Mine is set that it comes on if it drops below 13.

How much do you think it actually costs?

I know I’m paying a lot for gas siting the times i am in so I’m guessing a lot more to keep it on longer?

DuesToTheDirt · 16/01/2023 21:57

Off completely. That's what duvets are for.

strumpert · 16/01/2023 21:57

My heating is never on overnight.

sianiboo · 16/01/2023 21:57

20, sometimes 19. If I have it lower than that my boy indoor cat will wake me up at 3am because he's cold.

1hyuny · 16/01/2023 21:59

GreenLeavesRustling · 16/01/2023 21:01

Off
on at 6.30 if below 16

It's not off if it's set to 16 😆 its on set with a fairly low temp. Ours is the same, 16 overnight then 19 at 6.30 til 9am then 17 during the day then 19 again come 4pm til 10pm.

DidyouNO · 16/01/2023 22:01

18oC overnight and 20oC in the day. If it drops lower at night it would cost a fortune to heat it up in the daytime. We live in very rural Scotland in a large 6 bed sandstone house that retains no heat whatsoever and is always freezing Confused

jolenethea · 16/01/2023 22:01

18 overnight

Fairyliz · 16/01/2023 22:03

I didn’t actually know people had their heating in overnight until I joined MN.
I was a child in the 60’s and grew up in a house without heating as did everyone I know. So one way or another we all managed without overnight heat.
Lots of blankets and a hot water bottle got us through cold nights.

KickHimInTheCrotch · 16/01/2023 22:03

I never have mine on overnight. If I sleep anywhere too hot it makes me ill.

randomsabreuse · 16/01/2023 22:04

On frost until 6.30 am, then 16 degrees from then.

It's technically always on frost because a burst pipe would be more expensive than the heating bill...

Don't generally need the thermostat (hallway) to be able 17 to be generally warm everywhere, the hallway is noticeably cooler than the kitchen and most of the bedrooms.

My office radiator isn't working, so I don't use the house heating during the day... I have a little oil filled radiator until it annoys me too much, then put my massive cheap hooded blanket on!

For me, l use about 30-70p of gas overnight/from when the thermostat is turned down to 18 after being at 21 throughout the day, and before it goes back up again in the morning (depending on how cold it is outside).
If I turn it off overnight and then maintain 21 in the daytime I actually use more gas.

ladyofshertonabbas · 16/01/2023 22:08

Off.

@StellaGibson2022

Get a kings size blanket (you can get thermal fluffy velvet ones for £15) ans put it over your duvet , if you've a double or single it'll hang down the sides

You can put another blanket underneath on top of your quilt too. Wears PJs Those extra layers trap warm air being hates by your body under the quilt. It becomes so toasty warm that you'll sleep like a (sleepy) baby!

You forgot the hat , scarf and gloves 😂

BigButtons · 16/01/2023 22:09

Set to come on of temp dips below 10 but this has never happened. 16 during the day. Can’t stand any heating at night it keeps me awake.
my used to have heat at night. If I stayed there I could never sleep and felt desiccated come the morning.

How much do you think it actually costs?
A lot, it cost just under £300 in December to have it on 3-4 hours a day with the stat set to 18 and off overnight.

emmathedilemma · 16/01/2023 22:10

14 overnight (and it often comes on when it’s really cold like today)
20 for 2hrs morning and evening
16 during the day but if I’m wfh I often have to turn it up

nannyl · 16/01/2023 22:11

Mine is set to 14

at the moment it comes on roughyl every 90 mins - 2 hours to keep the house at 14.

If i let it drop lower it takes hours and hours to warm up.

I have it set for 17 from 0600-0730 (today it only made it up to 16.4) and 17 from 1900-2100..... its normally just hitting 17 by 2100.... then it falls fast, and flicks on and off keeping the house at 14

romany4 · 16/01/2023 22:11

Heating is off overnight
we have a 16 tog duvet though so are lovely and toasty

NewBootsAndRanty · 16/01/2023 22:13

Crikey @QuietYou !
Mine was 18/21° 24/7 constantly throughout December for £200 on the standard price cap (I am in a 1 bed flat though).

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/01/2023 22:13

19 at night, 20 during the day.

We have an air source heat pump and it seems to be most efficient if it's kept fairly steady. Our night rate is also very cheap so it doesn't seem worth letting it drop at night when it's cheap only to have to bring it up in the morning when it costs more

FabFitFifties · 16/01/2023 22:13

18.5

TheHopefulMum · 16/01/2023 22:16

Ours is set to 16, however the thermostat is in our open plan living area which is always colder than the rest of the house. Ideally I'd not have it on at all overnight but it does kick in at least once most nights just to keep downstairs at a minimum of 16, which is think is the bare minimum temperature I'd expect the kids to be sat in first thing in the morning.

Logicalreasoning · 16/01/2023 22:16

our is set if it comes below 12, usually it’s 10/11 but as everyone is home tomorrow morning I set it for 12.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 16/01/2023 22:18

15 overnight, it rarely comes on.

Set to come up to 18 at 5am, DH gets up at 5.45 and the rest of us at 6.30.

Those who routinely have the heating set to come on at 8am, do you have young kids who sleep in or do you wfh? Aren’t you about to start leaving for school / work if you’ve not already?
