Boys don't wipe after peeing?

HeartofAss · 22/01/2023 16:04

My 6yo just confidently informed me that girls wipe when they wee or poo, whereas boys only wipe when they poo.

Is this true? GROSS.

Not sure whether I should be telling him he is wrong?

Never ever ever understood why anyone teaches their little boys to pee standing up, making a mess, shaking it etc.
Why on earth don't you train them to sit down & wipe? 🤷🏻‍♀️

I agree. Most men in my life pee sitting down.

LisaLovedUp · 22/01/2023 16:59

This is why men need to wear clean boxers or Y fronts daily.

I guess you could offer than a male version of a panty liner, though.

LisaLovedUp · 22/01/2023 17:00

You know some weird men.

This is not the norm.

Most men's loos only have 1 or 2 cubicles for poos. Men stand up to wee.

AnonWeeMouse · 22/01/2023 17:02

Wiping a penis that has a foreskin can strip away natural lubricants that are necessary to stop bacteria and infections.

VenusClapTrap · 22/01/2023 17:03

The men and boys in this household wee sitting down too. I don’t think it’s weird. It’s far cleaner.

Thesonglastslonger · 22/01/2023 17:05

This is why men’s loos stink, they shake their willies dry and either don’t know, or don’t care, that this spatters urine around the room which doesn’t magically clean itself.

There’s a stain on my downstairs loo paintwork that can only be from male guests doing this 🤢🤢🤢

Ember90 · 22/01/2023 17:09

Of course boys don’t wipe!

I'm surprised you find it weird?!

Not only is it easier foe men to fully empty their bladder (especially once they're middle aged) but it's a lot more hygienic!

QueSyrahSyrah · 22/01/2023 17:10

@LisaLovedUp Lots of Men change what they do depending on the circumstance.

DH will always sit when there's the option to sit (in our or someone else's home) but stands when there isn't (often in public toilets, either because the cubicles are busy or disgusting).

Not that this comes up in regular conversation, but I know at least a few male friends or relatives do the same.

Pinkdafodils · 22/01/2023 17:14

Yes. Obviously if there's only a urinal, they have to stand. But at home, in a nice clean bathroom, they sit down - much more hygienic and comfortable.

@piliomachaon exactly! People provide paedo fodder on here at the drop of a hat.

It's the posters only post and the user name if you search it doesn't come up so has already been changed..

TheGuv1982 · 22/01/2023 17:16

you shouldn’t need a wipe, who ever mentioned a toothpaste tube further up has it right - but then everyone’s body has differences so maybe people need different methods.

Potentialscroogeincognito · 22/01/2023 17:32

I’ve taught my son to dab/ wipe the end when done to prevent dribbles. He’s still little enough that he sits down to wee… it’s gross otherwise!!

LisaLovedUp · 22/01/2023 17:34

There is no evidence AT ALL that it helps bladder emptying.
My DH is old and with an enlarged prostate. I am sure his consultant would have suggested this if it was best.

I do not know one man at all who wees sitting down.

Only on MN have I heard it.

I think it is possibly cultural.

Who potty trained him? How has this just come up now?!

This… have you never once taken your 6yo to the toilet OP????

Wait, don’t you wear clean pants every day?

LikeTearsInRain · 22/01/2023 17:37

Well at urinals yes they don’t have toilet roll next to them. At home you could inform him to take a square and give it a dab.

Emmamoo89 · 22/01/2023 17:38

Yabu just shake

MugginsOverEre · 22/01/2023 17:40

My husband and son wipe. Or dab.

My friend told me a story that stuck with me. Her bathroom had developed a weird yellow "mould" or something like that which kept reappearing. It was on the walls and windowsill. She used bleach to clean it off but it kept coming back.

She was in the bath one day when she found it was just her husband's urine from his shaking. Yep. Just flinging splashes of piss around the room every time he went without a care in the world. She assumes it must have been her two sons too because the yellow "mould" was a lot.

DonnaBanana · 22/01/2023 17:45

The women’s toilets never smell for this reason. I have never been in a toilet that smelled to be fair, nor do I need to change my underwear more than once or twice a week. Men are a bit ew.

Is it really just to follow social norms?

We did! But then he went to school…..

People will never learn. Such naivety is worrying especially on a parenting forum.
