I do a bit like even today I’m thinking right what shall we do today and it’s so cold

I love winter. I lived abroad for years where every season was the same and its so boring.
I love the crunchy leaves, bare trees, wrapping up and going for a walk, snow, everything about it.
Also the fact you don't need an excuse to do nothing.
Nothing I love more than being on my comfy sofa with a single duvet, my cats, a coffee, tv on or reading a good book and being all cosy.
If there is wind, rain or snow outside all the better.
I also have winter craft hobbies I don't do in summer, making dollshouses, puzzles and sewing.

AllOfThemWitches · 21/01/2023 12:26

I hate it :(

Tpq · 21/01/2023 12:29

But it's sunny and not raining
The sleet near me didn't get the memo 😂

crosspusscrossstitcher · 21/01/2023 12:34

I don't normally, but DH does.
This year I think the incessant bloody moaning from him has broken me and I can't wait for some warm weather so he can bugger off outside and paint the lawn or something!

The idea of crunchy leaves and snow is all very lovely but in reality winter here is mostly pissing rain and darkness. Christmas is nice with the decorations and lights but once they come down it's pretty miserable.

Vitriolinsanity · 21/01/2023 13:42

Days like this that are very cold but bright are lovely, but days with cold driving rain can fuck right off.

My absolute favourite day is the one that finally comes when you can walk out the door in just a t shirt, shorts and flip flops.

Bottlesofhot · 21/01/2023 13:45

I hate winter, the endless cold, dark, damp days make me despair. After Christmas is such a low period, there is nothing to look forward to. I preferred winter when I lived near the coast, essentially it mitigated the worst parts of winter.

Don't hate me but I absolutely love Winter, it's my favourite season. Currently sat with my hot water bottle and slippers on infront of the fire. It's so cosy and also so pretty looking out at the frost. Best time of year 😍

Me too. Hence username 😂 but I do get that some people don't like it.
It just invigorates me. I live by the sea, in Italy, and nothing bores me more than looking at a flat sea. Choppy waves and wind and cold however 😍

OriGanOver · 21/01/2023 13:48

@ststargirl1701 I love the seasonal living! Lovely books!

I also lived for summer but this winter I read Wintering by Katherine May and have enjoyed the slowing down and have tried to live in the season rather than being miserable that I'm stuck in when the weathers shit.

userxx · 21/01/2023 13:51

From mid October I long for mid March.

whatadaythatwas · 21/01/2023 13:56

I've found my people, roll on April and some decent daylight again!

Valentine35 · 21/01/2023 14:05

I don't enjoy the winter at all, my mood is horrendous during this time, demotivated to do anything, everything is such an effort, go to work and it's dark come home and it's dark. So relieved when spring starts to appear! Or on sunny days like today..

RenegadeMrs · 21/01/2023 14:09

Not always bit my DH has SAD, and this year we have had rolling sickness of one form or other since October. I can't find my usual equilibrium and am finding it hard. Roll on spring and warmer weather!

OnePerson · 21/01/2023 14:11

I hate winter. This winter with the added worry of paying fuel bills has been extra shit.

Roll on Spring.

MaryBerrysCamelToe · 21/01/2023 14:42

I do because I can't go surfing 🏄🏼‍♀️.
I love the water so much, and while I could glove up and get a thicker wetsuit, it just isn't the same. Plus we are such an outdoor family that we struggle on the days when it's pouring down and we are stuck inside. The kids get cabin fever very easily.

purplecorkheart · 21/01/2023 14:58

Normally winter does not bother me but this year I am really struggling and I don't know why.

I am terrified of slipping on ice after a nasty fall in my teens but have no choice but to walk in work but really ice has not been common this winter where I live. I think it is the grey clouds getting to me. I find I have no motivations or taking and joy out of my usual interests this year.

Yep, it's miserable enough without being freezing in your own home. The smart meter gives me anxiety these days 😞

Dogsgottabone · 21/01/2023 15:09

Not on days like today. Dogs walked 6 miles at 7am and all jobs done by early afternoon, now I'm sitting in the garden with a glass of wine (wearing my coat) with my face up to the sun, listening to the birds tweeting.

I have a full airer on the patio and I can smell fresh air and clean laundry.

However I'm the person that still does a 3mile walk in the sheeting rain at 6am in deepest winter. I don't understand why you would stay in just because it's raining!

However I did adapt to the heatwave last year too. I think I just love the seasons.

MinceandMash · 21/01/2023 15:20

Yes I really struggle with the lack of daylight at this time of year. It’s getting better now the nights are starting to draw out again but I hate that period in the run up to Christmas when you get up in the dark, go to work in the dark and then come home in the dark. Roll on spring time.

Metabigot · 21/01/2023 15:23

I'm OK until the end of the year but January is hard going. Don't mind the cold so much as the dark, especially getting up in the dark.

First day back at school my daughter said 'but mummy we can't get up now, it's still night time' like it shouldn't be allowed. She had a point!

Lovemusic33 · 21/01/2023 15:26

Yes, I am not a fan of winter, this year seems worse with all the rain we just had followed by the extremely cold weather. I have a dc with ASD who can’t really cope with busy places so our options of things to do are pretty limited, there’s only so many walks you can go on and it’s no fun when it’s raining or cold.

Today we are stuck in as we can’t afford to go to the cinema (one place dc will go) and dc is refusing to go for a walk. There’s only so many kids films I can tolerate and dc is moaning that they are bored.

JassyRadlett · 21/01/2023 15:29

Can someone remind me around June to nip onto all the threads where people are commiserating with each other about how much they hate the heat and are actively wishing the summer away, and tell them how wrong they are and how brilliant summer is?

(I'm with you OP. The never being properly warm, the faff of having to pile on the outdoor clothing, the frozen mud and cold feet and lost gloves and unevenly heated rooms and endless bloody thermals just to feel halfway comfortable going for a walk, let alone a bike ride. And the dark. The endless bloody dark.)

I looooove the summer, last year when people were moaning about the heat I was enjoying the sun (yes we could have done with a bit of rain). My bones don’t ache in the summer, my toes and ears don’t feel like ice and I don’t have to wear 10 layers of clothing to go outside. Let’s hope we have another hot long summer.

Howeverdoyouneedme · 21/01/2023 15:38

I like it. I love the bleakness and actually I don’t mind the cold. Wrapped up and went for a walk yesterday and was walking over frozen puddles in a meadow with a clear blue sky above.

Comedycook · 21/01/2023 15:42

I hate it. Makes me feel lazy and miserable.
