Mine is set that it comes on if it drops below 13.

What's yours set at?

As cold as a Yeti's arsehole.

BooksAndHooks · 16/01/2023 22:20

It’s off at night, never had it on at night. Timer turns it off at 9.30 and back on at 6.30. But we’ve got it on 14 so it hasn’t really been on at all.

ChildminderMum · 16/01/2023 22:22

16 at night 18 in the day.

NoBiscuitsLeftInMyTin · 16/01/2023 22:24

I was sleeping recently in a bed with an electric blanket but the ambient temperature around the building was -2.5 degrees C. This isn’t me complaining but just a fact.

JellyfishandShells · 16/01/2023 22:26

No heating overnight, comes on at 7am and off at 10.30pm, set to 18C at the main thermostat with varying levels on the thermostatic valves throughout, so actually only fires up for short periods during the day. It’s a warm, well insulated Victorian terrace and the temperature stays quite warm even when there’s no heating.

I share a bed with the human equivalent of a radiator, though, who hates being over heated but generously glows over in my direction. We’ve still got a summer duvet on that was a bit questionable in the pre Xmas cold snap, but the deep mattress topper helps.

BakedTattie · 16/01/2023 22:27

I sleep outside. In the snow. In the Scottish highlands.

BakedTattie · 16/01/2023 22:28

Nah, not really. It’s -4 outside (highlands) I’ve got the heating to come on at 18.

because I don’t want to freeze.

With a bag of ice cubes for a pillow, I assume?

twoandcooplease · 16/01/2023 22:33

17 so turns on at 16.5 but it goes on 3-4am to keep the house warm and whenever I'm up during the night I put the boost on for an hour

It will go to 20 when on

prettyrainbows · 16/01/2023 22:38

Ooh I do love a good heating thread!

ArrrMeHearties · 16/01/2023 22:39

I used to leave it at 19 overnight same as during the day but when dh and I saw we had used 64 in the first 2wks of January alone its been turned down to 12 at night.

TenoringBehind · 16/01/2023 22:41

Mine is set at 13.5 tonight. I’ve actually just moved it down from the normal overnight temp of 14, otherwise it will be come on and be on all night.

our gas bill from the cold snap a few weeks ago was shockingly high, and I can’t risk that again. I’d rather have a bit of heat in the evenings when we’re awake.

StoneofDestiny · 16/01/2023 22:44

Off at night. House is never that cold.

TokyoSushi · 16/01/2023 22:49

We have Hive and it goes on the frost setting which I think is 7 degrees from 9:30pm to 6:30am. We have a 10 tog duvet and are always too hot at night!

NameInUseAlreadyAgain · 16/01/2023 22:50

12

BodyShapeWoes · 16/01/2023 22:53

we are all electric heating so never unless it’s dropping below zero

it’s dropping to -4 tonight so I have turned on the night storage heater in the kitchen this costs silly money but the kitchen is the coldest room in the house..

we have stupid oil filled thing on the wall upstairs so I’ve set them all to come on at 18 at 5.30 for the kids, dh and I hate to be too warm at night so never have it on.

we all have electric blankets so can use those if it’s really cold

house temp at night sits around 10-14 degrees.

I have invested in some wall mounted heaters just have not unpacked them yet

NannyGythaOgg · 16/01/2023 23:01

No heating at all in bedroom. Currently usually between 8 and 10 at night. Lounge kicks in if it drops below 16 over night, 17 during the day - I override for an hour if/when I feel cold. Modern house so all very well insulated. Upstairs may be cold but it isn't damp

watcherintherye · 16/01/2023 23:05

We don’t have it on overnight. I think we’d be overheated. Goes off at 11 or when we go to bed, and we turn the thermostat down to zero. First one up turns thermostat up, so it comes on. We have hot water bottles and are never cold in bed!

Krakenes · 16/01/2023 23:07

It’s a bit confusing I think as some have a thermostat that just kicks in when it gets to below a certain temp, and some don’t switch their heating on at all. We now have a nest so it’s on ‘eco’ at night which is 9 degrees, so will never kick in. We’re end terrace in London so if our house ever gets that cold it’s probably the end of the world and heating will be the last of our worries!

Teapleasebobb · 16/01/2023 23:07

Mine is set to 15, we all have 13.5 tog duvets and lots of layers so maybe I should knock it down to 13 as can't really afford for it come on any more than it already does (4.5 hours per day in total, maybe more at weekends when we're all in)

nrrf · 16/01/2023 23:17

The heating clicks on if it drops below 16. Only because we have a baby and dress her in correct layers for a room that temperature.

Before having a baby it would be off all night.

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 16/01/2023 23:22

Always off overnight.

Since I saw how much the Dec bill was I have decided to keep the heating completely off (previously on timer for 1hr in morning and 3hrs in evening). I have an oil filled radiator that I use in the living room which is very effective - it's certainly cheaper than heating the whole house.

Just checked the thermostat in the hall - it's 15 atm

I hate being cold - will possibly have to put the heating on briefly this week as the temp has really dropped.

Thon · 16/01/2023 23:25

Off overnight from 9pm until 7am

Bananallamarama · 16/01/2023 23:29

Off overnight and I sleep with the windows slightly open, even in winter!

I have a big thick winter duvet so I prefer a colder room. DD is the opposite and sleeps in a gigantic hoodie, with a winter duvet and electric blanket… and she keeps her windows closed. I don’t understand how she doesn’t melt!

Whatwhatwhatnow · 16/01/2023 23:46

9 degrees, it never comes on.

Hate heating overnight. Gives me a headache.
