Have you posted my item yet?

I decided to have a huge clear out and sell things on Vinted - ended up selling over 20 things so it’s been a bit mad wrapping everything and getting them all posted.

Vinted states I have 5 working days to post an item and I’ve posted 15 so far in 3 days. Yet i’ve had people messaging asking if I’ve posted their item yet when even now I’m in the timeframe. One asked me less than 24 hours later.

Am I being unreasonable to want to tell them to piss off. Obviously I won’t, but I think they think they are buying from Amazon.

OP you're asking, and people are telling you what they think. As someone who's also sold on vinted, I send by day 2. It takes about 48 hours once you send the parcel. If you wait until the 5th day (which we all know by this point in the thread is the deadline) that's 7 days. I expect something I'm paying to have couriered to be with me in less than a week 🤷🏽‍♀️

You say that but people don’t read the thread just the OP so unfortunately on most threads you have to repeat yourself over and over.

And sorry, but if you're selling stuff online, it's not up to your customers to discern whether you're a shop or just someone clearing out your stuff as a once off.

As pps have said, five days isn't a target, it's a limit.

Duttercup · 18/01/2023 23:53

Here's my sellers point of view - you're paying £3 for a £20 pair of shoes that have been worn twice by an ungrateful toddler. I'll send them when I get a minute.

Luckily, I think most people on Vinted buy and sell and aren't confused by the 'not Amazon' concept.

Commercial sellers aren’t allowed on vinted.

Yes, YABU.

You should keep your buyers updated. It's basic, courteous customer service.

Customer service? Again I’m not a business. Everything is clean, packaged nice and sent out asap and within the given timeframe.

I don’t have time to give updates to 20 people for paying £4 for a Zara top.

Exactly this.

@Duttercup
The problem with your rationale is that many Vinted sellers do get their items out within a 24 hour window and their buyers are not paying shop prices.

Duttercup · 18/01/2023 23:56

Yeah, not sure people on this thread are quite across the Vinted vibe.

I'm not offering any customer service. I'm offering very cheap kids clothes in lovely condition, posted in a carrier bag turned inside out.

renonovice · 18/01/2023 23:57

Stop giving your buyers poor service and send promptly

lol

pinkpotatoez · 18/01/2023 23:57

YABU i always ask if the seller has any idea when they'll ship straight after buying to make sure they have seen my order. Doesn't mean I want it any quicker but it's my right as a customer to know when I'm roughly going to receive my item.

Duttercup · 18/01/2023 23:58

🤷🏼‍♀️ Good for them. Judging by my slow posting time and 5 star rating, noone's that bothered.

So weird because I’ve got over 80 reviews, every single one 5* and I sometimes post the same day and sometimes on day 5. Depends on circumstances/ what I’m up to.
It’s really not the norm for people to send out within 24 hours on Vinted in my personal buying experience on there.

mathanxiety · 18/01/2023 23:58

There are plenty of people who sell a lot on Vinted. They buy stuff in charity shops or they sell on behalf of their friends. They're not shops but they sell the max volume Vinted allows and they've been selling for a long time.

renonovice · 18/01/2023 23:59

@mathanxiety I've never had anything posted next day on ebay, vinted or debop from a non business seller. Even high street retailers struggle to dispatch that quick!

Cherryontop55 · 18/01/2023 23:59

I agree OP. I'm so so glad I've not had any buyers like this yet! I'm really lucky that all my buyers have been pretty laid back, and I like to think that I've been the same. I always try my best to post asap but sometimes things have come up, work, family, so it's always been handy to have the 5 day timeframe and I've not had any complaints. It's clear most of us don't earn a full time wage from vinted so of course we have actual jobs to focus on and can't be dashing off to the post office every day. If I needed something faster than normal I would contact the seller first, and I would expect buyers to do the same when buying from me. It only takes 2 seconds to send a message and would save a lot of hassle/issues if people can't wait!

It’s very apparent when you come across that kind of seller vs one who has a child firing through clothes sizes at a rate of knots who can’t be bothered to look at it any more.

Really, if I was doing it to make money, I’d probably not be selling 5 items for £1 lol.

pinkpotatoez · 19/01/2023 00:00

I buy a lot and have experienced radio silence after using the buy now feature, so I always ask. you should send a message out after a sale to acknowledge the sale

I’ve bought quite a few things from Vinted too and 24 hours isn’t the norm from my experience.

Not unreasonable at all
its not a business and most of us that use that site have full time jobs and will make a weekly visit to post office
i would just add a note saying “will be posted within 5 days” to the listing as most people aren’t aware of time scales
they can choose to buy or not buy then

ProductivePenny · 19/01/2023 00:03

Why?

They get a notification and tracking when it’s scanned by the courier, which same or next day.

I assume the people buying know that means it’s posted and don’t need me to tell them that.

OP posts:
renonovice · 19/01/2023 00:03

& if I need something asap I would always contact the seller first & ask when they can post.

You have experienced radio silence because there is no need to send a message, the tracking updates once the item is sent.

I had a buyer buy something at 5pm on Hogmanay. Messaged me at lunch on New Year’s Day asking when I was posting. My response was “when I sober up” 😂

Kitcaterpillar · 18/01/2023 23:25

I honestly couldn't care less what people 'expect' when they're spending £4 on some toddler clothes.

This. I'm not fucking Amazon. Just someone selling 2nd hand whatever that I have lying about my house!

I had this on eBay once OP. I specify a three working day timescale in my listings for posting as I know that because of my working schedule I can't get to a Post Office on certain days. I always post as soon as I can.

Despite this being detailed as the timescale, I had one person berating me in messages because I couldn't post THE SAME DAY as they paid. This came about because I contacted them to thank them for buying and confirmed I could post the following day (so actually one working day after purchase!). She kicked off and continued to even when I explained I was AT WORK and physically couldn't get to a Post Office even if I wanted to. Crazy expectations. I cancelled the sale and refunded her money.

pinkpotatoez · 19/01/2023 00:05

@WineDup
You can't expect customers not to ask imo, there's no confirmation this person is 100% going to send the item like there is on Amazon etc. It takes literally a minute to say thanks for buying, I'll ship within 5 days, then that's it no more questions needed

mathanxiety · 19/01/2023 00:05

@ProductivePenny

You're selling items for real money, not tokens. You are putting real money in your bank account.

The people receiving your items are your customers. It's unreasonable of you not to see that they want some word on when they can start looking out for items in their post when real money has left their bank account and/or is not available to them.
