To be angry over a name

My baby is 6 months old and we named her a very uncommon name that was special to us. Recently we met an old friend of my husband's, they are still in the same circle but not close friends anymore. He asked us the usual questions about a new baby including her name. He and his partner had a baby in the last few days and called their baby our daughters name.
He did not mention anything about her name when we told them it and I am feeling irrationally angry that they have used our daughters name.

Two halves of family names?

I really want it to be BarbaBeth. Or MarjLeen. LeenMarj. AlisTrace. SharTrac.

I'm not going to sleep now.

I was going for Sheilarbara.

Her name is Renlea after her two grandmothers. Half of each name.

Isn't that a game of thrones character?

Oysterbabe · 22/01/2023 20:22

Its a bit Twilight.

Galadriel90 · 22/01/2023 20:22

Hmmmmmmmm.

This is fun

Yes annoying if they heard your made up name from asking your baby's name and copied it in - such a small town. Still it'll be obvious they copied you 😕

@RobertaFirmino did you forget your fada?

Yes! Will repeat appropriate amount of Hail Marys!

JustDrama · 22/01/2023 20:26

I'd be pissed off as well. It your DD is older so it's obvious where it's come from. If anyone mentions it tell them it's was copied from you.

Tiani4 · 22/01/2023 20:27

Sorry cross posted
Renlea

Yeah that's not even a name
They completely copied your new baby's name
W>>kers

Tiani4 · 22/01/2023 20:28

*yeah that's not even an existing name, I meant

LottoLaura · 22/01/2023 20:28

I highly doubt it’s an actually unique name

so YABU

But you had a baby 6 months ago, you’re allowed to be a bit bat shit

Enko · 22/01/2023 20:28

I was going to say YABU until I saw the name. They have clearly copied and I get why that bothers you. Sadly nothing you can not say much. Everyone will know they copied as your dd is older. So YANBU but one of those you will need to swallow.

Pretty name though :)

I like Zarron 😆 Thankfully though I can’t inflict it on any one as I’m old and done having babies.

Themind · 22/01/2023 20:29

Well done for being the 85th person who thought their kids name was theirs to own..............next.

Thepossibility · 22/01/2023 20:29

I would be annoyed, you actually did come up with a unique name and they used it. Their baby is pretty much the same age as yours so it's even more annoying.
I usually agree that no-one owns a name but in this case I think you kind of do.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 22/01/2023 20:30

This is clearly made up because nobody would call a child that, let alone two families.

MichelleScarn · 22/01/2023 20:31

It's been about since at least 1940....

TolkiensFallow · 22/01/2023 20:31

Yeah…given the made up name you can feel copied.

Is it Balonz?

Still makes me laugh every time. 😆

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 22/01/2023 20:33

It will legitimise your choice. Maybe they’d been combing the 1940 US census.

2023WeAllNeedToTalk · 22/01/2023 20:33

I understand how you feel, it’s annoying when you have an unusual name for your child and it’s copied.
However, now you have written the name on mumsnet there may end up being a lot more Renlea in the world!

TrentCrimm · 22/01/2023 20:34

It sounds a bit like a lactose free cheese.

Sleepless1096 · 22/01/2023 20:35

At least you know they really actually liked it and weren't just being polite. Makes a change from all the insincere "what a lovely and... unique... name" comments you generally get if you name your child something a bit out there, when really the person you're speaking to is thinking "wtf...poor bubba".

Harrysmummy246 · 22/01/2023 20:35

DH cousin has named their second Ds same name as ours. Special to the family. What's more strange is both his wife and I have the same name too

PaulRobinsonsSeventhWife · 22/01/2023 20:36

How very dare they. Speak to your lawyer first thing tomorrow morning.

Fluffluff · 22/01/2023 20:37

You can't change this situation so don't worry.
It's a compliment
