Have you posted my item yet?

I decided to have a huge clear out and sell things on Vinted - ended up selling over 20 things so it’s been a bit mad wrapping everything and getting them all posted.

Vinted states I have 5 working days to post an item and I’ve posted 15 so far in 3 days. Yet i’ve had people messaging asking if I’ve posted their item yet when even now I’m in the timeframe. One asked me less than 24 hours later.

Am I being unreasonable to want to tell them to piss off. Obviously I won’t, but I think they think they are buying from Amazon.

@ProductivePenny

You're selling items for real money, not tokens. You are putting real money in your bank account.

The people receiving your items are your customers. It's unreasonable of you not to see that they want some word on when they can start looking out for items in their post when real money has left their bank account and/or is not available to them.

This. It's not outlandish to want a window of when i can expect the item, that I have now paid you for, to be at my front door. Unless they're being rude, pestering there's no harm and if you can't stand that part of selling online, maybe just drop your old things off at the local charity shop.

@WineDup
You can't expect customers not to ask imo, there's no confirmation this person is 100% going to send the item like there is on Amazon etc. It takes literally a minute to say thanks for buying, I'll ship within 5 days, then that's it no more questions needed

Okay, don’t buy for me then coz you ain’t getting that. I don’t sit glued to vinted, I check it when I’ve got time (usually every day) and I package the things and send them the first day my partner and I are both off; since we both work and have two young kids with busy lives.

It’s not worth the effort to give “good service” to my “customers” to make approx 20p per item, for clean, good condition, freshly washed baby clothes.

Maybe if I was selling high value items I might take a different stance.

pinkpotatoez · 19/01/2023 00:12

@WineDup
No one said send the message that second, tad dramatic. Just drop your clothes off at the local charity shop if you feel you don't earn enough to be courteous 🤷‍♀️

They can’t start looking out for the item approximately 2-5 working days after the tracking automatically updates? It’s vinted, not tinder. There is no need to message.

You clearly don’t know how Vinted works. No moeny goes into my account until the seller clicks a button to say they have received it.

The way some of you are going on it’s like I should personally drive it over to them the second they bought it, have them on the phone with me the entire time to ensure they are getting instant live updates. Somersault down to their front door, present them with a gorgeous wrapped parcel with a huge bow, knock on the door, get down on one knee to present said parcel and after they take it do jazz hands.

I have bought a few things off vinted and I never knew the person selling had 5 days. As the buyer, you don't get told that. I have wondered come day 4 when the person is going to post. Most people don't message to say they will post on such and such a date so your just left wondering when it will be postied and guessing as to when it may arrive. May be worth putting in the listing that it will be posted within 5 days. I know as a buyer I would appreciate that because at least if something is urgent I would then know not to buy if its going to take at least 5 days to post. I also then wouldn't message the person until after the 5 days.

I had someone not post for 2 weeks. Never heard a thing from her. Messaged her and she says she wasn't well. She eventually posted it at the same time as evri were 'losing' the parcels. It never did arrive. Not her fault but I wouldn't buy from her again just for the complete rudeness of not updating me of when she would be posting.

pinkpotatoez · 19/01/2023 00:20

@ProductivePenny not one person is acting like that😂

Eyerollcentral · 19/01/2023 00:21

ProductivePenny · 18/01/2023 23:13

Vinted allow up to 5 working days. I just don’t think people can moan and expected same day or 1-2 days when they aren’t buying from a big company.

You are absolutely not being unreasonable!!!! I cancelled a sale last week because a buyer would not stop messaging me. It’s too much. Frig’s sake. We can’t all just drop everything and run directly to the post office. Honestly has driven me demented. Had another one send me ??? Two days after sale. I was cheeky back and said did you think that was a polite way to start to a conversation? As it happened I was on the way to the post office!!!! And she didn’t mark it as received until I promoted her… sorry to say but both were quite young women and I do just wonder if they expect everything NOW as that’s what they are used to. If someone tells me they need something by x date I will go out of my way to send it asap and sometimes first class even if they haven’t paid for it. But the entitlement!!!!

Yes but the money leaves the buyers bank account the moment they order and vinted hold it.

This, I don’t need to provide a good service, the person won’t buy from me again.

As long as the item they get matches the description and it’s posted within the timeframe then that’s the minimum standard met.

But it was clearly implied that I wouldn’t give a shit about sending as I already had their money.

I agree with you, OP. I think if there's a time frame of 5 days, that's what it means. There's no need for anyone to chase or nag beforehand. We're individual sellers, working, busy people, not Amazon Prime. It's the cheeky fuckers full of self-entitlement who think the world revolves around them who do this. I kill them with a super polite message back and do my thing regardless. I also have a clear description in my profile that I send items out on certain days of the week only. If they don't read it, tough. If they need it urgently and don't enquire with me first, also tough.

I am not going out of my way for a couple of quid.

Btw, I am a five star seller on Vinted and I actually really rate it and have made decent money. Some people are just silly though and this happens everywhere.

Those comparing to other platforms - if that's the time frame you expect, buy via other platforms. Simple.

Yeah, and I don’t want to be selling to people who demand everything super fast, tbh. So it is beneficial all round.

I do think people who are buying baby clothes generally:
a) don’t need things super fast (I always buy the next size up about a month or so before he needs it)
b) recognises the seller has a young baby and may be quite busy
c) realises that the seller is making £2.50 for £30 worth of clothes, and understands that it’s not a priority.

As I said, if I was selling high value items then I’d understand, but I’m uploading 5 vests for £1 with 40% bundle discounts on.

Judgyjudgy · 19/01/2023 00:34

Can you do an auto email type thing once the item is sold, saying it will be x days. I'd then just ignore the messages.

Vinted does this automatically.

I personally send a message myself as well just because I think that's a nice touch, but that's about it.

Some sellers are also way over the top with their cutesy messages, endless offers and trying to shove stuff that didn't sell down buyers' throats, it's not just the buyers. A chill pill for some Vinted users might be helpful before sending a message.

You’d need to manually type it in each order. Anyone who buys on vinted IS told the seller has 5 days to post (although they don’t advertise that it’s actually up to 14 days) and it’s all on the FAQ section of the app.
The tracking is integrated into the app so they automatically get an update when the item is posted.

I have been known to reply “the tracking will update after I post it” if someone asks when I’ll post it. Fortunately I’ve only been asked a few times.

it’s always the ones chasing the seller who take ages to mark item as okay, too.

OP, the policy is 5 days so I don’t think you’re wrong in theory to allow up until that time. It’s what the site has stipulated so as a buyer you go into your transaction being fully aware. If I needed something urgently I would not use Vinted as it’s not that kind of forum.

We live in a world where we are used to things arriving quickly, within a day or two and I’ve noticed that most people seem to post things within 2/3 days but I do think part of Vinted’s pull is that it’s a more relaxed site. Things are cheaper and I’ve not come across anyone being demanding if I’ve not posted within a day or two (I aim to do it as soon as I can but once ran into trouble finding a locker for drop off as everything nearby was full, for miles, for many days.) I find as long as you keep buyers in the loop, even with a cursory message, they tend to be more than understanding. I have to say I really enjoy using Vinted, I find it nice and chilled.

Eyerollcentral · 19/01/2023 00:45

Sometimes I am able to post the same day and sometimes I’m running to get the last post on day 5. That’s the time you are allowed to send the item, there is just no need for these annoying interim messages. If you need it urgently when you buy the item, say it. Otherwise get out of my face!! As you can tell it drives me mad. I considered taking everything down after being harassed last week, it’s just for a bit extra for the savings account at the end of the day. I don’t think the constant messengers realise how annoying they are but I do not understand how they don’t know that!!!!

I really hate it when I just like something and get a message asking if I’m interested.
Someone messaged me saying they were going to the post office tomorrow so I should buy now. I looked at their profile and so many of their reviews were bad because they never posted their items. Like thanks but I’m good.
