To ask how often you go out for dinner

Interested to see what is standard

We are on average incomes and go out 3 or 4 times a month I’d say. More than we ever used to!

We don’t go anywhere fancy unless it’s a really special occasion, so no set menus and usually just a main course occasionally a starter. We stick to Pizza Express, Wagamama, Nando’s, pub restaurants etc as we like these places and often find there’s a blue light deal to be had or can use Clubcard vouchers etc.

We went for a meal on Sunday evening and the waiter commented that it’s the busiest Sunday they have had since eat out to help out, and that this January is seeing much more trade than in other years which is strange given the cost of living crisis.

Rarely unless someone else pays (in laws sometimes take us). We are a family of 6 with teens so costs a small fortune.

I'm really sorry to ask, but don't you feel bad accepting this if you never can reciprocate?

Chatterboxy · 17/01/2023 19:06

We used to got out once a week, now only once a month, partly for financial reasons, but also started to get a bit disappointed with paying for food that often wasn’t worth the price tag & I could do a better job at home.

RidingMyBike · 17/01/2023 19:07

Five times in last seven years. And not since 2019. Too expensive with paying for a babysitter.

Isseywith3witchycats · 17/01/2023 19:08

At the moment toby keep sending us half price on two mains mid week deals so more often than we usually go out to eat

minidancer · 17/01/2023 19:08

Roughly twice a week.....family of 4.

Sunnytwobridges · 17/01/2023 19:09

Rarely, for some reason i often find it boring and most of the time not worth how much it costs.

NameChange443 · 17/01/2023 19:09

We go out every 3 weeks or so

JorisBonson · 17/01/2023 19:09

About twice a month with DH, 2 or 3 times a month with friends.

CaitCannoli · 17/01/2023 19:11

3-4 times a week.

Both DH and I dislike cooking and the kids aren’t old enough to do it yet so we compromise Grin

Transferwaiting · 17/01/2023 19:11

harrassedmumto3 Nope, I don't feel bad. In-laws have plenty of disposable income and if they want to spend it on us that is their choice. We reciprocate in other ways - often host them for dinner, petsit for them, pick them up from the pub so they don't need a taxi etc...

OoooohMatron · 17/01/2023 19:11

Maybe once or twice a month.

Furrybutts · 17/01/2023 19:12

Most days for either lunch or dinner.

It's the last treat I would give up if I had to budget.

Sukisal · 17/01/2023 19:12

Not dinner so much as evenings are filled with sport, hobbies etc.

but lunch and breakfast- at least once a week!

Daftmum47 · 17/01/2023 19:14

Very rarely for dinner, quite often for lunch, but cheap and cheerful places.

(I count going to McDonalds as going out for lunch these days)

DurhamDurham · 17/01/2023 19:17

On a weekend we go out for lunch or dinner one day and breakfast the other. We eat out together or separately about twice a week during the week, we both work in cities (not the same one) so there's lots of places to choose from. It's never anywhere really fancy, just that does good food.
Our grocery bill is relatively low compared to some families on here but then I remember we eat out quite a bit and then I don't feel so smug about it.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 17/01/2023 19:17

Twice a month I’d say. Max 3 times a month. We get takeaway once a fortnight. I’m the main cook in the house. Chef needs a break once in a while. We have a second home in Norfolk and we’re trying new pubs, restaurants and takeaways.

Outfor150 · 17/01/2023 19:20

Three or four times a year. Nothing expensive, a pizza place or the likes.

Trez1510 · 17/01/2023 19:29

Just the two of us.

Dinner/Takeaway - alternate Saturdays
Lunch - once or twice per week

Lunch, partner drives so I can drink - saves about £40 on taxis.
Dinner, I drive so partner can drink - saves about £40 on taxis.

Approx every two months we have a 'blow out' when we both get drunk/pay for taxis! 😃

LaurieFairyCake · 17/01/2023 19:32

Not at all - I don't like being out late

But we go out for lunch at least once a week and have a takeaway once a week too

watchfulwishes · 17/01/2023 19:35

Not very often. I sometimes want to, but food out is often not as good in reality as I hope it will be.

We do have some pretty good cafes, and there is a good pizza place, and a few good curry places.

I can't get excited by something like Nandos or other chain places.

rsfgp · 17/01/2023 19:35

Approx 2 dinners and 3 lunches.

Shoxfordian · 17/01/2023 19:36

Usually 1-2 times a week depending what we’re doing; I was out last night but just a pub and dh is out for dinner tomorrow with friends. We might go out on Friday if we feel like it

LindorDoubleChoc · 17/01/2023 19:37

For special occasions. I wouldn't consider dinner in Pizza Express or Wagamamas a treat, given the cost. I would rather spend 2 or 3 times the amount to go out less often.

Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday · 17/01/2023 19:38

We used to go out probably twice a week and maybe a takeaway too.

These days I’d say probably half of that, it’s got much more expensive and I find that I’m much less happy to pay for anything out that isn’t better/different to what we have at home.

Hoppinggreen · 17/01/2023 19:39

We are on good incomes and we go out for food around once a month.
We don’t go to chains though
