Putting here for traffic.

what do you drive as a family car?
What do you really love/not love about it and why?

Im looking for a new family car and just not sure what to get. Budget is not fixed massively although it won’t be newer than about 2018.

I had a Nissan qashqai plus two when my kids were young. Handy if they wanted to invited friends out with us. Now they’re older I’ve got a mini countryman

Whatthediddlyfeck · 15/01/2023 08:20

C class Mercedes saloon…feels a bit like Driving Miss Daisy but it’s soooo lovely!
love that it’s auto and everything about it is smooth, nothing clunky at all, taking bad with it being a saloon after 35 years of the convenience of hatchbacks, but there’s only been 1 occasion in 2.5 years where it’s been an actual issue.
Ive had it 2.5 years and will probably have it another 4-5.
would I have another? Probably not as I’m getting to the stage in life where a higher up car would make life easier

CrackersCheeseAndWinePlease · 15/01/2023 08:33

I drive a Ford fiesta, I love it!

Jimboscott0115 · 15/01/2023 08:37

Citroen C5 Aircross. It's boring ish but by far th most comfortable SUV I test drove and has loads of room. Great value for money I think too, though with my oldest taking her test soon and getting a car, I'll likely be on the hunt for something more fun over the next 6-12 months (was eyeing up a Mustang but concerned it screams mid life crisis!).

UsherBobble · 15/01/2023 08:39

Volvo XC60 It's the most comfortable car I have ever sat in or driven. Would highly recommend.

merrymelodies · 15/01/2023 08:40

Volvo S60. I loves them!Grin

monicagellerbing · 15/01/2023 08:41

Qashqai, it's my dream car and I've waited years to get one I'm totally in love with it

ltscoldonthesidelines · 15/01/2023 08:48

Volvo V60, not huge but we seem to manage.

KendrickLamaze · 15/01/2023 08:48

Ford Mondeo. I laugh my little head off when I see another one as they are all driven by much older men and I am a wee spring chicken in comparison. I've also only seen one woman driving one ever. I'm not sure what possessed me to get something so boring but it does everything I need it to. It's practical, nippy, comfortable and loves a tip run or family holiday. It's not yet needed a repair but when it does it should be cheaper for parts.

If I had the money, or rather could justify the additional cost, I would have got a c or e class estate or an arteon/Tiguan.

wintertime9 · 15/01/2023 08:49

I've got a fiesta but my partner has a Land Rover discovery it's soooo comfy and lots of room for a family car

wintertime9 · 15/01/2023 08:49

He also had a Volvo xc60 and I loved that as mentioned above

Slimjimtobe · 15/01/2023 08:50

Skoda (I’ve a small car too)
second one we’ve had

Gwdihooooo · 15/01/2023 08:50

Citroen berlingo…. When the kids were small you could get 3 carseats in the back.

Now they’re older we can get 4 bikes on the roof and all the camping kit in the boot.

KendrickLamaze · 15/01/2023 08:51

I say ever, I mean in the year I have had mine. It seems the newer model is only for old men. Particularly in these here parts.

RidingMyBike · 15/01/2023 08:53

Fiesta!

Amazing family car. Cheap to run, easy to park - you can fit it into little spaces in car parks. Reliable and low maintenance costs.

User4873628 · 15/01/2023 08:56

We have a Landrover Discovery for towing a caravan. It is comfy, I love the heated seats. But it's massive and I don't like driving it if I don't have to.

We've also got an electric Renault Zoe and it's brilliant. I'd always choose to drive it. But there's not a massive amount of space in the back for 3. Fine for two though

DustyOwl · 15/01/2023 09:01

Long wheel based Ford Transit Custom and a Honda Jazz. Either massive or teeny tiny.

Favouritefruits · 15/01/2023 09:01

Ford Kuga Vingnale, it’s a hybrid but we don’t charge it as it’s more expensive than petrol.

Idrinklotsofcoffee · 15/01/2023 09:03

Same and I love it.....best car I've ever owned in 45 years of driving!

SlaveToTheVibe · 15/01/2023 09:07

BMW x3

about to take some doors to the tip in it - fits loads in the boot 🙌

AliTheMinx · 15/01/2023 09:08

A Honda Civic. Looks quite sporty and is super reliable and never goes wrong. Has some really cool features. I love the heated seats!

poppym12 · 15/01/2023 09:12

Mini cooper s.

askmenothing · 15/01/2023 09:12

Ford focus, I test drove others and had my heart set on a golf but honestly, I love it!! It's massive, easy, fun to drive. Cheap as chips!

BareBelliedSneetch · 15/01/2023 09:15

MG5. So easy to drive. Really, really love it.
