I do a bit like even today I’m thinking right what shall we do today and it’s so cold

Yes!
I have been poorly with back to back virus’ since December 5th.

Christmas and New Year was absolutely wiped out and I’ve either been incubating a cold/suffering a heavy cold/chest infection, recovering, or suffering again since then.

I am so sick of feeling poorly.
Rain and cold weather has driven me crazy but there’s blue sky today so I’ll rise from my bed and try to take a little walk.

I hate winter. Makes me fed up and very low in mood. Weepy at the slightest thing and all I want to do is sleep. (I think I get SAD anyway : Seasonal Affected Disorder)

Bulbs are pushing up in my garden so roll on Spring!

Yes I always struggle with the dark and the cold. I’m always counting down how long is left of winter. I have permanently painful toes and fingers in winter. Worse this year due to the heating costs resulting in not having it on in the day. I always feel like I want to hibernate through winter.

user12653085 · 21/01/2023 10:24

Yes, I can't get out of bed, everything aches and I have zero motivation. I would like to hibernate until April!

OoooohMatron · 21/01/2023 10:24

Yes. My knees hurt, it's harder to get up in the morning, It's harder to keep my son off the xbox, my car broke down. Roll on summer.

Unicorn2022 · 21/01/2023 10:59

Yes I do, it seems particularly cold this year though, but I probably say that every year.

I am so conscious of the cost of heating at the moment so the house doesn't feel as cosy and warm as normal. Very hard to get motivated when it's so cold and dark.

Walterwhiteswifey · 21/01/2023 11:02

Don't hate me but I absolutely love Winter, it's my favourite season. Currently sat with my hot water bottle and slippers on infront of the fire. It's so cosy and also so pretty looking out at the frost. Best time of year 😍

devildeepbluesea · 21/01/2023 11:02

I hate the dark and the wet but I must say I love the cold and the crisp mornings. Today I was out with the dog for 1.5hrs then an hour’s circuits class on frozen, crunchy ground. I feel bloody amazing now! Although my arse won’t thaw out til Tuesday.

I'm a person of extremes: I loved the searing heat of last summer too.

louderthan · 21/01/2023 11:03

Yes. I just have no energy or motivation to do anything and feel really depressed all the time.

My feet have been permanently cold this year it seems. We have drastically reduced the amount of heating so that is probably why. I am also outdoors a lot.

I have those heat packs I put in any boots (all have wool or sheepskin insoles) so I'm not putting cold feet into cold footwear. It's been a relief!

Tpq · 21/01/2023 11:11

I really struggle over winter with SAD, the long darkness, the crappy cold. the snow and ice isn't helping atm, road hasn't been gritted and my poor can't still can't make it out, so trapped in this weekend and it's just something I didn't need.
I pile on weight and basically just want to sleep.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 21/01/2023 11:20

I normally don't, and I would be loving the cold sunny weather. But this year I had flu over Christmas and New year, and then broke my arm, then needed surgery on the arm, and DS has had surgery (nothing major but painful recovery) so we can't get out and about and moving enough to enjoy these bright days. It literally feels as if time is passing us by and we are waiting for spring.

Bookworm333 · 21/01/2023 11:21

When it's sunny and crisp and cold and the air feels fresh I can live with it and even enjoy a nice walk around outside. But the long dark nights and the endless grey days really grate on me and I do feel very down sometimes, especially when we get to later in winter and spring is taking a while to make an appearance. And especially this year with the heating on less, sick of having cold hands and having to wear layers all the time.

Bechets · 21/01/2023 11:22

Yes and no. I love cold, frosty, bright mornings like today, it's perfect walking weather. I hate it when it's so hot that you can't do anything apart from try to stay out the sun and cool. The older I get, the less I like the heat.

I do however absolutely hate driving in the pitch black, especially when it's icy, but have to for work. The short days are rubbish as it limits how long you stay out for on a long country walk. The anxiety about putting the cost of putting the heating on isn't great either.

If it was cold and frosty, but bright and sunny, the daylight lasted longer and I didn't have to drive in the dark, winter would be my favourite season.

girlfriend44 · 21/01/2023 11:23

Yes and wish people wouldn't moan about the hot weather.

AuntieMarys · 21/01/2023 11:24

I love days like today...sunny and cold. Hate the rain and wind. My optimum outdoor temperature is 22 degrees...no hotter

Bonjovispyjamas · 21/01/2023 11:25

It's the dark I hate more than anything, the cold I can deal with. So happy we've had the shortest day now and it's very gradually getting lighter 😊

GotAnyGrapez · 21/01/2023 11:26

Yes winter is shit if you have kids and everywhere's shut till spring.

I loved winter when I was single though! Grin

Bluevelvetsofa · 21/01/2023 11:26

I loathe, loathe, loathe winter and this year, it’s worse because of being very careful about having the heating on.

I keep looking at the pots of bulbs with their leaves poking out of the soil and hoping the warmer weather comes soon, so the flowers can get going.

stopringingme · 21/01/2023 11:28

I hate the dark mornings and it gets so dark so early, roll on spring.

Can't wait for it to get warmer to get a decent amount of washing dry outside.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 21/01/2023 11:31

Shorter days are the worst thing for me too. It’s gradually getting better now.

So do I! It’s a cold, crisp and sunny day today and l’m looking forward to our walk later. I also extend Christmas, my favourite time, by watching Christmas films 😆

stayathomer · 21/01/2023 11:39

Winter used to hands down be my favourite season of the whole year. I still now have things that I adore for example the place was so pretty everywhere in the frost, how you can close the curtains and sit with a book in front of the fire, jumpers scarves, hats, soup, tea, general cosiness, Christmas! January where you feel like you can start anything but yeah sometimes the cold but feel cruel, and and obviously everyone it’s a constant battle to keep the kids in school And for us to be able to go to work. Also dh has arthritis (so have I but not close to his) and it was sad that the year we went on a sun holiday he didn’t have a single flare up. I will recommend drinking loads of water, vitamin d tablets and foods like fish and spinach and orange, since I’ve started bombarding myself with these foods I’m more ready to attack a day!!

stargirl1701 · 21/01/2023 11:44

I used to. I realised on mat leave that I was trying to lead my 'summer' life all year round and that was the cause of my unhappiness.

Since then I have tried to lead a seasonal life enjoying things in their season. This includes food, activities, books, etc. I try to follow more traditional 'rhythms' of the year. My life looks quite different in each season.

This month I have enjoyed these new things for myself: a chicken barley recipe by Nigella, Old Tom Rhubarb gin, reading The Cold People by Tom Rob Smith, 'dressing' the dining room table for January/Burns' with some new candle holders, finding a new local walk with the dog, etc.

I use Almanac type books to inspire me each month.

Do you find wintertime hard ?
ouch321 · 21/01/2023 11:55

But it's sunny and not raining . Buy a good padded coat, it will keep you toasty.

KellyJs · 21/01/2023 12:20

No, but then again we can do things to keep ourselves busy, it must be hard for those with little to no disposable income with the weather being so cold and miserable
