Have you posted my item yet?

I decided to have a huge clear out and sell things on Vinted - ended up selling over 20 things so it’s been a bit mad wrapping everything and getting them all posted.

Vinted states I have 5 working days to post an item and I’ve posted 15 so far in 3 days. Yet i’ve had people messaging asking if I’ve posted their item yet when even now I’m in the timeframe. One asked me less than 24 hours later.

Am I being unreasonable to want to tell them to piss off. Obviously I won’t, but I think they think they are buying from Amazon.

They're only asking though, not complaining. Ignore them or better to just politely say, ‘not yet, but I always post within 5 days of sale as advised by vinted’.

It probably is that people are used to fast service now from most places and expect you to act like a business. Also people probably don’t read the postage info. I used to sell things on eBay and clearly state that I only post on Fridays and I‘d still get questions, sometimes whinging. I’d just politely say ‘I did state it in my listing dumbass’.

It’s not a business. I get things out as fast as I can but ultimately I am allowed 5 working days.

I sold countless things in Depop in lockdown and probably sold close to 100 items in a year. I never had repeat buyers.

It might not be your main source of income and it might be something you do as a one off, but in that moment when you make a sale, they are the customer and you are the seller and it is a business transaction.

Asking if something has been posted is a simple question, it is not a moan or complaint and if your response is to tell them to piss off, then perhaps selling is not for you.

I started an ETSY shop recently, it is a hobby to me really as I make very little, but regardless I need to act like it is a business because people are paying their money. So I answer messages promptly and politely. I don’t swear at people just because I don’t feel like I am running a business. Also if you don’t feel you can send out 20 parcels then don’t list 20 things at once. I have some made to order items, if I don’t believe I can get any more out in the timeframe I would stop taking more orders.

Paq · 19/01/2023 05:55

You're not unreasonable but neither are your buyers. Just toughen up and don't let the messages stress you out. You can "pause" your items if you are not going to be around to post them.

bluebird3 · 19/01/2023 06:03

I'm on the same page as you OP. I try to send as quickly as possible. But with 2 small kids, a job, and an inconvenient evri parcelshop - sometimes it takes a few days to drop off.

If someone messaged me before buying and asked if I could despatch quickly then I would let them know if that was possible based on what we had going on that week.

@mathanxiety I've never had anything posted next day on ebay, vinted or debop from a non business seller. Even high street retailers struggle to dispatch that quick!

I end my listings on a Sunday and post on the Monday if I've been paid. I want the items gone!

Anyway OP. yes some of them seem a bit keen! I personally think an item on ebay should be posted within 2-3 days and after that there should be communication. But I understand that that isn't the actual policy and vinteds policy is different. Could you reply and say I have up to 5 days to post it - please cancel if you are not happy with this?

HappyFannyPetrow · 19/01/2023 06:24

I sell a lot on Vinted and think it’s considerate to post the item within 48 hours at the most. It’s just good service and really not much of an extra effort. If it’s going to be longer than that I always message to explain why.

Riu · 19/01/2023 06:27

Give your stuff to a charity shop if you don’t want to deal with customers.

BooksAndHooks · 19/01/2023 06:48

If I don’t have a message within a few days saying hi I’m posting on this day etc I send a message. At least 50 per cent of items I have purchased on Vinted are never posted, so If I don’t have any communication from the seller it rings alarm bells. It’s extremely frustrating to buy an item wait a week and then have to start searching all over again, meanwhile you’ve missed out on the similar items you were watching in the meantime.

If you send a quick message to people after sale it will reassure people you are a genuine seller and not one of these weird people who list items they have no intention of sending. People just like to know roughly when to expect it that’s all.

Lougle · 19/01/2023 06:50

When I was selling quite a few bits on eBay, I packed then as I listed them, so I just had to add the label. It worked well.

yousmellnice · 19/01/2023 06:55

@BooksAndHooks Ahh that would explain it I guess. Why would people do that though? Seems weird to go to all the effort but then not actually sell.

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 19/01/2023 07:01

Acheyknees · 18/01/2023 22:57

I think people are used to quick despatch if they use ebay, amazon etc. I know I would be annoyed if it took 5 days for someone to post something. Perhaps stagger your listings rather than list 20 things so you can post quicker.

This. I think expectations are for same-day shipping.

I have no idea it’s hugely frustrating that Vinted don’t clamp down on sellers who do it. They don’t get payment released to them so gain absolutely nothing from it. I always check how long an item has been listed for now as it can be it’s something posted on there six months ago and they don’t remember. Others seem to like time wasting.

Everydayitsgettingcloser · 19/01/2023 07:10

I'm with you, OP - when I want something quickly, I buy it new on next day delivery. I use vinted for things I don't need asap - I just bought school shorts for my kids, for example - and I understand that real people don't always live next door to the post office and can't drop everything to post.

PurplePansy05 · 19/01/2023 07:51

But you can't prepack for Vinted because people often buy bundles 😂

Also for saying baby clothes it absolutely works best to list multiple cheaper items at once for the above reason.

And no, even if I list less, I won't be going out of my way to go to the post office or store just because someone is spoiled and needy 😂😂😂

PurplePansy05 · 19/01/2023 07:51

*selling not saying

Swiftswatch · 19/01/2023 07:55

They might give you 5 days but I’ve never experienced someone on eBay or Vinted to takes 5 full days to dispatch, and then it’s usually a slow post option.
Their expectations are probably set by other sellers.
Honestly posting on day 4 or 5 is too late for me and you probably won’t get good feedback.
Most people I buy from let me know when they are going to post, and I’ve done the same when I listed items.
You’re getting shitty with the replies unnecessarily, of course it’s poor service. You can claim you aren’t running a business but you are selling and item and people have paid for it.

ViscountessBridgerton · 19/01/2023 08:03

Wow this thread is bonkers. Customer service when you're selling second hand toot you've got lying around the house. I've used the full 5 days to send before and never had a bad review, and I would never chase a seller about something I've bought, cos I assume they probably have a busy life the same as me.

lljkk · 19/01/2023 08:17

I sell a lot on ebay & don't hear this. Maybe Vinted has a fault in not giving buyers enough info about dispatch time.

I make baby clothes to sell on Etsy, customers like this are the absolute bane of my life!

I have a 2 week dispatch, it's clearly noted on the listings - I even add a notice on my photos to check the dispatch times before ordering. It doesn't stop the endless messages. It's the ones who send '?????' when I haven't instantly replied that really piss me off - FUCK OFF 😠

I mostly hate people since I started selling online!

yousmellnice · 19/01/2023 08:57

I think day 5 is probably best kept for emergency situations so aim to post by day 3-4.

Can you cancel any people who get too chasey and rude?

aonbharr · 19/01/2023 08:57

ProductivePenny · 19/01/2023 00:18

You clearly don’t know how Vinted works. No moeny goes into my account until the seller clicks a button to say they have received it.

The way some of you are going on it’s like I should personally drive it over to them the second they bought it, have them on the phone with me the entire time to ensure they are getting instant live updates. Somersault down to their front door, present them with a gorgeous wrapped parcel with a huge bow, knock on the door, get down on one knee to present said parcel and after they take it do jazz hands.

If you are getting this stressed and irritated by shipping and by people who are telling you what you don't want to hear, I'd forget about the online selling, it does not sound worth the hassle for you.

BridieConvert · 19/01/2023 08:58

It's not difficult to post within a day or 2.
I also sell on Vinted, everything is packaged, or at least in the bag even if not sealed, so it's easier to just grab and go.
All it takes is a message once the item has been bought - "thanks for buying! I'll get this posted on x day". Never an issue if you keep them updated.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 19/01/2023 09:00

Are they not just asking? And you could just answer?

yousmellnice · 19/01/2023 09:05

Why are people washing the item once its been purchased? How odd

Decafflatteplease · 19/01/2023 09:10

I also sell on vinted. I put in my little description thing the days that I post so people can see before they buy. It's usually within 48 hours and I always message to say thanks for buying I'll aim to post on (day) .

But im at home all day so easy for me to pop out 3 times a week to post whereas if I was working it might only be on a weekend and I understand that might be the same for people I buy from.
