To see a psychic

TwentysixV · 23/01/2023 23:18

I’ve never believed in anything supernatural, am a scientist. I recently read a book where the main character went to see a psychic and it got me thinking. I read some reviews of a local one online and most of them were positive saying she was extremely accurate, mentioning specific names etc. she charges £40 which I can easily afford. I want to go partly out of curiosity and partly because I’ve been single all my life and want some reassurance that everything will be ok/I’ll meet someone in the future.
interested to know if anyone has any experience with going to see a psychic and if they were accurate or a total waste of time. And also what “reading” am I after-is it tarot cards or is there another name for where they basically tell you about your situation and what they think the future has in store for you.
I’m not that interested in replies saying it’s all a load of rubbish from people who have never been to a psychic though!
any insight would be interesting

I've never been to one. When my mum was pregnant in the fifties she saw a psychic who told her the child she was carrying would be severely disabled. He was.

donttellmehesalive · 24/01/2023 13:53

IME recollections vary.

One of the times I accompanied a friend, she was told that she would have two children. She had one so it was a good guess.

Now, twenty years later, when she tells the story, it has become something far more specific. She has literally tailored her memory of those events to make the psychic seem more accurate. She has also forgotten all the bullshit that was wrong. I don't embarrass her by reminding her that I was there, but it's an odd phenomena I think, wanting to believe.

Yup. My mother used to tell awestruck tales of a remarkably accurate 'reading' she'd had as a newly-wed in the early 70s -- details of number of children, sex, name, birth order etc etc. Of course, in the last few years, when a written account of the 'predictions' by my aunt showed up at the bottom of an old handbag in the attic, it was the usual farrago of cold reading, lucky guesses, and vagueness.

KettrickenSmiled · 24/01/2023 14:45

@SpanishOnion agree with every word, but am actually posting to thank you for "farrago", which had been temporarily missing from my internal lexicon. Bloody marvellous word! 😂Flowers

What's your scientific discipline?

Cosycover · 24/01/2023 14:49

I have been to 3. 2 or them were absolutely at it. Told me I was up for a promotion when I didn't even work at the time. But the last man I seen was incredible. He told me something I'd never told anyone. I'd never even said it out loud. There is no way he could have ever guessed. He made me believe that some must be true.

EmmaEmerald · 24/01/2023 14:50

OP obviously everyone has a different experience

Generally I like to keep my money. I did have an extraordinary experience with a psychic a long time ago...the intervening 20 years having proven the long term points she made.

I think the thing is, you will most likely just be paying an entertainer. And will you be upset if you get told there's no partner in your future?

Media Studies.

GoodChat · 24/01/2023 14:54

You know that it's not real. They're good at guessing then basing their next guess on your reaction to their first.

The person who said they were told it'll all work out ok but not immediately- well we all say that...

Puffin87 · 24/01/2023 15:04

There are plenty of free tarot readings on youtube. Just search your starsign. I listen to them to sleep as background noise.

Someone I worked with during the pandemic (but had never really spoken to) did readings for us one night during a shift.

She knew exactly which part of a different country my grandfather was from (definitely not online), things about the religion I was brought up in, and something bad that had happened. She said I'd have a very hyper daughter later. Haven't had children yet, so will see...

TarasHarp55 · 24/01/2023 15:11

Lots of scientists are believer's.

xogossipgirlxo · 24/01/2023 15:12

Most of them don't have a gift, it's just easy money for them. But you never know. If you can afford losing 40 quid, go for it.

mumda · 24/01/2023 15:16

You're confused and troubled by things you don't understand.

I've drawn you three cards

  1. XX The Sarcophagus - You perhaps feel something is unfinished, but it will soon be over.
  2. 6 Cups - approval / love affair (with capricorn?)
  3. VIII The balance - unbalance can cause you problems, be calm. Do not be angry.

There. That's saved you a trip out.

Puffin87 · 24/01/2023 15:16

I also had a reading that said I would go to an important meeting in a tall, glass building to resolve an issue. That someone at the meeting would be pregnant.

I sued a company and the court hearing was in a tall, glass building. At the final hearing the lawyer for the other side informed the judge she was pregnant. The issue was resolved after that.

You can be a logical person and spiritual or religious.

KTheGrey · 24/01/2023 15:16

@RustySwitchblade
So if you know which were accurate, why don't you go to them all the time?

My friend's SIL used to do this, and she swore up and down this one was always right. So the friend and I went along as well and I don't think either of us was told a single thing that was right! But as entertainment I found it quite good.

Roselilly36 · 24/01/2023 15:27

Do it OP, I have seen a few over the years. Some better than others. See someone who is recommended, or someone at your local Spiritualist Church.

It’s very interesting, so many people rubbish it, but they probably haven’t even been. I always find it strange to have an opinion, on something you haven’t experienced.

It can be very emotional, so be prepared for that. I don’t go on a regular basis, would happily go again.

I agree 100%. Btw. creepy😁Did you get scared when you saw the pregnant judge and you realised reading was true?

OMG @mumda !!!

I came back to this thread & it's like you knew I'd be reading your post.
Thank you!!!!

Your cards are uncannily accurate to my situation.
There is NO WAY you could have guessed that I have some unfinished business, certainly not that anyone would ever love or approve of me, & unless you've been stalking some of my, erm, more ... intemperate posts, how on earth could you have divined that anger is bad, calm is cool?

It's UNCANNY. Are you a witch?
I am really spooked, but also have a weird compulsion to send you £40.
pm me your bank details. I must have more of these specifics.

I've never experienced the planet Mars, but I have some very strong opinions on it.

@KettrickenSmiled Treat the capricorn in your life to whatever it is they mentioned the other day. :)
