I am exactly as my username says, so I just need some reassurance that I’m worrying for no reason at all and it will be fine!

I had to buy a wire for my i phone charger today, and also a plug- I told them it was an iphone 13 and showed it to them, and they said it needed a usb c cable. I said I thought it was the B but they said that only refers to the fitting for the plug, and the plug they were selling me was for a C. So they went and got me the C and I bought it and I went home and surprise surprise it doesn’t fit my phone.

I’m kicking myself now because my guy instinct said he was wrong but he was so insistent and was talking over me each time I was trying to explain it- it’s a big high street brand so I stupidly trusted him and bought that one.

obviously I’ll take it back tomorrow but I’m just a bit worried they deny it or say they can’t swap it because I’ve opened the packaging and unwrapped the wire (I had to to try and fit it in my phone) but I’ve put it back in the box and wrapped it as best as I could, it was £35 so I’m just a bit worried they won’t swap it or take it back because obviously it’s a lot of money. Like I said in my username, I’m a stresser and have bad anxiety so I’m a bit worried about it tonight!

has anyone got any knowledge about this?! Absolutely kicking myself!

“While we're here, does anyone know where I put my iPhone charger? It was in my hand when I went upstairs yesterday evening, and I cannot find the fucker now!”

I’m afraid that deserves a whole new thread. The answer is that one of your children has stolen it.

RedRiverShore3 · 17/01/2023 09:38

The cable OP has been sold fits the iPad Pro 2021 and the new Apple TV, I think Apple are changing over to that one now going forward so if by slim chance they don't change it, I think they will, I would keep it for future Apple stuff, it is a pain though there are different expensive leads for everything.

Current status is that I have "borrowed" the kid's one (which to be fair he probably nicked it off me in the first place!).

Sorry if I’m being stupid but I don’t quite follow- I’ve tried both ends of the wire and neither fit my phone but both ends fit the plug itself

Apple USB-C to Lightning Cable (1m) either from Apple or a cheapie one.

You don't even need an Apple socket - any plug with a USB c .

@stresser for future reference, don’t feel you need to buy Apple branded replacement cables (plugs, yes). Anker braided cables are extremely reliable and very well priced, you can get them on Amazon.

MyLittleSausageDog · 17/01/2023 09:46

Always listen to your gut instinct. I’m definitely not berating you by the way, I’ve had experience with it myself. The bra measuring lady I’m M&S absolutely insisted I was a 32C when I knew I was a 34B. She practically ordered me to the till with 2 bras against my better judgement. Those bras were the most uncomfortable things I’ve ever worn 😠 I ended up having to take two buses back into town to exchange them, I should have just listened to my gut instinct and insisted on the right size.

Good luck.

Bagsundermyeyestoday · 17/01/2023 10:07

I'm sure it'll be fine as long as you don't want a refund. Also go back to the person who served you if you can. Be clear that you only got it on their advice of they try and make a fuss, but I doubt they will. Good luck and don't stress! Flowers

To add to the confusion, the latest protocol used with USB C is known as 'thunderbolt', to sit alongside the proprietary Apple connection.

Very very frightening.

This made me laugh last night when I couldn't sleep!

Good luck, OP. I'd have thought someone like Tesco will be obliging returns.

It will be neither! They're up to MagSafe 3 now Grin

Yes, my 2022 MacBook Air has Magsafe 3 and USB 4 😲

She’s entitled to a refund! The product was mis-sold.

M+S have always been shit at bra measuring.

GCWorkNightmare · 17/01/2023 10:48

But those are actually sister sizes so not much difference in structure.

ThePants999 · 17/01/2023 10:51

I have to despair at the people warning that you must stick to the Genuine Official Approved Apple cables and that you'll burn your house down if you use a generic product.

It's a bloody wire. It's a couple of metal strings wrapped in plastic. Just what sort of secret sauce do you think Apple have that they're the only ones capable of competently manufacturing such a basic product? The only thing they do better than the companies selling £5 cables is the marketing that makes you think you need to pay their prices.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 17/01/2023 10:58

I agree, Pants - just because there are some highly dubious options, as there is with anything in life, doesn't mean that all alternatives to the heavily branded and premium priced 'proper' ones are dangerous.

It's a bit like saying that, because one particular food van serves dangerously undercooked sausages - that are probably made of trotters and sawdust anyway - you can't trust Asda's own-brand ones and must only ever consider buying Walls or Richmond.

BunchHarman · 17/01/2023 09:24

iPhone 12s come with a USB-C (to go into the plug) to Lightning charger (to go into the phone).

This thread has been irksome.

Hasn't it!! I don't understand why people who have iphones are still insisting the OP has the right lead because they use a USB-C (which they may do except it has a lightning end for the phone and C for the plug)

Not just this the apple lightning chargers and wires have been proven to be worse than the equivalent USB-c wires

stresser · 17/01/2023 14:46

just catching up on all the replies since last night!

thanks everyone for the help: I took it back to Tesco this morning and there was no hassle whatsoever about changing it over. The person just said straight away that it was the wrong one and swapped it over. Ive not got a usb c to lightening cable. I also got a partial refund as the correct charger was only £19 although that’s for the 1meter one not the 2meter, so I’ll need to get an extension cable which isn’t too much of a hassle anyway.

thanks again for all the help, I was stressing about nothing it seems!

I have an iPhone 13 and it's lightning to usb b

SchoolTripDrama · 17/01/2023 15:24

@Diffuserqueen I have an iPhone 13 and it's certainly not usb c!

Weird how? The Lightning end goes in the phone. The USB-C end goes in the charging brick. A USB-A to Lightning cable would also work. @TokyoSushi is mistaken - the end of the cable that goes in their iPhone 13 is most definitely Lightning.
