looking at her' and it was 'rude'.

Kennykenkencat · 25/01/2023 12:49

I have met this type of woman before.

Where I am from it was called “All fur coat and no knickers”

The problem is that this woman will Wendy her way into a group and someone who she doesn’t think has her kind of style will get Wendied

As for state schools. They are
not immune from this type of going on.

Friend who sent her dc to a different school to me asked after a couple of months if any other parent had spoken to me at the school gate as she felt like she was deliberately being ignored and felt very isolated.

During the Christmas break friends car which was very very old broke down
She decided to get herself a new car on lease.

Back at school it was noted she had a new car and another mother came up to her and said that everyone would speak to her now she had a new car.

I don't have a problem with either.

Gosh another one of you who knows the women in the OP! Was the post that outing? Can’t believe how many of you know her.

Yeahrightthen · 25/01/2023 13:16

Gucci belts are like £300.

It’s hardly a sign of being mega-wealthy is it?

Maybe ask yourself why you feel so threatened by her op?

I have designer stuff and buy it because I like it and it usually means I don’t have the exact same stuff as everyone else. If I thought people were assuming I’m a snob or had my priorities wrong I’d probably just think “get a life” and laugh about it!

Icannoteven · 25/01/2023 13:18

Oh my goodness. Perhaps it was a present. Perhaps she lives with her parents because they need care / she likes being around them…. 1000 possible reasons! You sound so incredibly mean.

That's a lot of stuff this unknown woman hasn't done.

knittingaddict · 25/01/2023 13:21

That is very similar, but I'm very sure that it was way before Oct 2022. Perhaps the op posts regularly about things like this.

TeachesOfPeaches · 25/01/2023 13:22

Probably got it in Turkey for £3.

Can’t read? You love a big jump into a conclusion don’t you dear 😂
Your previous post started “I’ve met this type of woman before”
Therefore insinuating you know exactly what type of women she is. To know that, you must’ve met her. Otherwise, how would you know?

4thonthe4th · 25/01/2023 13:25

TeachesOfPeaches · 25/01/2023 13:22

Or just paid £300-£380 like most people :/ it’s hardly a 7 figure sum. Perfectly doable for a lot of people. People also receive gifts. I find it bizarre how many people on this thread seem to assume absolutely nobody can afford a leather belt. Weird.

Tessasanderson · 25/01/2023 13:26

Annabel073 · 25/01/2023 09:24

People like what? They may have built up and sold a multimillion pound business and own the house that the parents live in. We only know the story the OP has decided to tell.

People like the OP has described. People like the example you described. Any people that for some reason you or the OP dont particularly like. My point was a generalisation to show that by not giving a toss, their relevance whether appreciated or not dissapears.

I dont give a shit if someone inherits, earns, or whatever they do to get their money and housing. I was trying to direct the OP away from even being bothered about it.

But ok, get your dig in eh

Can never go wrong minding your own business

BellePeppa · 25/01/2023 13:28

When someone looks me up and down I always start looking up and down too and say , “what? have I got something on me?” It’s a weird (rude) thing some people do.

Annabel073 · 25/01/2023 13:29

@Tessasanderson OK, thank you for explaining. I apologise.

Puppers · 24/01/2023 22:27

Aside from these "looks", has she actually said anything that has led you to believe she is judging your clothes?

My thoughts too. You seem very involved with someone who you don’t like or talk to. Why don’t you just ignore her?

We are not assuming people can't afford it. We are assuming that few people are daft enough to spend £300 on a leather belt just because of the label...
