Have you posted my item yet?

I decided to have a huge clear out and sell things on Vinted - ended up selling over 20 things so it’s been a bit mad wrapping everything and getting them all posted.

Vinted states I have 5 working days to post an item and I’ve posted 15 so far in 3 days. Yet i’ve had people messaging asking if I’ve posted their item yet when even now I’m in the timeframe. One asked me less than 24 hours later.

Am I being unreasonable to want to tell them to piss off. Obviously I won’t, but I think they think they are buying from Amazon.

If I’m not able to post something within 2/3 days I always send my buyers a quick message to update them.

AnonymousHippopotamus · 19/01/2023 09:18

YANBU at all, @ProductivePenny

There are some massively over-entitled, impatient people around, including on this thread 👀

It would never occur to me to even contact a seller before the five working days specified by Vinted are up. That's the deal, and people have lives to manage, just like I do. It's not the platform to buy things if you want them 'next day', and anyone with those expectations is an idiot.

I did once buy something that was never sent, and even then I didn't harass the seller, because when I looked closer they hadn't been sending anything out at all and clearly weren't using Vinted any longer, so my money was automatically refunded. I learned from that experience to always check a seller's feedback - if I had done that, I could have seen the issue and avoided the hassle. Yes, that seller may be an arsehole, but it doesn't help anyone if I were to bombard them with messages.

Conversely, most sellers are lovely, in my experience, and keep me updated as to when they send things. I had one apologise recently because she couldn't send the item the same day through no fault of her own, and I replied, as always, that it was no problem and I was in no hurry. That's how it should work. I do give very good feedback to people like that and make sure I thank them, but I also give good feedback to people who send things out within the timeframe specified by Vinted as they are doing what is agreed when I purchased the item. People need to calm down and stop being so entitled.

BertieBotts · 19/01/2023 09:24

Don't check your messages unless you have an update for somebody, then if they have been messaging you won't be stressed out by it!

If you have it set up to ping on your phone turn that off, it's not useful to you unless you only get very infrequent sales.

People cannot expect you to be a slave to vinted 24/7. As long as you send it within the required time, it's fine.

MRex · 19/01/2023 09:24

You're taking a simple question as criticism, and getting unnecessary worked up. With all the recent post office and evri delays, people are nervous about how long items are likely to take. So what if they ask if it's posted yet? Let them know "I'll post on Friday" or whenever you plan.

IDontWantToBeAPie · 19/01/2023 11:52

Just say 'it will be posted within the permitted timeframe'

JudgeRudy · 19/01/2023 12:16

I don't think it's unreasonable to ask no. I think it's unreasonable to say why haven't you posted it/I've not recieved it yet.
Maybe you could include a bit on your listing where you say "....Will advise of dispatch by email within X days of payment"

AlwaysGoingBackwards · 19/01/2023 12:22

Yanbu. I’ve had some proper dick buyers on Vinted moaning after 2 days that their £2 items hadn’t arrived.

Vinted is clear on dispatch times and you aren’t a business!

ShakespearesBlister · 19/01/2023 12:25

ProductivePenny · 18/01/2023 23:13

Vinted allow up to 5 working days. I just don’t think people can moan and expected same day or 1-2 days when they aren’t buying from a big company.

They might allow it but we live in an instant society and most people aren't going to expect that a seller will take the whole 5 days to dispatch something regarding what Vinted says. They will be more likely to expect the item to be sent as soon as they paid. You could just as easily argue people shouldn't sell on Vinted if they don't want to deal with impatient buyers.

PurplePansy05 · 19/01/2023 12:27

Oh stop with the instant society and customer service, we're individual people who have cleared out our and kids' wardrobes and are getting rid of unwanted stuff as and when, not a business to be giving you instant, great customer service 😂 not enough eye rolls, honestly.

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 19/01/2023 12:32

CheshireCats · 18/01/2023 23:16

Agree with other pp. 5 days is a long time. Rather than fixating on what Vinted "allow" consider what your buyer expects. I used to sell a lot on Ebay and always posted within two days.

Except it isn't. It's an expectation cemented by Amazon.

Bloody ridiculous.

ProductivePenny · 19/01/2023 14:13

Aprilx · 19/01/2023 04:58

It might not be your main source of income and it might be something you do as a one off, but in that moment when you make a sale, they are the customer and you are the seller and it is a business transaction.

Asking if something has been posted is a simple question, it is not a moan or complaint and if your response is to tell them to piss off, then perhaps selling is not for you.

I started an ETSY shop recently, it is a hobby to me really as I make very little, but regardless I need to act like it is a business because people are paying their money. So I answer messages promptly and politely. I don’t swear at people just because I don’t feel like I am running a business. Also if you don’t feel you can send out 20 parcels then don’t list 20 things at once. I have some made to order items, if I don’t believe I can get any more out in the timeframe I would stop taking more orders.

Well clearly I can get all 20 out as I did. I’ll always get the parcels out no matter how many I have within the timeframe.

I’m not sure why people keep suggesting that I alter what I’m doing.

Why are people washing the item once its been purchased? How odd

I don’t wash items after they are purchased but they are always clean before I list anything.

OP posts:
OhmygodDont · 19/01/2023 14:31

I’ve never chased an item but then again Ive only purchased a couple of things and tbh they where all here within 3 days anyway.

I’ve sold quite a bit and tend to post within 24hours. In fact my first sale was shipped within an hour but that was fluke I was home and going near an in post locker I think the buyer was very shocked.

If it was going to take me days and days to ship I’d pop a message. Also I only download the label just before I ship or late at night ready to ship in the morning.

hourbyhour101 · 19/01/2023 19:00

I think a lot of the time people get worried because you can come across people who list things and vanish and never post it. Yes you get refunded but it's a long and drawn out process and annoying if you miss out on other items because of it.

gettingolderandgrumpier · 19/01/2023 19:32

just send as soon as you can is not unreasonable to ask , but tbh you’ve got a life I assume , you aren’t a business it will get there when it gets there . I do agree though sending 20 items at at time would be too much for me . I’ve just put 4 or 5 things on a time luckily not all sold as I can’t keep posting them I have a job and a family but I usually send the next day after sold I think by day 3 you should really of posted but just send a quick message saying it will be sent within the next day or so.

TheLette · 19/01/2023 20:25

I sell on Vinted. For me, I try to post next day or the day after, and if that's not possible I will let the buyer know. 5 days for me is a longstop. After all, I want my money, a good review and for the items crap to be gone from my house! As a buyer I would be annoyed if someone didn't post until day 5 AND didn't update me after sale to tell me when they planned to post the item.

mathanxiety · 20/01/2023 05:10

@ProductivePenny

I do know how Vinted works, thanks.

When I click buy my money leaves my account and I can't use it again until it gets refunded to me. And when you decide to passive aggressively take your full five days I can't use the items I have bought, which are now my property, until you get your arse in gear.

I absolutely want to know when I can have my stuff. I have a life too. I need to have someone look out for your package when it arrives, maybe take it in for me.

Bottom line - I want the goods I have bought. Or I want my money back in my account. You dicking around and taking your sweet time with the items that are actually mine is not fair. You're not doing me a favour here, you're not doing something for me that I was cheeky to ask you to do. I bought your old clothes. They are mine.

I pay real money to you and I get real stuff in return.

If you can't handle the pressure of dealing g with real people and their real money, donate tour baby stuff to charity. You wouldn't make any actual money that way of course. But it seems you've conveniently forgotten the money part as long as it's other people's money we're talking about.

Ah no sorry that was a response to when someone posted that message full of emjois saying it had been washed for the buyer.

Porridgeislife · 20/01/2023 06:51

You’re not unreasonable at all. Vinted buyers can be absolutely nuts.

I buy a LOT for baby and myself on Vinted but I’m very happy to wait, if I need something next day then that’s what Amazon Prime or John Lewis click & collect is for. I’m getting bargains and that’s the trade off.

I had a woman buy a £3 baby jumper on Boxing Day to be shipped via Inpost. She hounded me for despatch every day despite our lockers not being emptied until the 29th. I was not going to drive to another village for a fecking baby jumper despite her suggestion.

There’s also no Evri or Hermes shop in our village or nearest market town so it’s a half hour round trip for me, so anyone who wants this has to wait until it’s convenient for me.

Porridgeislife · 20/01/2023 06:54

@mathanxiety the seller doesn’t have the money either until you receive the items and declare all is ok. If you want stuff immediately then there are a plethora of retail outlets prepared to deliver next day at substantially (!) more cost. Stop being so precious.

Diedre44 · 20/01/2023 07:20

I'm currently selling quite a few items on Vinted and found it just as frustrating. I made myself a template I just copy and paste in each listing stating "I can only post on Fridays, any purchase made after 6pm Friday will not be sent until the following Friday."
I've had a few asking can I send sooner and if they're not arsey then I might go out of my way.

Just to add: I do always send buyer a quick message and screenshot of proof of postage as soon as it's sent.
Most people have no issues.

WigglyGlowWorm · 20/01/2023 07:37

Annoying but that’s online selling for you! My husband had his Etsy shop closed down over Christmas due to the lies a customer told over a late delivery. She ordered from America (we’re U.K. based) She ordered on the 18th and was angry when it wasn’t there for Christmas, despite DH sending out within 24 hours. His site actually said the cut off date for international guaranteed Christmas delivery was 5th December. She claimed he had ignored her emails, he hadn’t and had proof to back this up. Etsy, of course sided with her and it cost him £35 in refund fees plus the shop was shut due to an admin error on their side 😡 Needless to say she’s been banned from the shop.

Then you get the angry people who want you to pay import tax for them as their item is caught up in customs in their country. That’ll be a NO. They insist on another item then, er NO. Unless it’s lost or damaged, we’re not sending out another item. Our business would be so much easier without customers 😆

@mathanxiety

So….you don’t really know how it works then.

The money is held in escrow by Vinted. The Seller doesn’t receive it until the buyer has confirmed everything is all ok. Once the buyer has done that, the money is released to the Seller and then the item belongs to the buyer.

CatchHimDerry · 20/01/2023 07:48

I have sold online for YEARS op, with an eBay business account, Facebook Marketplace, Vinted etc.

Facebook ones were always the worst, “can you deliver this £1 item to me when I say so, as I don’t drive and I want it now” 😂

Vinted I have the same issue as you occasionally and I find it so cheeky and they are often so rude about it.

There’s times I can post the same day, and times it’s the full 5 days… that’s just life.

I agree with PP. if somebody needs something that desperately, pay full price for something plus £5.99 for next day delivery or Amazon Prime’s inflated prices.

I get that it’s “customer service”, but Vinted have SLA’s that say within 5 days is acceptable. If you are within that, whether that’s same day or 5 days, I think that’s acceptable.

I also buy LOADS on there and would never dare chase somebody 😂 im getting a bargain for £1 or something, I’m just happy when it turns up and is in good condition
